These are things that anyone who knows anything about Africa and Kenya would have no problem articulating. You can rest assured, these answers were carefully crafted and put together, word by word, and rehearsed well in advance (no one, not even actors and footballers nowadays, gives an interview 'blind', without knowing the questions in advance - let alone the president of a country giving an 'interview' to a major news organisation.) You can also rest assured that these replies have been formulated in precisely such a way so as to be equivocal and open to interpretation and/or backtracking (if things change down the line). If you take the time and effort to read between the lines a little, it's really easy to see who he's trying to please, what he's trying to achieve and who he doesn't want to upset. Let's just say this is a balancing act on a very tight rope indeed.

No intelligent president would go into an interview with no control over the content, and Ruto has shown he is an intelligent man. And, I dont think Ruto has forgotten anything, he recognizes Kenya's position has risen well beyond what you see. Kenya is in a good position to start making better deals on the global market. The roles have reversed, and Europe needs Africas influence. Ruto has positioned Kenya into a good place, upholding international laws and rules, and that favors Kenya going into the future.
