    Thank you for a good video. The new gen DDC front fork is loads more racer friendly than the previous, and you can easily change the shim package if you want to.

    • @RhabdoRacing
      @RhabdoRacing Před 5 lety +1

      I dont know who told him that. The old system was an all in one unit (both mechanical and electronic valve) starting with minimum damping and a DDC controller increasing damping if needed. The new one is a parallell system with separate electronic and mechanical valve working the other way around, starting with maximum damping and the DDC controler is able to reduce damping in 10ms

    Did you had to modify the street setting after testriding? Or was the setup perfect as shown in the video? Would be nice to have that starting point :)

    The handbook states the rider weight assumptions for the S1000RR M-Sport on pages 109, 110, 111, 112, 113. This is 85kg. it doesn't say if this is the wringing wet, or fully kitted up weight, but I'm assuming it is the latter. I'm 87kg fully kitted up and a quick check on tyre wear suggests that the road mode is just about spot on for fast road riding - smooth wear from crown to edge with no tears, or 'ruffles'.
    I was watching the vid coz I suspect the fork internals are rather crude, and certainly the standard spring on the rear is on the cheap side - compare and contrast with a decent after-market spring and you'll see what I mean - and I wanted to see a strip down to either prove or disprove my suspicions. I think Dave Moss is on to something when he suggests the suspension may not last for long before it runs out of compensatory adjustment.

    Thanks for the vid. Seems like a giant miss on BMW's part to combine front rebound and compression adjustment considering this is a serious sport machine. Not as much of a big deal for road riding, but for serious track riding I consider the ability to adjust them seperately essential. At fast track pace you don't want that sort of compromise. Just seems an odd omission for a supersport. What makes it even stranger is that they have gone to the effort of fitting a hydraulic preload adjuster on the shock. This indicates a deliberate effort to engineer high adjustability into the suspension package, only they then go ahead and limit adjustability at the front. Maybe they figure serious track riders and racers will rubbish the stock internals anyway. Would be interesting to hear what Dave thinks about this.

      @optony9606 Před 3 lety

      I agree with that should be fully adjustable and being electronic I thought this would have been. I'm on a 2015 one

    Bit confused did he add preload in the end. I’d imagine at your weight you would have to to get the sag within the specified 35 mm

      @rogase68 Před 5 lety +2

      Cali Moto TV sounds like a good idea. I’ve had my M model for a few weeks now. Still running it in but the other day I had a chance to run up and down a mountain road to check the various settings. Firstly I would have to say the suspension on this bike feels very high quality and the handling is outstanding straight out of the box. The harder you push the bike the better it feels. Haven’t ridden it on the track yet but it feels like it will be awesome. I read somewhere that in the road modes the dynamic dampening range is 90% of the preset for the riding mode. It’s not disclosed anywhere what the base settings are for the riding modes rain, road, dynamic and race but I would assume that if you needed to brake really hard the dampening would compensate. I have found Dynamic mode to be a good road riding mode. Feels sporty and firm but not to harsh. I also like the reduced engine braking you get in Dynamic Mode. I also did a few runs in Pro Race Mode. I also read that in pro race mode Dynamic Dampening is reduced to 10% of the base setting. I haven’t found this information in the manual so I don’t know if it’s true. Anyway I found the base settings of 6 front and rear to very firm. It felt like my old ZX10 race bike setup. I can’t believe he set the front to 10. It must be as hard as a rock but I am a fair bit lighter than you. I’m 73kg or 160 lbs so that is a big difference. I backed off front and rear to 4 and that felt more like the road modes. Anyway finding your videos on the new bike really good. Keep up the good work.

      @rogase68 Před 5 lety

      Post script. It was Revzilla’s review by Spurgeon Dunbar which mentioned the 90% and 10% range of the Dynamic Dampening in the respective Road and Pro Race Modes.

    This is a really good video, but ABS was never factored into the equation. All the setting you guys went over are for a bike with no abs because with ABS ON it limits fork diving. You cant set up a ABS bike with out riding it.

    • @hondaracing4669
      @hondaracing4669 Před 5 lety

      @@CaliMotoTV sorry buddy I couldn't disagree more. Let me give you an example. On my 2018 GSXR1000R I went to COTA with the abs on( because i didn't have the flash tune abs delete yet) but the front forks under hard braking I was fine on the settings no bottoming out the forks. But after I removed the abs my front setting were completely maxed out and the forks were still bottoming out. I heard you say that race pro 1 was for the street but 2 and 3 were for the track. I'm just trying to help you get the bike set up better.

    What I don't get, is why would BMW put electronic suspension set up, in the hands of the owners, who probably don't have clue what to do with it?

  • @SAMFICOM
    @SAMFICOM Před 2 lety

    The best thing you can do to this motorcycle is to get WP or ohlins for it. Electronic suspension from BMW sucks and there is nothing you can do about it. Throw it away immediately.
