  • Capt. John Fischer has been fishing his whole life, and ran as a primary Captain on the Patriot for over two decades. He now works as crew & Capt. on the Western Pride 1/2 Days, and has a wealth of knowledge to help set you up for success on your next fishing trip.
One of the biggest mistakes that can easily be avoided while fishing is making sure to pay attention to the tension on your line while fishing. Although fishing may seem like a passive activity, it takes practice and patience to feel the line and weights hitting the bottom, becoming slack and potentially tangled, and of course feeling the bite to know when to reel in your line.
The live bait fishing we’re doing at the moment takes another layer of skill, and it’s important to pay attention, and follow your live bait around the boat to avoid tangles, and to know when it’s time to change your bait for a fresh one.
Our 1/2 day trips depart every day and allow both novice and experienced anglers to enjoy 5-6hrs on the water fishing our coastal reefs. We’ve been targeting rockfish, sculpin, Sheephead, whitefish and bass on these trips, but as the waters warm and continue to trend in the right direction we will start to transition to more surface and shallow water fishing for Bass, bonito and barracuda.

That's my Uncle John! The OG of southern California fishermen. Come down to Davey's Locker for a great day of fishing.....the best crews, deckhands and service. Not to mention, the cheeseburgers on the boat are better then in-n-out!

Following their line is important too. Not following their line leads to tangles too.
