Watch as Edwin plays the tortured soul of Guy De Vere as his soul is tortured by the lost of his one true love, Lenore. The poem is just one big metaphor. The Raven is his insanity, and he wants it to leave him because he doesn't want to go back and remember the lost of his love Lenore. Edgar Allan Poe actually was married, but his wife died of an early age. He went insane after that because he could not bare to think his wife wasn't alive.

Carlson Thacker Thank you! I appreciate that! Although I am happy with my work on this animation, I feel like all poetry, its open to your own interruption. All explanations are open from what you take away from the original piece. I just put imagery to what I took away from it. Im glad you enjoyed it.

Funny, I never heard that Lenore poem before, but put in this context, it could easily be considered a direct prequel to The Raven. Interesting idea.

There are three stanzas missing. Why the decision to cut the poem?

    • @DirArronQuinn
      @DirArronQuinn  Před 9 lety +1

It was a creative decision that went back in forth in my mind. I didnt want to cut out any portion of the poem but during editing, I felt that the piece would be much stronger if that portion was cut from the film. Im really happy with that decision as it gives a supernatural atmosphere with the narration of those 3 stanzas. Good catch by the way.

Hey Aarron, I just wanted to share this with you. My ten year old watched one of your lovely videos but she had nightmares about the image of your personal icon. Yes, the picture of the boy with one eye bigger than the other. Don't ask me why. Who knows how kids see things? But I thought I'd give you this feedback, since you obviously do such beautiful work and I wouldn't want people to avoid your art for such a silly thing. I remember once when she was three years old, there was an animated character on an insurance commercial that made her scream and be very frightened. I didn't get that, and I don't get this either. Nothing like that has happened since then, so I thought I'd just share that with you.

i know the raven is a great poem but what is this animation
the narrator in the first part looks so much younger than lenore
that part also had a bit of autotune
that section with the fricking kissing his wife in heaven and the raven turning a lot bigger
everything was going on in this animation

Thank you so much for your comment and feedback. This animation was done 5 years ago and I’m first to admit that my skills were a bit dodgy back then. Everyone did their best as much as they could to come together and create this beautiful piece of art!! It was a blast and a challenge to make! Don’t forget to subscribe!!

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door...
So no, the Raven is still there. Poetry is relative, you might like to believe that the Raven left, but in truth Poe left the Raven.

When it comes to poetry with language like this i never seem to understand what's going on. Anyone care to explain the story?

Edgar is reading at his campfire, and a bird comes to tell him he will never be happy again, he will never find love.
At the end, it says that Edgar's soul will stay in the "shadows" and the Raven will always be there to tell him he will never get better.

Its open to your interruption. Poetry like Poe's is like a distorted map and its up to you to find you way. Never be ashamed that you dont know whats going on. Thats part of the fun.

For some reason when I first read this poem as a child I had a distinct impression that the narrator murdered Lenore.

+Dorus Lynn Poe was overtly troubled and was always tested by his prevailing vexed eternity. to shorten the explanation I think your assumption is not so distant as to be crazy.

I personally don't like it. You took the black out of it and added color. Some things are meant to stay dark. Though I surely appreciate the intention.
