She did. She knew for once in her life she'd get a shot regardless of her looks and she knew she was going to blow the roof off. It's a touching moment.

I believe, if I remember correctly, but Susan was taking care of her sick mother before she passed on. Her mom encouraged her to try going professional in the first place.

Amanda has zero class, chased a married man, used him to advance herself, dumped him and moved on.
The camera actually barely showed her before she started to sing, so I don't think we really know what her facial expressions were.

Apparently, there weren't many opera fans in the audience. Susan Boyle doesn't look much different from some of the great female opera stars. Dame Joan Sutherland comes to mind, for one. I'll bet nobody would have laughed at Dame Joan's appearance.

Later on while singing with Elaine Page she looked, or should I say presents herself so much better! Its almost like they wanted to make her look stupid... all for the show. That makes me sad too. And the fact that there was no family or friends waiting for her backstage when she was crying and emotional. I love her and love to watch her no matter what she looks like, she's so kind and a great singer!

"Stunning" is such a small word. She is the Queen of voice.
This is my 11th time watching this performance in February 2020 since its inception, and I, as a professor, am still using it as a "teaching material" as a classic of teaching my students the true tester of the human nature--both Susan and the judges are definitely "honest" to each other, and it is so pure and authentic that it did and does touch everyone involved then and now.
