[Synopsis]
A female slave or woman of a private home who was paid for mourning at funerals is called a dirge singer. Dangeum is a dirge singer but her daughter Yeonsim doesn't want to be one because she would have to mourn and lament for her life. Yeonsim runs away to become a gisaeng, a female entertainer, thinking that smiling for like is better. But it's not easy as she's a daughter of a dirge singer, a low-born. Yunsu is born out of wedlock and is angry at his life as he cannot do anything because of his position. One day, Yunsu's brother, who is a true noble, dies. This was released almost 10yrs ago, and this young lady became one of the best actresses today. She’s one of my favorite Korean actresses along with Jung So-min. 😉😉😉

I respect every culture, and each has a history of trails and tribulation, even with their own people, and we all should think for ourselves as well as question the impossibility, for every question there must be an answer.

A worthwhile drama, everyone should watch to the end. There’s some good things about life that can be learned from this story, if one is keen enough to pick them up. It was good to see her finally open her emotions and shed real tears 52:09 … and although it was sad that she still couldn’t cry at her mother’s grave at the end, even after discovering the real reason her mother became a professional mourner to begin with, it’s understandable considering that her mother also couldn’t cry at her grandmother’s gravesite and that’s how she was raised. If I had written the script I would have given her more love and appreciation for her Mom all along. And I would have added a flash forward scene where she and the nobleman’s adopted son got married.
