      Nice, thats an impressive mileage! Does your engine use any oil? If yes how much? Mine has 45,000km and I have to refill 100ml every 2000km's. I'm not sure whether it's normal or a problem.

      @@kartoffelbrot3199 mine has 40k and doesnt burn any oil. This seems like a seal issue somewhere and i didnt have the problem with mine yet

      @Kartoffel Brot What Philipp said. But before you open up the engine, try to torque down all of the engine bolts to see if it helps. Because once you open up the engine, it's a pain in the butt to replace the gaskets and get things clean up.

    I bought this bike as my first bike - it's already 23 years old, with 37,000 km on the odometer. everything is fine except for a slight noise in gear no. 6, but only when under load. something like a rustling chain. Is this a sign of worn gears in gear 6?

    Thanks for this. I’m Getting ready to check the valve clearances in my gen 1 650 vstrom. This was very clear. Hopefully the clearances will be in spec and I won’t need to remove the cams. Can I check the clearances without removing the cam holders? That would be sweet.

    Is there any difference between the 1 gen(99-02) and 2gen(03-15 I think) besides that the 1 gen have a caburator and the 2gen has FI? And what gen is the motorcycle you are showing?

    Got a dumb question,
    Changed oil and in my haste blanked out the fill spout on the right side and instead filled on the left stator cover where you can view the timing marks.
    I ended up putting 2qts on the left side and 0.9 on the right, I have not started it yet but will that be enough oil to circulate back into the normal fill or should I full drain and fill in the correct right side?
    Thanks
    **Update - It finally flowed into the reservoir just took a good 24 hours, was fairly sure the crank had a channel to allow the flow just was odd it took that long

    Hi, great video. Thanks for breaking it down. Lol sorry for the pun. I unable to start my bike. Can I start the bike with a bad rectifier

    • @ianskeldon6032
      @ianskeldon6032 Před 2 lety +3

      If you start your bike with a non functioning rectifier you can fry the electrics as the voltage will not be rectified (stable dc voltage) so it could be say 30 volts AC going into all the electrics which will kill them. If the problem is your bike won't start then more information is needed, does the engine spin over? Is there a spark at the spark plug? Is fuel getting into the cylinder head ?

    Thanks for the video! Great job on the explanation of things. I have a question, it looks like I have an oil leak at the very bottom of the front cylinder head, do I have to disassemble the entire head to take it off and replace the gasket? Thanks in advance!

  • @thrust8727

    Do you think it’d be possible to do a head gasket job without taking the engine out of the bike?

    • @TheMotorcycleMuse
      @TheMotorcycleMuse  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah I'd say that is doable if the tank is taken off but consult the suzuki service manual or the Haynes manual to be sure. There may be some bolts that are hard to get at with engine still in the bike

      Very similar engine structure the first few generations. After moving to fuel injection in later model the timing on rotor changed but most likely the same apart from that
