Fantastic. I saw my first ENGLISH ELECTRIC LIGHTNING circa 1961(?), from our house in Ramsden Road, Orpington, this loud and impressive plane flew over my infant school atop Tintagel Hill over the school playing field; a very special moment for me! 😃

A bit late but it's only today that I'm watching this video. Reminds me of my aircraft spotting and photography days at RAF Luqa in late 1960s/early 1970s when lots of Lightnings came periodically for a week or a fortnight for exercises. Even compared to today's jet fighters, in my opinion the Lightning's climb is still unchallenged. It was so exciting to see them take off with full afterburner and then suddenly climb until they were just specks in the sky. Tks for sharing this video.

I was at Luqa in the mid 70s and remember the Lightenings flying overhead. Also remember seeing them as we arrived in a VC10/Britania as we arrived.
Also lived down the road from Binbrook in the 80s but used to hear them rather than see them as they were so high.

Remember seeing the JetProvest from my bedroom widow at RAF Manby about 1968/69
Must be one of the best VHS recordings i have seen.
    Thanks.

Spent hours at Crash Gate 3, great times. Was there one winters morning & one of them veered off the taxyway, undercarriage leg sank straight down into the mud.

Thank god you had a camcorder, otherwise these moments would have been lost to time. I was based at Coningsby March 86 to Mar 88 and the one with the over wing tanks made a regular appearance in the last few months I was there. Thanks again 😊

Most of the crash gate videos were done on a video camera, and portable VHS recorder.
I did have a VHS(c) camcorder at the time But they were only 30 minute tapes. Expensive, so had to be
      re-used
It was cheaper to still use the older separates. And keep the original VHS quality.
As we were usually near the car, we could use the car battery to run them. Or the portable battery packs, on a extension lead.
I did do air shows etc with the VHS(c) camcorder as it was easier to carry around.
Then eventually getting a full size VHS camcorder.
Just wish there were digital cameras, & SD card video cameras at the time.
Quality, lightness, plenty of storage capacity, & no problem with batteries running out ,etc.
