    As an alumni, I’ll throw in a few suggestions that I think are key for anyone. Stuff I wish I paid a lot more attention to back in my earliest college days.
    1. Start EVERY project immediately or as early as possible.
    A good rule of thumb is to get started within the first 24 hours. The easiest way is to read through the given assignment, understand the requirements, write-out your ideas for the project. Words, phrases, descriptions, whatever. Even if you don’t use all of it, you’ve at least got the ball rolling and the creative juices flowing in your head. From there, develop doodles, thumbnails, sketches, and keep building the project up bit by bit. There are several benefits to this approach.
    - you can go through several iterations of a piece of work, and switch gears relatively easily if you don’t like how it turns out, which brings you to…
    - whether you get it right the first time, or go through a few tries, you tend to produce your best quality work thus way.
    - you can finish a project long before it’s due, which frees up your time in a big way, for you to focus on anything else you want.
    - you can kill procrastination, and end the need for last minute all-nighters. Doing projects the night before it’s due will guarantee lousy artwork, and faster burn-out.
    - so if you like having your weekends free, and not having to think about schoolwork while you’re having fun… start your projects early.
    2. Learn about money and business while you’re at SCAD or any college. Take one or more courses in;
    - business management / starting your own business
    - money management
    - investment basics
    - accounting
    I’d suggest taking such a course at another (state) school, or take a course online (free or paid).
    Better yet, if your Mom, Dad, uncle, cousin or family friend is a business professional that can teach you these essential skills, ask them to teach you. Just make sure you learn this stuff (and maybe even try it out) before you graduate.
    “What if I start something and fail?”
    What’s more valuable, starting a business in college and failing, or, not trying at all, and leaving yourself at the mercy of an erratic job-market after you graduate?
    There are no guarantees, but, I prefer having more options.
    3. Network. Always, always network. Make friends, and engage people for the long-term. Obviously, some people will not be a good fit, but there are more than a handful of peers that can be helpful in the future.
    All the best.

    Some other stuff as another Sophomore at SCAD, some supplies are 100% better to buy at Blick over Ex Libris, as Ex Libris sells their supplies at the retail value, Blick will offer discounts especially as a student! Secondly, classes are VERY competitive to get into, I always plan ahead for classes I am 100% sure I know I want to take as well as at least 2-4 backup classes that I need for my major. that way when you don't get into your top classes for the quarter, you have an idea of what else to look for. Don't be surprised if you don't make it into any of your major classes for the first year (or second depending on your life), not many do ^_^" Aside from that though, the classes and curriculum is pretty professional and I've had a lot of learning and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be committed to the programs

    i’m a junior in high school, so this is the time i have to think about colleges, and scad is one i’m interested in. one: for the variety of classes, and two: the cushion it provides for graduates. i’m still unsure with what i want as a future career but visual arts has been the ONLY thing i’m good at. i struggle a lot in a traditional class setting and i’m not a fast worker, so my grades in every class besides art are pretty bad (for now). of course college is bound to be challenging but i don’t want to get myself into something that’s out of my league. i do want a challenge but i don’t want to be pushed to the point that i no longer enjoy art, or that it becomes a burden.

    Also if you are an artist bring what you have because supplies can be very pricey (around $200 USD) for EACH studio class and you are usually taking 2 of them every 2 1/2 months. If you have paints, paint brushes, pencils, mircons, kneaded eraser, regular eraser, charcoal etc bring it unless you can afford to blow a bag. Blick art store is drastically cheaper here than SCAD's art supply store Ex Libris and most of the supplies I listed you will 1000% use every studio class and for homework especially your first and second quarter.

    I really really wanna go to this college because I was raised in Savannah, we had to move away but I still miss Savannah, all my friends are/was there. Most of my family is still there. And I always wanted to move back to Savannah since I was a kid. When I went to the SCAD college tour, it felt like home. This place was calling my name. I... I can't explain it but I NEED to be here. I got the effort, the dedication, and the skill. At the end of the day, no matter what college we go to, no matter how hard the classes are, I really feel like SCAD is gonna provide me all the help I need, I will be using that bewell metal health center as a second home because I come from a stressful life and home and it's just non-stop stress, pain, failure and hurt. I gotta get away from my home and join this college because I truly believe they're gonna help me. Thank you so much for providing me and other inspiring people this helpful info.

      I am completely in the same boat when it comes to Atlanta. I completely resonated with your comment as a kid who had to pick up and move so abruptly. My heart is still in Atlanta. Every time we go back to Atlanta, I just feel it calling my name, everything is home to me. I'm so excited about going to SCAD because it means I'll get to be home again and no matter what, I'm never giving up on Atlanta. That's my home. The Bee Well center is also gonna come in handy for me as a kid whose parents constantly tried to doubt my decision-making about any and everything I do. I feel like a shell of who I used to be and it's not fair. I need to get back in touch with film and my home. Atlanta is the one for me and I'm so grateful to SCAD. Very very grateful.

    okay but also the hive cafe is mid but there are other dining halls but you will have to take the bus or drive, if you can bring your car to college BRING IT. The only people who didn't bring it is because they live too far away or don't want to pay to get the car shipped. Having a car here is such a luxury. If you are a straight female the guys here are slim pickings too but not awful but like I said it's slim pickings. Scad is also a dry campus meaning no alc allowed or nicotine within 50 feet of any scad building regardless of you're age! Scad is dope tho, those r just all the cons which aren't big in the big picture.

    Hey! First off, thank you for the video :) this is super dope. Secondly, I heard that at SCAD if you have 2+ absences in a class, it’s an insta fail for that class TT would you say this is a big issue to consider or kind of a minor thing

    • @AnnaKatherineYT
      @AnnaKatherineYT  Před rokem

      Thanks so much for watching! It is actually your 5th absence in class that gives you the automatic fail. I think it’s a minor thing because if you miss 5 classes that’s 25% of the class so you’d be missing a lot anyway

    Congrats on finishing your first year! I just graduated from SCAD as ITGM. I was a Monty kid. I pretty much dormed the entire time at Monty, apart from home for covid. Convenient because my major classes are at Monty as well. I recommend to network as much as you can while at SCAD those connections will help in the long run. Especially when it comes for starting senior capstones and even more job hunting (though I don't know if capstones are a thing outside ITGM and Animation, I'd imagine so). I always say dining halls are hit or miss. So looking out on the app for dining gives you a heads up as to what's being served that time. And the order up app is a good go to if nothing good is being served. Carnival is a must go to place. I always recommend investing in equipment for the long run. For me. I bought my own wacom pen for the Monty cintiqs and huion for my computer for late night modelling in the dorm. If you see yourself using programs that you'll use in the future buy them for yourself. I bought Zbrush. If what you use is perpetual go with that it'll end up being cheaper than doing so monthly. ITGM had our capstone games showcased at an event with SCAD called Entelechy, you have 20wks to create a game. My team made a multiplayer FFA with rubber ducks. QuackTown SmackDown. Hopefully coming to steam. But try not to get burned out that's a thing that happens at SCAD lol take some breaks, continue to do great things. Enjoy and continue to grow your next 3 years :)

    Thank you so much for these videos! My daughter is an incoming Freshman and will be living in Honey. I have an odd question that I reached out to housing about but they were unsure and unable to check on it. I'm hoping you can shed light on it for us. We noticed that while most rooms in the Hive buildings have a single window between the two beds, some rooms have a larger double window that goes behind one of the beds. These are the rooms on the end of the building near the stairwell. Housing said those are either the high numbers like 315-16 or low numbers like 301-302. Any clue if those double window rooms are the high or low numbers? Her room assignment is a low number and we are trying to plan for the window placement and the size of curtain.

      Hi! You can look up what classes you have to take for your major by searching “scad photography curriculum”! Most people have to take drawing, color theory, design, etc. And professors know that not everyone is good at drawing so they will typically grade on how much you improve throughout the class rather than skill. It depends if what Professor you get, but most of them are very understanding.
