If any dev is reading this - "If it's not broken, don't fix it!"
Your looting system in WZ is what made so many casual people fall in love with the game and play it over the pandemic, because it was easy to pick up and intuitive. You saw *everything* you carried on your HUD and had max ammo in the background, without having to play tetris in cubes to fit stuff in or out. Standing in front of boxes for seconds on end makes zero sense in a COD style battle royale.
If you're looking to win over the Tarkov/Apex/PUBG crowd you may well have something going, but you're going to be losing your base demographic in droves.
    Simplify.

    - The AI really needs to get out immediately. This affects gameplay so much. You betray your position like this because you are forced to fight with AI. If I want to fight AI, I will play the campaign.
    - The gameplay is slowed down too much in my opinion. No slide cancel is fine, but they have also slowed down the sprinting when adding plates. In addition, looting has been slowed down tremendously. Looting has also become a lot more confusing. Especially if you want to loot a body. Everything is mixed up on the ground.
    - They did not implement the last additions of wz1 in WZ2. Like with every player behind the name The streak the person has, how many plates in possession and if the person has a gas mask etc.
    - No loadouts (but weapon for a lot of money at buystations), I think is a bad change. This just made WZ unique as a BR game.
    - Too much advantage 2 plates vs 3 plates. If you can't find a satchel and thus put on 3 plates, you have max 2. This gives too much advantage to the one with satchel.
    - I saw almost only groundloot with iron sights and hefty recoil. But this will be different in the full game I think.
    - All the quality of life things from WZ 1, are not in WZ2. Deployable balloons, gas mask animation, deployable buystation etc.
    - The map is a lot better than Caldera, it seems.

    • @honzabalak3462
      @honzabalak3462 Před 2 lety +8

@@nicholas.e5158 It's supposed to be WZ first and foremost. There are many hardcore slow BR titles in the style of PUBG. You can go play those if that's your style. You can remain within CoD as well and go play some Blackout.
The problem is that there's no other BR which does what WZ1 did. Ultra fast paced no backpack BR with loadouts. At the same time WZ1 is suffering terribly because of the integrations so returning there sucks.
We hoped to see a fresh start within the formula of WZ, not a complete redesign to a different (less original) game.

I think you're absolutely on point with this. The only logical explanation is a development team that either internally or from the outside felt the pressure to forcefully innovate the core gameplay/mechanics. It makes absolutely no sense to basically go backwards into a traditional BR if WZ proved how you can combine BR with the classic CoD gameplay. Everyone was happy. BR fans, casuals and even (most) hardcode CoD MP fans had at least a year of fun.
I'm honestly trying to wrap my head around the thought process here. Maybe they wanted to keep the UI/UX the same between DMZ and Warzone 2.0, and that is why we now have this absolutely horrendous looting system. Maybe the movement mechanics how slowed down to a crawl so fit DMZ. Maybe the AI is added to fit DMZ. But it completely deflates the entire experience. Can you imagine just constantly running into AI opponents taking away all the tension constantly? Shoot bot. Shoot bot. Shoot bot.. oh wait is that a person? Whatever.
The graphics look great. The map looks amazing. The gunplay.. the sound... the potential.. it's all there. But every single gameplay loop/mechanic is just bizarre. They better wake up quickly and make some drastic changes.

    • @surrealmeme8344
      @surrealmeme8344 Před 2 lety +13

I think these issues arises because they are either trying to “innovate” on what warzone already had going when it was good, or they are trying to build a new warzone from the ground up. Either way they seem to be ignoring a lot of the lessons they should’ve learned from the first game, both from its successes, and it’s shortcomings.

I prefer Resurgence version , and The Champion Last Stand mode where you start with your own loadout. Obviously I like Plunder cuz I start with my own loadout. I have never understood the fascination of liking the idea of starting from scratch per say even tho that is incorrect because depending when you land you can have inferior gun w/ no additional plates. And I honestly don’t really understand why they did this. Warzone managed to carve out a niche for itself in the BR space: A simple and intuitive looting system, mechanics that were easy enough to learn but more difficult to master, and most importantly; no stop fast paced action. This was warzone’s thing, just like how building is what made fortnite unique.

I think Warzone 1 is currently in a very good place, apart from the Caldera map itself. To make so many changes seems to be a rash and reactionary decision. I also don't understand why they want to make it "more like a traditional BR" because if that's what people wanted from Warzone they would be playing something else, loadouts are what made Warzone unique and to throw that away in pursuit or "BR purity" is very short-sighted as I think you will alienate a lot of the casual players. @billiecompton4193 Před 2 lety +110

I was very unimpressed with what I saw for sure. It was like a totally different game, which I get, it's suppose to be a "New" game, but it sure isn't anything like the WZ that we know now.
When WZ2 was 1st announced, I was super pumped, because it was my belief that the problems with wz1 was that it was never intended to become this massive game. It was just another game mode for MW 2019. Then it became mega popular. The next Call of Duty games came out, and Cold War and Vanguard guns, operators, vehicles etc. get integrated and the wheels started coming off.
Again, because the game wasn't originally designed to incorporate all these new things into it, so we all suffered through MANY growing pains with this game.
When announced, I thought, "Sweet! WZ2 gives them a chance to design from the ground up knowing all these things ahead of time."
What I was hoping to see was the same root game we know now, but built better, and ready for the future Call of Duty titles to plug in new guns, operators, Map POI's etc.. all that without breaking the game like what we've seen happening in our current WZ.
I was looking forward to improvements to FOV slider for console, strong anti cheat, less bugs and glitches, and all the other things that we've all wanted or talked about for two years, just built into the core game from the ground up.
I'll still give this game a try when it comes out, but If it launches anywhere close to what I've seen so far, I won't play be playing it much. At least I'll have WZ1 and hopefully Fortunes keep still around to play LOL. Just my 2...errr...10 cents.

I agree with this! I think the beautiful thing about Warzone has been the simplicity. Simple looting system with automatic pick-ups, and an absence of toggle screens when opening up looting chests. Call of Duty warzone is Call of Duty Battle Royale. Faster paced, run and shoot. I don't like that their system is moving towards the type of system I stay away from in both Apex and PubG. Literally cannot play those games because of the slow pace, due to complex toggle-screen based looting. Also, was there like an uproar to remove loadouts from Warzone or something? They changed everything that made warzone unique, the ability to decide if you want to play fast or slow and choosing the playstyle based on the loadouts you set up. deciding with the team which perks to run based on zone and game plan. doesn't make sense that they added all the quality of life changes people wanted and now they revert to this?

I think you put everything perfectly, and it’s actually insane to me how the devs didn’t consider any of your logical, common sense concerns when spending hours upon hours developing whatever… this is.
What made Warzone so unique was how intuitive and smooth it is. You don’t even have to think about looting, buy stations are straight forward and make sense, and the overall game mechanics are fair. For instance, every player having 3 plates creates a EVEN playing field; only putting a player at an disadvantage if they have less plates than another. But with one absolutely unnecessary change, you’ve created an environment where the difference in health has to do with a pickup item that isn’t as easily accessible as picking up a plate. It’s these “small” decisions that have a huge butterfly effect and change the entire fundamentals and approach to the game.
What people wanted was this: New Map that resembled a Verdansk atmosphere and design, and the new MW2 engine with all of the cool new features that they had been adding more recently. Instead their egos got in the way and they produced the worst possible scenario for a new Warzone game.

That feeling of I want to play when I get home from work. A lot of that magic seems to be missing here or at least locked behind new cumbersome mechanics.
And also, to summarise everyone moved to rebirth…and this experience couldn’t be any further from that experience. All of the middle ground (5th circle loadout, redeploy tokens, portable buys, balloons have seemingly been removed and I think the cumbersome and layered looting system will be the deal breaker when considered in the context of EVERYTHING else that has stripped Warzone of its identity.

Don’t mind the movement change whether if slide cancels stays in the game when people find it or if they patch it it really doesn’t matter to me. But to me my main problems are the mess of menus and UIs they added to make things tough to navigate like looting buy stations etc it’s all too unnecessary. Warzone currently is so good cause it’s menus both on the buy station and picking up and dropping things so easy to learn and so quick aswell that all these menus are just a hindrance and slows the gameplay down. Just have loot drop on the floor when the crate is open and simplify the menu on the buy station. For me the 2v2 concept is fine for me could take it or leave it but the AI in the gulag is a weird decision and just completely defeats the purpose of the gulag imo. For me the AI spread out around the map in random locations is also really dumb especially since you could just wander into a ai filled location without warning till your shot at. I feel like if they wanna keep it they should bring back loadout and incorporate them into the system. Make it so in order to get loadout you either buy them at the store but have them be decently priced or get a loadout marker from one of the strongholds you discover. Have there be 10-20 different possible spawns for the strongholds but only 5-10 strongholds are active per game and not have them be marked on the map, or else that’s gonna create some horrible 3rd party situations, but rather them be discovered as you play which means if you run into an AI it means your at a stronghold once you clear it out a room opens up with a stash that when opened comes with self revives satchels and a loadout marker for you and your team to get loadout. And for people that can’t get loadout incorporate the titanium trials idea for buying a loadout gun and have it get cheaper after each zone so the regain isnt bad. It was a huge plus in titanium trials imo. Other then that incorporate all the QOL improvements from warzone rn and I would be happy

Ammo, plates, and money should automatically be picked up and put in your inventory when you walk over it and you no longer need to worry about where those things are stored. Also, we love picking up the perks and other quality of life items off the ground. Please don't get rid of that. The map is amazing. I love the three zones. Spectating has become a huge thing for streamers recently and now I hate the shoulder cam. That needs to be fixed. My biggest gripe is how the slow game mechanics are, they are not conducive with the BR game mode, a game mode that is time restricted (ie the closing circle)!. The looting is more suited to a survival game, the circle split is complete meta and takes the game away from being played out organically, and slide cancelling no longer being “a thing” means the journey across the map is going to feel a lot longer and less satisfying. The multiplayer is on point though, I think it does well and Warzone ends up being changed to its core till it does not resemble what we currently see🫡

I think they're trying a little too hard to reinvent the wheel and fix what wasn't broken. I understand the removal of loadouts, and that might be a good move, but that is definitely one of the big things that set WZ apart, so it feels risky. The other thing was just the total ease of looting; I don't think this system is as good, and it'll allow for much jankier gunfights that just feel inconsistent cause some people will be carrying 4 guns and others 30 plates. Also the 3 plate thing: I think three should be standard, as it should be consistent in terms of expected ttk. Speaking of ttk, I think the extra 100 or so hp of current warzone is much better for a BR, especially if they want to keep the current changes that put WZ2 more in line with classic BRs. The fast ttk was more justifiable when you had more complete control of your weapons, perks, situation, etc, and is way too fast in the more generalized BR world (and frankly is better in WZ too), so I really hope they take another look at that aspect.

The key thing that made Warzone such a success was its simplicity vs other BRs. Looting at the touch of a button, not having clunky inventory systems was a breath of fresh air, and completely changed the BR experience, allowing the player more time to experience the actual game. WZ2 looks to be undoing all of that, by over complicating things that they previously simplified with huge success. Why fix what isnt broken??? Also, multiplayer feels awful in its current state for the casual player

Hi Jgod! I noticed in the cod event, that when players were using the "buy station" in warzone, guns cost different amounts of money. As you are buying your own customized guns, this might mean that guns and perhaps also attachments have different costs attached to them when customing your weapons, and these costs then could be adjusted by the popularity of guns/attachments(perhaps in a weekly update). This would be an elegant way to balance weapons making meta guns to cost more and give more variety for which gun to use: If you want to use that current best meta gun, you need to have money for it. Or perhaps you choose to settle for a slightly off-meta weapon so that you have enough money for a good secondary and/or an UAV.

  • @SingleT90246

I agree with most of those changes. Had the very similar thoughts while watching CoD NEXT. TTK seemed way too fast, especially with limited plates. Limited UAVs makes sense if they aren't allowing any perks at all; that being said, if they are going to leave all the AI in the map, they shouldn't appear on UAV. AI in a BR I was not a fan of, unless at specified locations; they did it well in caldera with the trucks and bunkers IMO. The looting system seemed terrible and clunky like you said. One thing I don't think I've heard anyone talk about was being able to slide on a mounting surface like we had in Caldera, I think they could still incorporate that but maybe slow the sliding speed down a bit. Just some things I wanted to touch on from what I was able to see during the event.

No perks is okay, but severely restricting access to custom weapons is going to shoot them in the foot. The system as it currently stands makes it seem like custom weapons are going to be so hard to get and makes regaining almost pointless, that there might be no reason to get MW2 if Warzone 2 is one's interest, which defeats the point of connecting the F2P product and premium product.

There were some features that were introduced in caldera already thinking on WZ2.0 and I'm 100% sure that it will on WZ2.0 too.
    1. Pink Gun Boxes. This was something that for caldera is OK, but for WZ2.0 will be a huge feature since the loadout now is different.
    2. Box UAV. Again for caldera that is also something good but for WZ2.0 this will be much more important, also to help find the pink boxes.
    3. Mask animation auto/manual switch. This was something that was asked since the first person died because of the animation, so it will 100 be on WZ2.0.
    4. Perks as loot. Since we don't have a way now to get the perks, I'm sure that this will be in WZ2.0, maybe not at the beginning as was said during CODNEXT but maybe they are trying to balance it first, but for sure this will be on WZ2.0.
    5. Gulag and redeploy tokens. Was a great addition and it will definitely be on WZ2.0.
NOW, there are some quality of life changes for caldera that were really needed there, that may not be on WZ2.0 but would be really nice to have there.
    1. Portable balloons and also fixed balloons. For caldera this was huge, but for the new WZ2.0 this also would be good, but not sure if it will be there since the are trying to low the pace for the game.
    2. Portable buy. This was also something that was needed in caldera, and with the new loadout system this will also be huge on WZ2.0. But again not sure if it will be available for the same reason as before.
Saying that, I believe that WZ2.0 has a huge potential, there are some adjustments that they need to do like:
    1. Plates and Ammo should have a special slot, and it needs to be automatic pick up. Also, the 3 plates only be available if you have a vest, not sure if it was a great change.
    2. Gulag should have to have now better guns or at least the winner should gain a free weapon buy, that would help on the regain so you are not so penalize for going to the gulag.
    3. Since the WZ2.0 played was an alpha release I assume that the visuals for buys and loot visibility will not be the way they show, so my hope is that it gets more smooth in the way that you don't get stuck in the bay station too long.
    4. I saw that on the buy they had an option for 'Upgrade Weapon' not sure on how that will work but would be really nice if that is like a place for you to buy attachments for your guns, that would be great and would also allow you to have guns with more than 5 attachments.
    5. Bots. Not needed other than at the strongholds. Nobody liked it so I assume and hope that this will be removed.

Agree with most of the things.
Imagine that upgrade weapon will allow you to buy just 1-2 attachments for existing gun ( 100% sure you can't go beyond 5 attachments ) this would allow to pickup green-purple gun from the ground and if you can't afford your loadout gun at least you can upgrade existing one to a decent level.
Wouldn't be a bad thing if loadouts would just drop around zone 5 so that it's still possible to win the game after regain. Or they would discount weapons after each circle.

Personally I think it looks amazing. Not invalidating anyone’s opinion but I much prefer the look and feel of this than caldera. It reminds me of base verdansk, Y1. Which I remember having a slower feel, more tactical. So up for a fresh start and a some welcome changes, I do think this will be a lot more competitive and fair. There’s a few questionable changes but I personally wanted a ‘new’ and updated game, not just a reskin caldera / VD and from what I see so far they’ve done that

The thing that seems counterintuitive about the new “loadout” system is this: Gunsmith 2.0 has been explicitly designed to make leveling guns and acquiring attachments more streamlined. The devs stated it was so that people could start playing with their custom guns faster.
But on the flip side, you have them buffing floor loot and making the process of acquiring your custom guns super tedious. So you’re getting mixed messages.
Gunsmith 2.0: We made it streamlined because we want you to use your custom guns!
WZ2 itself: We made floor loot way more viable, so you can compete without having to get custom guns.
    Gunsmith 2.0: Use custom guns!
WZ2: You don’t need custom guns.

That’s how they are able to monetize the game by getting the player to either buy MW2 or buy the weapon blueprints. It’s very frustrating I must say but they’re going to milk it as much as they can :/

Warzone is the only br that ground loot didn't matter and it showed in the player count. It made the looting stale. Just get 10k and your set.

In my opinion, I think they are going to annihilate the core player base and bring in a totally different type. For me I loved being able to get my loadout and hop right into gun fights. I would like to see how skins for guns work . Having to pay an excessive amount for a ranked gun of mine , makes me less interested. Makes me less interested in even trying to rank up guns. I’m less enticed to want to purchase camos/ skins from the store.Makes me less interested in camo grinding , and less interested in multiplayer. It feels like everything everyone loved about warzone was thrown right out the window. Everything that made warzone unique and work well for all player types , seems completely gone. The looting system is bad , it doesn’t seem very controller friendly. I don’t understand why they felt the need to change it . The fact they have bots seems unreal to me. Feels very fortnite like in that sense. The game seems super slow , the colors seem really dull. I don’t see myself playing warzone as much as I do now , especially if a lot of this stuff isn’t fixed. Seems very unfinished for being worked on for 2 years. I’ll give it a go, but for my play style I don’t foresee myself playing it long term.
