The happy ending we are all looking for:
Violet’s reflection returned home with a smile, treading in her delicate shoes on the cold ceramic tile.
On her way to her room, waking strong with a pound, she spotted the mirror where Violet sat with a saddening frown.
Her reflection stopped and gave Violet a prominent stare, the two were odd, an unlikely pair.
Violet looked up at her reflection’s hard eyes, evidently shook, Violet tried apologizing for her unkind words and looks.
Her reflection smiled and said with a bow, this all was a way to get your mind out of that fowl.
I will replace you with myself, her reflection gave a hard glance, if you accept me and get out of that horrible trance.
Violet agreed and the two were switched, their lives were restored and Violet’s faith was un flinched.
She could be pretty and If her faith were to fall, she would turn to the picture on the Ill- fated wall.

This left me wondering about Violet's mom tbh. It was mentioned how she was "living vicariously" through her daughter, so maybe that's why she became so insecure? I mean if you assume that her mirror self is exactly like her, maybe that's what she used to be like before her mother's words got the better of her.

This is genius. It makes you realize that the reflection in the mirror that you see everyday and judge ruthlessly is also a person. Would you judge someone you love, say, a friend, like you judged yourself? The reflection in the mirror isn't your enemy, and the reflection (you) does not deserve such rude, mean behaviour.
This just puts everything a different, better perspective, that's why it's genius.

Young girls throughout history deserve so much justice for existing. The era Violet is in seems to be the mid to late 1800's, where the expectations for appearances and impressions were overwhelmingly important for girls. Girls were placed on this pedestal that they had to stay on, and what this did to their self-esteem, well, I'm certain that girls of the modern day still relate.

When sum1 judges a person, it reflects their truths, their realities and not of d other person! So, seeing ourselves through d eyes n opinions of others z absurd! It took me 32 yrs to realise ds ultimate truth...nd must admit, it has been liberating. ♥️♥️

Ok, so you're telling me that if I care what people think of me, my reflection will seek to be free, trading places with me and I'll be stuck in the mirror watching my reflection live a better life, that I could have lived if I had not cared about the prejudices of society?
    That's deep.
Also, Violet's hands in the mirror at the minute 7:49 (how sad)

I love this poem the most, the way you say how she let her self judgment over through herself, it has it kind words on. Not letting yourself hate one's self by the way you look, but it enbers it. ^^

  • @phae_c

this is really well written, has an impactfull message, beautiful art style, and the fact that the ending isnt a happy one makes it somehow more powerful/really brings the danger of too harsh self judgement across.
i have just one criticism. that being, i So often with stories similar to this one, am immediately a little put off from the beginning, because the character that we are supposed to relate to, looks just.. really beautiful ?
i understand that way too often teenagers judge specific parts of themselves much too harshly, comparing themselves to an unrealistic ideal, while in actuality really looking just fine. and nobody else besides them sees those flaws.
but look there are also people who do, just, have a really damn big nose. or a facial shape that really is far out of proportion.
i think there are far too many "lessons" for people about minor "flaws" that nobody besides them can see.
which this is a story about. we can tell, by how the mother and her crush think she looks stunning, and the viewer can see it too. we just Know that she herself sees something different in her reflection than everyone else.
you could have written the same story, with a character that actually is ugly.
people are gonna say "but beauty is subjective, nobody is ugly", ok then lets rephrase it as, the character could have a really big nose (not the basic "disney princess" pointy nose), a face thats very obviously longer than every other charcter's, or have Actually fat thighs.
that way people with those characteristics will relate - and people who Dont have those characteristics but are just seeing them exaggerated in their own reflection, will also relate.
and the story really could be the same. someone with Actually out of the norm facial proportions, can still look beautiful to their crush at that ball. they wont look beautiful to everyone but the moral should be that Someone who they love will find them beautiful.
and most importantly, they shouldnt waste their life over self judgement just as much as someone who looks perfectly average but upholds themselves to an ideal.
long comment, nobody is reading this, but thats just my opinion. why not design the charcter in a story like this, in a way that actually makes them look relatable

so glad that the message was not about "everyone is beautiful love yourself uwu" but more like "you'll never be perfect but it doesn't affect your life as much as you believe". this fact makes the idea far less overused than other similar content.

Loved the music, loved the narrators voice, tone and cadence, loved the color pallet, figures, and loved the story which indeed had a happy ending showing how self discovery to challenge your fears regardless of how powerful they may seem; are actually far less then what joy of discovery waits each and everyone of us because we exist.

This hits personally for me. Throughout middle school I was so insecure. I hated the way I looked, the way I talked, the way I even laughed. I felt like the only reasons I had friends was bc they felt sorry for me. Whenever I would go out in public I always felt like people would stare and talk about me. I felt so miserable. But instead of trying to work in self confidence I just put on the I don't care attitude. Makes fun of myself so others don't kind of thing. I felt terrible.
But finally through talking with other people and working through some things I've started to become more self confident. And honestly it feels freeing. Like all my life I've been carrying a weight and now its like it's gone. Of course there are still things that I struggle with. I still wear baggy clothing as an attempt to hide my body. I still wonder if all my friends secretly hate me. But I think things are starting to get better. Instead of hating myself, I'm starting to enjoy who I am as a person. It gives you a whole new perspective on really everything.

A lot of people are taking it literally, but it looks a lot like disassociation to me. When she looks into the mirror, she puts on a mask of confidence and goes to the dance, but she sees it all from an outside perspective as she has disassociated from the entire situation as well as herself.

This is why I always cover the Mirrors and refuse to look at my Reflection

  • @writeon2593
    @writeon2593 Před 2 lety +3

I'll be honest, I am irrationally scared of mirrors. When I was little, I watched a movie, more like a collection of short films, and in it, a girl's reflection escaped from a haunted mirror. The double proceeded to ruin her original's friendships and the story ended with thousands of reflections banding together to pull the original into the mirror realm where she was trapped in forever. I'm no longer afraid my reflection will trap me in her world and ruin my life, but I cannot stand mirror horror and the mirror now triggers depressed and anxious thoughts brought on by bullying. In the movie, the girl loved her reflection and thought of herself as better, which is why she was punished by being put on the other side of the glass. I never thought that self-hatred could lead to the same thing.
