That wry smile on Mariano Rivera's face as he rounded second is all you need to know about the greatness of both men
I come back and watch this once or twice a year. This is one of the greatest AB’s I’ve ever seen. On one leg off of Mo with 2 out in the 9th doesn’t get more clutch.
watch bonds vs gagne
Watching this live is something I'll always remember about miggy
He just like flipped his wrist and hit a low pitch 420 feet
The ball exploded off his bat. CF knew right away the ball was way over his head.
@@eduardoaranda6522 but Miggy's left leg was hurt

Pujols clears.
You smoking something good huh

Agree completely!!!
Zachary McCleese BIAEST TIGER FAN
Who was better in 2013?
I miss Mario and rod together. Hearing them brings me back to my childhood when the tigers were World Series contenders
Bryce Reeves well they hated each other
@@christopherkopke7593 I wouldn't say hated but they certainly had their differences as shown when they got into a physical altercation a year or so ago
Honestly not having them and the tigers sucking just isn’t doing it for me
Have faith, Bryce. They will be Series contenders again in about two, at the most three, years. The last four drafts have brought in three superb pitching prospects (Manning, Mize and Skubal) and, now with the additions of Greene, Torkelson, Dingler and Workman, a raft of hitters for the next generation.
Yeah Joachim noa was a squiggly guy
This is one of the greatest at bats of all time, given the pitcher, the batter, and all of the circumstances. I'm glad I got to see this live on TV. Must have been quite something to have been there in person.
Brandon I wasn't there but i was watching it live. i didn't think Miggy was going to get anything after he fouled it off his knee. Then he did it again. It was amazing, but the Yankees did win eventually, put a damper on it.
it was my first yankees game ,i was visitng new york from detroit and we chosethat game because arods first game back ...we went crazybeing tigers fans ...but then lostin extra innning
@@razorvonokham it was my first yankees game ,i was visitng new york from detroit and we chosethat game because arods first game back ...we went crazybeing tigers fans ...but then lostin extra innning
I lived in NYC at the time and was at this game. It was incredible. One of my all time favorite live sporting moments.
and then he hit another fucking 9th-inning HR two days after that, this guy's going to need a fucking library for all the shit he's done in his career
That makes no sense
+Gage Vandeventer you make no sense
+Tristan Monette your mom makes no sense
Gage Vandeventer your nan makes no sense
Tristan Monette well played
Rivera: " I got em right where I want him "
Miggy: " heeheehee "
you're an idiot
Matthew N and you're some genius?
Carey Conley no but i do know baseball fairly well seeing i've played it since i was 4. And that i also know Rivera very well even personally. He would never ever have the thought "i got em right where I want him" ever. He along with Jeter are two of the most humble and classy players thats ever played the game. They're not cocky or anything like that.
Matthew N Man, straight up get a therapist. That was sad.
☜ Sᴏᴠɪᴇᴛ Bᴇᴀʀ ☞ No it wasn't actually. Only thing thats sad is insulting someone on youtube. This matchup was one of the best you'll ever see between 2 first ballot hall of famers. And instead of enjoying that people went stupid.
That fact that Miguel Cabrera was probably less than 75% healthy the entire season, but still almost repeated as a Triple Crown winner, shows that he's the best player in the league today. The second best is Mike Trout.
clayton kershaw is the best imo
Revok Sixth and i know hes not aneveryday player but thats how goodheis the only pitcher i would consider worthy of winning an mvp
Revok Sixth you cant compare a pitcher with a batter can you?
i dont know but kershaw is on the road to becoming a legend
Revok Sixth pitcher is too hard to compare, but even with that, I give the edge to Verlander. Kershaw is the absolute shit, but he isn't as good just yet.
and most players consider an 0-2 count a disadvantage... nope not miggy. love him... such a great player and a classy guy.
Best two strike hitter in baseball.
Richard James not anymore 😔
As an Indians fan I agree %100. I hated facing him but man is he fun to watch
@@raamjames1 Victor Martinez had an unbelievable season in 2015 I believe hitting with 2 strikes like video game numbers he almost won an mvp that year too I believe as a dh which would've been incredible
Miggy went yard in Pittsburgh 2 days ago on an 0-2 count I noticed 👍🏼
He's like fuck it.. I'll just hit a homerun
EL MEJOR TURNO AL BATE QUE HE VISTO EN LA HISTORIA. PAR DE LEYENDAS LATINAS. GRANDE MIGUEL
when they had miggy and fielder back to back they were so raw, im a giants fan so lemme just say mad respect haha
@@thesenate5245 He definitely did not rake much in Detroit. Also he made us move Miggy to 3rd, which may have ended up shortening Cabrera's prime. The best thing about the Prince signing for Detroit is they were able to get out of most of that awful contract by flipping him for Kinsler (who actually was super good here).
The look on Rivera's face was priceless...
UNBELIEVABLE!
I still remember watching this in Japan, what an awesome at-bat by Miguel. Truly exceptional hitter and one of the best I've seen in my lifetime.
Man I love this Tigers team we had from 2011 to 2014, what an amazing team we had, a shame we didn't win the World Series at least one of those years, cuz each one of those years we were definitely one of the top three teams
2012?
Unfortunately the Giants were miles better.
there's great hitters and there's miguel cabrera ..he's arguably the best right handed hitter of all time, if he played at yankees stadium he would put up 50hrs every year
absolutely
That was a epic at bat. Miggy no where near 100%. Beats him on the 16 or 17th pitch. Mo just tips his hat to him. A classic clash between 2 hall of famers someday.
Ah no. Albert Pujols. Pujols is leaps and bounds above Miggy. I mean now he's not, but age and injuries have started to hit him while Miggy is younger. Not to knock Cabrera but he's just not on Albert's level.
just look at the yankees fan faces at around 5:24 as miggy is heading to the dugout...tells you how special miggy is
Phoenix Wright you must be joking, pujols better then miggy? Fuck no. There was a time when they both had the same 330 40 homers and 120+ RBI seasons but miggy has continued that while Albert is hitting low 200s. When miggy gets to 36-37 and older his power will probably drop but he will still be hitting 310+ miggy is still the best hitter in the game and top 3 best right handers of all time
Orgullo venezolano sin dudas uno de los mejores bateadores de la historia el miggy
Every time I need a dopamine release as a tigers fan I come here. Miggy is top 5 RH of all time
I was watching this live! Miggy took Rivera to school and that RARELY happened. Cabrera in his prime was by far the best player in baseball..
And on a bad leg
The best at bat I've ever seen live. I was fortunate enough to be visiting New York during this series and caught this game. Will never forget it! Go Tigs and Go Miggy
Man you are lucky. What a great at bat to witness. Miggy is awesome!
I want Jomboy to do a breakdown of this.
jacobtech7 dude he’s never been biased to the yankees
@@samparker3886 that's a joke right? He definitely has a bias which is understandable. I have a bias against the Yankees and for Detroit I mean I grew up watching the Tigers so naturally I have a bias towards my hometown team
@Idk Me I said him having a bias is understandable I never said there was anything wrong with him having a bias.
Think he'd cry?
He literally has a show called talkin yanks
I miss Jim Leyland :(
Me too :(
same
:(
Having Ausmus makes me miss Leyland......
Caiti Hemmings I don't think Ausmus is bad,but Leyland was definitely better, and I do miss him
Greatest right handed hitter the game has ever seen. Class act all the way too. I've never seen a hitter hit a ball with such authority to center, or the other way. Anybody that knows baseball knows how hard it is to really crush a ball to the opposite field and Miggy does it with ease. Its a privilege to watch him play for my Tigers.
He should have won the Triple Crown this year as well. He was on such a tear that it wasn't even funny. Then when it came out the guy who won the HR title was using performance-enhancing drugs, all I could do was shake my head smh
nothing classier than driving drunk
Joe Lyon I know right. Fucking Chis Davis has a career year using roids. Davis will never hit more than 25 ever again.
HockeyJock6476 Theres always the one stupid ass comment. OK we got athletes beating their wives, murdering people, dealing drugs, abusing kids, raping women, and you're going to bring up a fucking DUI from like 7 years ago. He is a class act he handled that like a man, hasn't been in trouble since. Never hear about Miggy doing roids. What are you a butt hurt yankee fan? Miggy is what a star athlete should act like, always has time for the fans, always smiling, never rude, and he speaks shitty English so its gotta be tough to do interviews but he does them. Theres enough ass holes on 1 NBA team to make up for anything Miggy has done go hate on them. Its too bad youre a hockey fan they usually are intelligent, but theres always an exception.
Toni Paradise he was a legit alcoholic so just because you're a tigers fan doesnt mean you have to talk about him like he's roberto clemente jesus christ. and by the way im a sox fan so no not butthurt at all especially considering the 2013 playoffs where david ortiz (a better version of cabrera) put on a clinic when the real stars shine
I still remember watching this...and lost it when the big hit happen. Both are monumental players, and lots of love and respect for Mr. Sandman. :) Enjoy retirement though Rivera, you will be missed...
You "still remember"?!? It happened a couple months ago! The way your word it makes it seem like this was 25+ years ago...lol
vitorbelfort so like people who say they still remember where they were when Big Papi grand slammed to tie up the game against the Tigers... It's sorta an expression.
@@TastingKitty Who won this game?
@@moonbeamskies3346 gardy had a game winning single in the tenth
Who won the game
Reminds me of when Kirk Gibson hit the HR in the World Series, also severely injured. Two great at bats against the best relief pitchers in the game.
True
Yea this game in august was so important
Will clearly go down as one of if not likely the best hitter of my generation...being from the D and being a Tigs fan Miguel Cabrera has spoiled many people including my self...being able to watch him play almost every day of the summer is just great and always provides a reason to watch even when games are out of hand and already decided...winning the batting triple crown in this era is just epic..underrated in the field too...he takes a alot of shit for his "lack of mobility"...but makes up for it with a solid glove and above average arm...
Trout is better
@@radish1972 As an all around ball player sure it's not even close lol....but I'd take prime Cabrera at the plate when I need a hit over trout.
I mean trouts best season in terms of ops+ is better than miggys best year
@@radish1972trout is going to play for another ten years lol, basically different eras
I remember a shot of Rivera here receiving a new ball and literally just saying "Wow". Cutter down and away, he flicks it to straight center. He's absolutely incredible. It's a shame he was hurt in the playoffs, maybe could've had an epic ALCS.
Nuestro próximo Hall de la fama! Orgullo venezolano. Gracias Miguelito!
One of the best at-bats I've ever seen, and I've been watching baseball for 40 years.
I can believe it
People forget how good Miggy was then. This was the year after his triple crown season. If it weren't for injuries, I think he would have hit .400. His average was around .380 until the injuries really started taking their toll on him, and he ended up hitting ~.350
Looking back at this and being that it's 2019 now can clearly see this was the beginning of the end of Miggy...sad but true
Tigs will be bad for the next five to 10 years
Michigan Hater agree there going to have to continue to have losing seasons to get high draft picks 😒😏
Mommy Dolly if only he used steroids like Red Sox or Yankees or had trash cans to give him the signals
only reason he has not had great seasons since 2017 is because of injuries, His body has completely fallen apart on him.......
Michigan Hater 10 years? Really dude...be rational
Uno de los Turnos que más he disfruta en mis 54 años de edad. . Este Miggy realmente es un Caballo.. 👏👍👏
I'm a Yankee fan, was at this game. Everyone was so into the whole at bat and seeing Miggy hurt himself then come back and literally hit a bomb to straight away center will be something I talk about for a long time going forward. I was just in shock. This guy is on another level with the bat than everyone else
That's our Miggy! "He only needs one leg anyway". 😂😂😂
The most amazing baseball player ever !!! And his heart belongs to the "D" !!!!
How gay
Torii Hunter is awesome hahah.
I got to meet him once and he seems like a really cool guy. Not arrogant like most players.
It's been said, that every team he has been on, he leaves a lasting impression. You can't say that about too many athletes, in a positive light, anymore.
Torri Hunter- Forever a member of TIGER NATION.
I remember not liking him because he replaced Boesch but since then I've changed my opinion on him
Kenneth P. Boesch was trash
@@aedanlewis5208 no
to fall to 0-2 on the count is BRUTAL. Even Wade Boggs would be like DAMN
This AB and Gibby's HR against Dennis Eckersley in the '88 World Series are the two best at bats in the last 35 years. Awesome.
Miguel Cabrera will go down in history as one of the best hitters in baseball. Not even power hitters, just pure hitters. He's also successfully played first and third base above average on the defense side. I have no doubt he enters the hall of fame on the first ballot without question.
Hope he can stay healthy and continue to entertain us on the baseball field not only does he play well he has so much fun doing it class act definetly 1st ballot HOF
I miss prime miggy
It makes me sad that he’s kinda wasting away in Detroit right now as Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander won World Series titles elsewhere, Miggy’s a guy who should have a 2nd World Series ring before he retires but I don’t think he’s going to get one.
@@cmurphy0707 he got one on his rookie year

respect both of them.
Miggy is the GOAT, can’t hate him
Miggy, the best hitter in the world!
miguel cabrera se proyecta como uno de los grandes bateadores de la historia. increible lo que hace el señor
Miggy is one of the best pure hitters I've seen in awhile. He's one of the few hitters who can make an inside pitch turn into home runs. This dude's gifted!
I was at this game as a Tigers fan, and when he hit that, me and the section full of tigers fans around me went absolutely INSANE. I hugged and high-fived about 30 random strangers that night and it was awesome. Miggy is the GOAT

Miggy from 2010 through 2013 was the greatest right handed hitter I’ve ever seen
It can't feel good, hitting a 90+ mph pitch off your knee cap. Yet, somehow, Tori Hunter made Cabrera laugh all the same. I'm jealous of the Minnesota Twins fans, they were lucky to have Mr. Hunter for so long. He had that reputation of being a great team member. We were just happy to have him for a couple of years.
We loved him here in Detroit. Great leader. He was always so much fun it gave him the players utmost respect. He could turn a game around by getting his team pumped or keeping their minds off of negative distractions.
@@etherdetroit1977 played really well for an old man too lol he gave his all on the field everyday. He was joking but he really did play like he was 25 or whatever he said lol torii is awesome very likable guy
Looking at this from 2019 I really appreciate what Miggy did for our league, sad to see that the only remains of triple crown miggy is on MLB a the show 19
I was just chilling and remembered this legendary moment and just had to renascence
One of the greatest at bats I’ve ever seen. One of the greatest moments for the game low key in the game overall and that’s coming from a Yankee fan
This is why he is the best in the game. Against the best closer ever, and on one leg, he still manages to kill the ball. And if you look at his feet on the HR pitch, he even stepped out instead of stepping forward, which normally for any hitter would cause them to not hit it right but he still poked it out. Best hitter in the game, coming from a Reds fan.
JP Phillips Look at a before and after of miguel and tell me that low life isn't on roids. Before you call me a butthurt yankees fan, I could care less about this, he is obviously on steroids.
Anthony DeRiso even though he has never been caught for roids....butthurt Yankee fan
Lmao mlb never tries to bust these players. Think about it, if they did, no one would watch the game, therefore mlb losing money. The reason that those other players get caught is because their lab gets busted. Then it all comes down to common sense. He is a fat man who can only swing a bat.
Anthony DeRiso yeah, we will go with what you said. You are 100% right, I stand corrected. Like you have any room to hate, with A-Roid on your team
When did I say I liked that fucker?
Greatness on both sides
I guess that’s why he wears 42 cause Jackie robin was really alfred
Miggy is truly amazing... He is something to watch.... He really is...
God, I remember that guy.😢
And I though a 2-2 count was an advantage for the pitcher.
Historic!!!! What a moment!
The ironic thing is Miggy beat Riveria hitting the ball where Riveria wanted him to hit it, just a heck of a lot further than Riveria wanted him to hit it. My other favorite Miggy at bat was against Oakland in the ALCS in a tight game. The Oakland starter had gotten Miggy twice on the same pitch, once to strike out and next a weak fly ball. Third time up a man is on and he hits the same spot and Miggy goes opposite field with it for a double and go ahead RBI. Miggy knew that pitch was coming and was waiting on it.
funny how baseball works.
almost retired him on a foulout.
ball gets misplayed - continuation of the at bat, thus
leads to home run and blownsave.
Tex would of had that.....
World Champion his bat fizzled out a little towards the end but he never disappointed with the glove
Anyone would have had that
este es una muestra de lo batallador que es cabrera, a pesar que estaba lesionado o mejor dicho con molestia, es decir, no estaba al 100%.
It's insane we never won a ring. Detroit had such a great team. Could be one of the best to never win a championship
That 2013 starting rotation was insanity, just wish we had a bullpen to tie things together
@@Karmy. it really does make you want to cry, doesnt it? The broadcasters, legendary, radio too was/is so good if you couldn't watch the broadcasters, we had everything but a bullpen, and unfortunately that's what cost us everything. This was probably one of the greatest matchups of some of the best players ever. One of the greatest hitters of all time against the greatest closer.
Lyle Overbay is a scrub
Yea🤣

That’s how classy Mariano is, instead of getting mad at himself or upset he just puts a face at 4:54 that says, “wow he got me again” basically tipping his cap to him. Thats what sets Mo apart from everyone else and also that he was an amazing pitcher obviously 😂.
The greatest hitter I seen in my 28 years of living I never seen Him strike out

What a great hitter
the best hitter on planet Earth
Had Mark Teixeira not been injured that season, he would have caught that foul ball and this would have never happened.
Naw..Miggy would have hit it a bit more foul😛
You know a baseball clip is old when they only show a players average and home run and rbi totals. Now a days, they give you a hitters ops, wOBA and wrc+
I always loved how everyone cheered and there’s Leland no emotion just shook his hand, that Kobe mentality
Amazing. Moments and duels like this is what makes Baseball great!
Wow man, it's all on that first-baseman. He could've catch that foul ball if he tried a little harder.
Yeah why wud someone tag a bag instead of stepping on it
Ahhh the good ol days
This is history and also one of my favorite moments in mlb
Cabrera isnt juicing, his first MLB home run when he 20 years old was to center field.
Walk off too
Mitch Popiel he's always had great bat speed and ability to drive ball to center and right field better than most
Mitch Popiel yeah he just like Big Macs
one of the greatest at bat ive ever seen...miggy simply the best hitter/player in the game...trout is grossly overrated
Trout is good
You might wanna take your words back
Yeah and clipper jones had a toothache
For few years Miggy was at an all-time level !!!
One of the best showdowns.
BEST PITCHER IN HISTORY VS BEST BATTER IN HISTORY
If you think Miguel Cabrera's the best batter in history, you know nothing about baseball. I can name ten better ones off the top of my head.
TheZekk34 I know right ted Williams ,babe ruth ,derek jeter , lou gerig, joe dammagio , ty cobb, chipper jones , jackie Robinson, bucky dent, mike trout who will soon to be.
Srry and pete rose
And cal ripken
He didn't mean it literally you idiots he's just giving this a cool tag line since Cabrera is the best batter today! Fucking tools
But did any of them win the triple crown? Miggy is possibly one of the greatest of all time but think of this, he plays with players that are unbelievable and back then many of them sucked.
If Overbay makes that play in foul territory, this would have never happened..
No shit! lol
Captain obvious
Duh!
If you hadn't been born you would not have made that comment.
And if Abraham Lincoln hadn't gone to the theater, he wouldn't have been shot in the head.
The best hitter in the last 40 years
the best after Ishiro
Man these were the days when Miggy actually had the best bat in baseball.. Now it’s mid July 2019 and he has FIVE home runs all season. His bat is slowed down, he can’t run anymore, he’s out of shape, and he’s signed for another 4 seasons. He makes something like $45,000 per at bat.
Yes, I am a bitter tigers fan..
Joe Michael you’re not the only one...
Age and weight catch up to all these guys. Pujols, fielder, miggy, Broxton. Everyone but colon, but it's a little different for him since he was a weak contact pitcher with loads of experience
Just makes me miss the Miggy of old.
wow I remember watching the last three innings of this game, this HR was one of the greatest I had ever seen , actually still is
This is one of the most incredible at bats I've ever seen.
Those white billed caps are sleek af
Oh come on don't talk about yourself like that.
+Han Zhang They ugly af
Just intentionally walk him, big brain Yankees
Yeah and bring up prime prince fielder with unfavorable right vs left matchup with a short porch in right field
Good thing you arent a manager
Manator and if they walked Migs, Fielder would've been the go ahead run instead of it being a tie game just facing Migs.
