    The ringer switch is definitely broken on the Mutron. It should add a large amount of fuzz/upper octave, extremely noticeable. If it's just the switch that's broken, replace it!!! You are missing out on a whole realm of sound without it.
    Keep in mind, the ringer will bypass the tone/mix controls when activated.

    Great job reviewing these pedals and explaining them. My number 1 octave pedal is Octron 3 from FoxRox. The octave below doesn't color my Fender Jazz tone very much. Sounds more like I'm in sync with another player using my bass, just one octave down. The octave above has a natural distortion and I prefer to use that setting for distortion whenever I can.

    I love the OC-2. It can be modded with a LPF. I put the filter pot in place of the oct2 pot. Its tracking can be improved by recapping it, but it still won't track well if you have scrappy technique. My other favourite vintage octaver is the Korg OCT-1 / Yamaha OC-01. (Same pedal). It has a really throaty tone and tracks very well. The yamaha version is getting collectable, but doesn't have a standard DC jack unfortunately.

    I have a vintage (Japanese) OC-2 and a modern Octave Divider clone (not the Behringer, although thát one is pretty amazing!!), and they are hugely different.
    The Boss gets me a great synthy sound - I normally play a bit higher up the neck to prevent mud, and it works really well with my fretless too!
    My "Mutron"-clone is very useful on bass (especially if the ringer switch works, yours clearly doesn't...) but to me it works best on guitar.
    Actually that's where I first heard it:
    Wolf Hoffmann from the German metal-legends Accept used it on one of their earliest records, and thát was absolutely mind-blowing....
    So I had to have one as well 😎👍🇩🇪🤣

  • @petougao
    @petougao Před 3 lety

    The envelope on OC-2 is just as bass-synth would be configured. Thusly, most applicable when feeding a fuzz. My preference for clean octaves is octamizer, mxr bod and OC-3/5.

  • @KozmykJ
    @KozmykJ Před 3 lety

    Arion MOC-1 that's my old octave pedal.
    Oh and the Octaver in my old Ashdown Electric Blue combo, that''s a softer more subtle effect.
    Nearly forgot - the Boss SE-70 half rack multi has a nice Octaver in it too.
    Well I guess it would have to wouldn't it, being a Boss ... 🙄
    I'm very interested in the OC-5 now though.

    I've been trying to find a great tracking Octave pedal for my LIVE rig, as I had an SWR 750x head with an Octaver built into it. Wrote a great song with it, but the head needs ton's of work, and I don't wanna lug around the head for shows just for that song! I use a different head now so... It sounds very, very, similar to the Ampeg Sub-Blaster. Anyone know of a newer pedal that sounds like that and can track on a B string that's dropped down to A? That's what I'm looking for! Cause the built in effect in the SWR750x can....so why can't these stand alone pedals do it?

    • @markperry7655
      @markperry7655 Před 3 lety

      I’ve found octavers great for exploring the upper register of the bass while still having a nice fat sound, they encourage you to play more clean than you might otherwise, so they can track the note properly. People use analog octave pedals to get a synth sound. You might use one in place of a low B or detuning to get lower notes (although that doesn’t work as well as a lower or detuned string). Great for simply filling out more space.
