Lonesome Dove was fantastic and Duvall's screen presence was always through the roof. He did a small part in a film called, I believe it was "The Road" a post apocalyptic flick with, I think it was Viggo Mortensen in the lead. The film was a big yawn, until Duvall turned up in one of the scenes. For that scene, the film was magical. Then it went back to a snooze fest again after. One of the greats.

Very few people knew of Robert Duvall when "To Kill A Mockingbird" came out in 1962. That was his first feature film. Though he had acted on Broadway & been seen in some television roles.

I think his best role was in lonesome Dove but he was really good in The Judge with Robert Downey Jr. He totally carried that movie. His small parts in Slingblade and To Kill a Mockingbird are outstanding. He conveys so much with little or no dialogue.
