The fact that they encourage some of the bigger guys to do cool looking high spots just to fit in despite the fact it is unnecessary in a regular match and sometimes looks dangerous shows the company has a bias toward the style that suits the bookers who work that way.

Too soon... They are building MJF just fine. He screwed Cody, he screwed Jerico and the Inner Circle, then he made his own faction, he is most likely going to defeat Jericho, achieve even bigger thing, him and his faction will most likely starting to collect gold too... He is gathering so much heat and so many accomplishments, that he is going to become a final boss in few years... If he would be booked in the way you guys think ''good booking'' would, MJF would basically end up being the Miz ... Just an asshole with mic skills that goes nowhere, and is stuck in the same format for the rest of his career... What purpose would taking the title from Mox to put on MJF would serve? How would it help MJF? Other than - he got to be the AEW champion - so basically a name on a list... And how it would help AEW? It would ruin all the long term story telling they build, and many other starts. It was clear that Kenny would take the title from Mox, since he lost that hardcore match at Full Gear, and it was clear that Kenny will end up becoming a heel to take that title from Kenny ... just like today is clear that Hangman will end up in a feud with Kenny and the Elites and take the title from Kenny ... this is an arc that has been 2 years in making. To ruin that just to give the title to MJF at a stage when he is not prepared in any way to make use of it, is basically WWE level booking.
MJF is just 25 years old ... he has +20 years to achieve a lot of things in his career.

@@davidgreen5994 I hear what you're saying, but giving him the title isn't just giving him the title. When you crown a champion they are part of what elevates your entire brand. On paper you might think of the Miz, but I think of The Rock. He was a nobody with potential and the mic skills to build heat. Just like MJF. Having the Rock claim the title when he did made every match for that title far more interesting because he had no legacy to make an obvious outcome. Kenny Omega with the title just means he defends it against guys that look irrelevant next to him because he has a tenured legacy and they're all relatively unknown. He can't build them up because he's too far above them. MJF on the other hand would make every title match more interesting because you don't know who will win and everytime someone puts up a fight against him you'd want to support them. Everytime he cheats to win it would feel more real and draw more heat. It wouldn't just be for him, it'd be for the whole locker room. A promotion full of unknowns needs to avoid big names holding the titles or even wrestling the roster until they convince the fans that the roster can compete. If everyone is Arguing Omega as the best, who on a roster full of guys you never heard of can compete? MJF gives you the chance to build your entire locker room while pushing a star only you've been able to secure in a major promotion. It's not just good for him, it would have been good for everyone.

It's rooster is stacked with main eventers who can be in the title picture. A feud for the AEW title needs to be at least 3 months long to make sense... preferable 6. You get the best results in a year long feud thou... so generally, the format is - one long term feud, with 1-2 or even 3 smaller ones in - between. The feud for the title between Mox and Kenny, started even before, Mox won the title. It started at the first All-In, and ended when Kenny won the title from Mox. The feud for title between Hangman and Kenny, started to develop right after Dynamite started. Those are long term build ups, that get peoples invested on long term, and are far more valuable than - ''Oh, this guy who peoples hate, one the title, so let's watch him, hoping that he will lose...'' @@davidgreen5994 perhaps, but if all the stories follow the same formula you can predict them a year in advance. The best part about hooking in your crowd is throwing curve balls they aren't ready for. If everyone has been waiting for Hangman to take the title since he left the elite then it won't shock or invest anyone. They already know it's coming. I get that Hangman, Omega, and Mox are all much bigger names, but that's exactly why I think MJF should have done it. If you aren't willing to build as many stars as you can, you get WWE. Where only two guys are worth a title shot and it gets boring real fast. Keeping fans guessing makes them excited to see what's next. Telegraphing it so badly that they can see it a year out cuts the momentum.

I don't think Hager is a complete waste of a roster spot. Mainly, you need him to run through people. AEW doesn't have very many big guys to begin with. But since Hager is a legit dude, and if you don't want him as a main event talent, then you have to find ways to make him lose without making him look weak. As for his personality, I don't think anyone has ever even tried a basic gimmick with him. Why not give him some sort of Ken Shamrock style psychotic rage gimmick?

    • @sonofafitch85

Sadly, Hager is one of those guys who just hasn't got "it" in the charisma stakes. His face looks naturally dumb/clueless, he just doesn't look tough, no matter how tough he is in real life. He's just boring as hell, he can't do a rage gimmick because he hasn't got it in him. I wouldn't call him a waste of a roster space either, but he's also not ever going to draw any money by himself.

@@sonofafitch85 oh, no doubt he's boring as hell. I remember at his debut, no one looked as surprised to see Jake Hager there as Jake Hager did. But anyone can pull off an angry gimmick, that's all you need for some cheap heat with a super heavyweight. And I don't know how reliable he is, but he seems like he's a good hand. We already know AEW isn't going to put the title on him because he's not 5'9" and 170 pounds, but I don't see anything wrong with him being on the roster.

He will... 3-5 years down the road. He will be TNT champion sooner thou. Is pretty obvious how Wardlow is booked and developed right now... he is on the Batista route -> Big guy in a heel faction, not necessary bad, more like in a bad gang, grows disillusioned with the faction as time goes, and one day turns against it, against the leader, becomes baby face and enters a feud against them, which may result in either the destruction of the faction, or him potentially taking the title from the leader ... or he gets over with the fans trough that feud, and is pushed as a single main eventer.

Is pretty clear that Wardlow is developed similarly to how Batista was built in Evolution, and at some point in the future he is going to turn against MJF and his faction, and become a babyface... But that's in the future... maybe a year, maybe two. Peoples those days, have no patience with long-term story telling... they are so used with how WWE is writing things out of their ass and drop stories out of nowhere, that when something that requires months if not years of building and polishing right away, they call it bad booking.
