An idea to stop the “leakage” from happening:
Put a coat of clear on the back first and cure it before you do the white layer that way if the clear seeps through it 1) won’t show and 2) will plug all the holes so when you put the white layer on it keeps it from seeping through.
Thanks so much for sharing and I hope this idea helps if you try this again because I absolutely love this project ❤
Bet you could put butterflies in that kind of thing on those bloopers
Julie mistakes are how we learn. And we learned together with this didn't we. You are always so helpful with all of us. Please don't be so disappointed. No one is perfect all of the time. Heaven knows I make enough errors for all of us! 😂 I love what you were doing here. Just try it again! 💗🙏 We're with you all of the way. 💖🤗
So much fun to watch your creative thinking and process, as always 👏🏼😊
Julie, that was just amazing. I always learn from your experimenting and am very grateful for how generous you are in sharing. The idea is there and is wonderful.
Love the placemat. Great color choice. I liked the idea of putting a background on it. I just would have loved to see it with a black background so the colors would pop more. Just my 1 cent
Love the suncatcher Julie, don't be disappointed as things happen & we learn from them. Great idea for placemats so I might give them a try. Thank you for sharing as always, you inspire us all to do bigger & better things with our resin craft.
Except for the leaking it’s turned out pretty. There was a big learning curve on this. Mistakes are how we all learn. Thank you for sharing.😊
Just love how real you are it is so brilliant Thank you
We called those plastic doileys when I was young!
Awesome Video Pouring Your Heart Out🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
You are so honest and absolutely adorable! Love the experimentation! My friend told me about this channel so glad I decided to give a look see. Very excited to che ck out more of your videos 🎉
That looks so cool even though the leakage I thought it come out awesome thank you Julie
Julie I want to say Thank you !! You give us so much in all the different projects & experiments that you do. I love this idea & it came out beautiful! I know you can come up with a great idea to fix it & make it look like that’s the way it’s supposed to be.
Great idea! and we all learn from watching you, so thank you for doing all your videos ♥
That is beautiful, shame about the leakage, but thats how you learn isnt it. ❤ You could try making a pattern with a glue gun and fill it in with UV resin, i think I'm going to try that once it gets warmer. My mum left me with bags and box's of moulds when she passed away. I have so many ideas, and you're helping me with ideas. I have a few rolls of that contact paper, ive been wondering what to do with it. Thank you so much, bye for now, and to poch who wanted to say bye too 😂❤🎉
True artist are those who explore! Like you do :-) Only tourists walk the paths others make ahead of time.
Yes, we call it contact paper here in the U.S. I think the white leaked through because UV resin shrinks as it dries so where it adhered to the placemat, it left some really minor gaps but enough obviously for the white seep through. Thanks for experimenting!
Hi Julie, here in the UK we call it sticky back plastic. Let's Resin do a resin tape specifically designed for making pendants with only a frame. Might be worth buying some.
Just waiting for my bunny mould to arrive and I'm so looking forward to making them!
I’m so sorry it did not turn out for you. You put in so much work into it. It is beautiful. No backing needed. Thank you for sharing ❤
Chica, how about coloring in those white spots? I think it would work and would look beautiful. Just color it the color that the white is on.
It's so beautiful.
Hey only the brilliant try different techniques, that's why there called artist's. Your a brilliant Artist 🎨. The ideas 💡 👏 you come up with and are willing to try makes you the Artist you are today. Keep creating and trying different thing's, you and your creativity are magnificent!!!! ❤🎉😊
Contact paper would work great and it comes in rolls. It’s used for shelving covering. That’s a great idea Marilyn. Love the plexiglass idea. I have the UV colored resin and I’m not impressed with the colors. They seem too light and not dense enough. I do have a 100 ml bottle of green which is a bit brighter that I’ve had for awhile that I like a lot. The green is more lime green. Just a thought.
That was an excellent experiment! Gave me many ideas!
I recently used shelf liner (semi-translucent white, no bumps or patterns, just flat silicone like material) and also "crazy carpets" (from Dollarama in Canada, may also be showing my age, lol). Haven't tried the UV resin on those yet but the regular resin came off like a breeze!
The leaked area just need some faux flowers or leaves attached to make it a little more 3 dimensional 😉
Hey Julie....since the placemat is a flower motif, what about making some resin ladybugs, butterflies, caterpillars, etc. and the glue them down to cover up the white spots. Would look very cute. 😊 Or...knowing how much you love stickers, maybe get some bug/insect stickers to cover the white areas. Still pretty in any case. Thank you for being brave enough to show the "fails," as well.
Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful idea! I might try a roll of clear resin tape. You could place some cut pieces on the back. That’s probably better than contact paper. The UV light should reach the back of the resin too since it’s clear tape.
I am so sorry you were disappointed! It is beautiful, if you disregard the white spots. It is an awesome idea, so please try it again!
We call it contact paper here where I live in Michigan too. Julie, just a couple of ideas or suggestions in case you try this again. You could use plexiglass that's quite thin , so it's clear . That's the first idea. The second one is here in the U.S. in any hardware store you can buy small rolls of heavy duty plastic that's clear also that would work so it would cure easier with the UV resin. You can find it in the painters supplies. And if you want to make sure it's a little tacky so the UV resin doesn't bleed, use tacky spray so it stays in place until you get it all cured. Hope those ideas help. ❤😊
I live in Michigan also😊
Where in Michigan do you live?
@@carolfitzpatrick7207 Upper Peninsula of Michigan ( Gwinn)
I lived in gwinn for a couple months and then I realized it was too cold and back to Florida I came. But it was absolutely beautiful there.
@@pamelaboye3989 It definitely gets cold here. Gwinn is in the snowbelt so we get the higher snow levels then Marquette. All that snow disappeared already. 😊
Julie, cool experiment! I am sorry about the leakage!
Oh, man... I yelled "NO!" The second I saw the white. 🫣 I knew it would leak. 😢 If you really wanted that white you needed to do a clear flood coat first, to cover any holes, then the white flood coat. 😆
That said, there are ways to save it (silver leaf over it or just glueing other pieces on top of the white patches) or you could cut it up and add the nicer bits to another project. 🤷🏻♀️
Live and learn. At least this lesson could save someone else from making the same mistake. 😅👍
EDIT: Yes, I remember the first video, BTW. 😁
Glad you keep it real! still pretty
Great idea! Can't wait to see the sun catcher idea. Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
Thank you for showing us that no one is perfect. All your projects always so pretty. Thank you for sharing. Sorry the white seeped through.
Love the idea; beautiful colours as well. Maybe it is possible to gently sand down the white bits? Or cover them up with butterflies or something similar? Thank you for sharing 🙂
Oh no the white 😢 but I would have done the exact same thing.. my idea to fix it would be to pull up those white areas let it pull up that silver and go back in with a chrome marker and re-outline the areas that pulled up. But we all learn as we go and it's great to see a fail from someone who almost always has perfect pours! Now I don't feel so alone!
I remember that video with the blue resin..haha
Me too!!
Great idea! What about putting foil over the white and making it look like purposeful. Kind of an antique look, maybe. ❤❤❤
I also remember the first video. Thank you for showing us so we can learn❤❤❤
I remember the 1st video. Thank you for sharing this video so we can learn with you. I love the colors ❤ I can't wait to see the next attempt on this Julie ❤
Beautiful idea. You could colour plain UV resin with mica powder or artist chalk to make the colours brighter and maybe easier to see and maybe a glitter back coat? Thank you Julie you always keep us entertained and empowered to try new things 😊
Thank you for experimenting and teaching all of us.
I’m sorry the white resin came through. These idea is fabulous and it will be extremely beautiful if you try it again. ❤ thanks for sharing ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Julie my Crystal live edge coaster mold arrived in the UK very quickly It is absolutely perfect. I'm so excited to use it !!❤ xx
Great idea, it would've been really pretty. I don't quite understand how the white seeped through, but such is life, lesson learned. Of course, I'd love to see you try again. Glad you shared the video and didn't give up on it. xoxoxooxoxoxox
Beautiful idea. I was thinking though, instead of the white backing, use clear and it wouldn't matter if it seaps through. Or ... Use the same colored UV resins on the back side to both strengthen and deepen the colors. Would have been a beautiful stained glass(resin) piece. I hope you can find another of those mats, would love seeing an attempt 2.❤❤❤ You absolutely inspire ideas! .... One of which.... I bought a food net, like you have one. Trying to cover tall and short pieces.... Thin or wide, is rather hard to cover with just left over plastic containers tops. Because then the resting sticks to the plastic cover giving the actual item patterns from the plastic. I NEVER thought I'd ever buy a food net. Not even for food lol don't know why just has always felt... Frivolous? But now I have a legit reason to have and use one! All because of you and your ideas.
Also.... I have a 4d frog mold like one of yours.... I'm curious how doing a 3D bloom in it would look, so that's my next project.❤
It's sticky back plastic here in the uk! You could use this as a sun catcher! 😊 I just got to the point you speak about putting it in front of the window! Great minds.....😊 maybe if you did a clear coat 1st then the white backing!!
Great idea - very creative!
0:58 I DO remember that video. In fact it’s in my favorites folder so that I can make it someday. Very cool 😎
In the UK we call that stuff 'sticky back plastic'!!
Although it would be a time-consuming endeavor, maybe coloring both sides with the colored resin would solve both the light, light color, and also provide a barrier IF you choose to clear coat for a stronger piecebof art. Just a thought.
The reds, pinks, peach. All look a like.
I think if you had used contact paper the resin would have pulled off with the paper. Thanks for sharing your idea
One suggestion for you our dear Julie. I'd invest in a bone folder if you don't have one. Because everything you don't want to leak and/or things you don't want bubbles around like stickers and etc. It comes in very handy. You can use it to press hard or light depending on what you need. They come in different sizes and shapes. I've been meaning to recommend this for awhile. Lol. But then again I've found waiting for my round tuit is just not a good idea. 😂
This was pretty. I'm sorry it didn't come out the way you expected it. Maybe when you do the sun catcher back with clear just to give it stability and if it does seep through it won't be as noticeable?
Maybe sand it and repaint the silver? Very pretty.
It still came out lovely julie
Rolls of contact paper should work Julie
the way i wouldve prevented leakage is doing a clear layer first after the colors before doing white this way its less noticable if it seeps through
I bought a red one at Christmas & used it under a Christmas decoration.
I bet you could add butterflies or other types of items that would hide those mistakes
Some also call it Shelf Lining... But it Is Contact paper, I'm in Mo..😊
That is a placemat. They are to decorate the table with your place setting 🍽 on top of that. Centerpiece would be great. Anything hot will melt the plastic as you saw the heat gun softened the plastic. It’s a great idea though. Life is a learning experience.😊❤
I really liked this idea, you always come up with great ways to use resin and experiment! I was wondering if you could use this pretty mat to make a mold? I imagined it but I'm only a resin watcher on your channel and since you make them, I just thought, is it possible being that it's shallow? Thank you for your creativity and positivity, love your channel
Would’ve looked pretty as a Suncatcher. Even if you backed it in clear. I still think it turned out nice.
Maybe try black for back round. So the colors pop.
Really cool idea. We all learned from your experiment! I wonder if it was done with bezel tape on the back if it would have turned out better?
Amazon has plastic doilies. Maybe put clear coat on back before putting colors on front?
I was thinking. You know what you could do if you want to sort of salvage it? You could maybe cut them into circles (the portions with no leakage) and sand them / make them into coasters? It would be some work but just an idea.
Great idea actually. There are other ways to do it.
I wondered if the plastic sheet you put out in the sun was intact enough to use for embossing?
What about spraying it with a spray adhesive on the black silicone liner you are using😊
I don't know if anyone is come up with it yet but why not use that silicone sheeting that you can buy to protect works areas? We all know that resin doesn't stick to silicone and it's perfectly smooth it'd be a great thing to use
Just an idea is to get a large silicone mat. I got a huge one off of Amazon that covers my whole table, Nothing sticks to it.
LOL, I commented before I saw you pull out the silicone mat 🙂
I really your idea. Could you go over white resin in a silver pen??? could work ???
Could you use the tape everyone uses to make jewelry?
It's such a shame. It would have been beautiful. If it had worked, it would have been a lovely place mat for the centre of the table.
It would look gorgeous as a sun catcher, too.
If it was on a white platform, you would see the colors better.
There are always lessons to be learned. The sun catcher was pretty to begin with. Can’t wait to see the next one. I appreciate that you show how things can happen and what not to do!
How do I know if I need to mix less of 1 then the other? Please help! My resin for some brands leave some spots soft on my molds, regardless of how long I let it cure. I usually buy 1 to 1 ratio but I feel like it is off somehow.
❤❤❤
Maybe do the back first, then you can see the colors better also?!
We call it contact paper too.
Maybe glad press and seal
Contact paper here in Oklahoma
I wonder if you want to try and use a dremal and sand as much of that white off as you can, then repaint with your sliver pen,
You know I think you can save it by sanding and using silver pen as I was thinking then just be creative by changing the style using more white, maybe to look like snow or just parts are supposed to be white , kinda two tone effect.
Amo seu trabalho sou do Brasil amei o molde d coração pode dar o endereço onde comprar???❤
12:40 when you lift it won't it just fall through and the design be on the silicone mat? 🤔because there is no solid coverage??
Maybe clear coat the front before the backing is done
What about just using the middle flower instead then add the other pedals
Where did you get the vinyl mat?
😊
Could have used clear packing tape.
Maybe a clear backing would have worked?
I just can’t understand how you got the dots to join up when they went in all separate. I was expecting when you took the black mat off, there would be a load of separate dots. I must have missed something.
You can back it with clear
Julie the only way I worked this idea out is to make its own silicone mould tray each design. I made a 1.2m diameter mandala making a round mould, I put a thin layer of silicone in it waited for it to setup 95% and layed my mandala on top and put the tiniest bit of pressure for the silicone to bulge thru the mandala holes minutely just enough to seal the edges. Hense I learnt if it's too early it sinks n you have to start again too late n it's too hard n will repel the mould. n waste the silicone. I then put my coloured resin where I wanted, it took days and days to complete. I then removed everything from the silicone and the next day did a flood coat on the back. It took me a yr of different tapes contact type things that wretched silver aluminium tape🤬💩 until I forked out a fortune to do it this way. Was it worth it no would I do it again ..only if I cld charge in the 1000',s it's not worth the mental anguish honestly. As a sun catcher it won't last very long only a matter of a month if that as the sun fades it extremely fast not a good idea sorry. Hope this info helps n Goodluck if you persue it. Xx
😊👍🏻
