Just had to say again how much I love your channel. No obnoxious music, ads, products to sell. Just in depth talk on books. That's what I need in my Booktube content!

Just like some other comments here, I love your channel! Videos with tons of transitions and cuts annoys me a lot when I'm trying to focus on something, which is why I love your videos, just deep book talking with nothing else to distract me from it!

Why are you not an editor?? I mean you are so good at this. I am a book lover since I was 10 years old. I have never heard anyone review a book like you do. And I have read quite a few books in the last 35 years. I will definitely put this on my list.

I do edit my coworkers things - they just don’t write books hahahah

Thank you for your viewpoint on these types of books. Yes, they are like pallet cleansers. I have decided that is what I need to read between the Historical Fiction and Thrillers I love to read. Thank you for sharing! Elizaberth

Yes, I agree: Even adults have a hard time communicating. IMHO many of us still fall back on the bad habit of thinking with the mouth, or playing it by ear. In a novel, the communication that seems is best is a paragraph or two the character has been formulating for days or weeks - even years - and then it's no longer the writer improving on what the character would struggle to express but instead a well thought-out expression of genuine feeling.

I know I still fall into those habits!
That’s a good point! I’ve also heard authors say that they have to remember to have characters speak and act in ways that is authentic to that character and not in ways we, or even the author would like for them to act.

i thought the first half of the book was really strong, but after chapter 10 it just kind of fell off a cliff for me because Poppy felt so flat and uninteresting. I wonder what it would have felt like to have had some chapters or sections from Alex's or 3P perspective.

This is a fair criticism!! I’ve heard other’s say this as well and yes, would have loved Alex’s perspective at some points!

Great review!! Romance novels are not my genre; I like literary fiction. However, I did read both of these books for something different and I liked People We Meet on Vacation but I didn’t care for Beach Reads at all. I didn’t like the writing or the characters. People We Meet on Vacation kept my interest and had some very funny moments.

Thank you!! That’s so funny how we both felt the same way about Beach Read vs. People We Meet on Vacation! 🙌🏼 her improvements are definitely evident in the second one!

You make this work sound really interesting. I agree with the comments below; you should consider doing a master's in English and maybe go into publishing, or better yet, writing. You're good at critiquing.

Thank you!! Working in publishing definitely isn’t something I want to do lol BUT I won’t write off (puns intended 🤣) the idea of writing on the future. Also, at work I do a lot of what I do in my reviews but it’s in a more technical space.

@@alanaestelle2076 Yeah, I can see you writing a novel one day. Best method I have found is to first get the main idea together and the, wake up early and write a little each day. Faulkner worked at a factory to support a wife and 5 children. The words just add up over time. I hope you will consider this seriously. Not everyone has a knack for it.

@@alanaestelle2076 I'm always amazed that Jane Eyre is only 21. I wish someone'd write a novel "opposite" of The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne. What I mean is... A story of someone older who becomes successful. It happens in real life all the time. Grandma Moses started painting at 75. The guy who started KFC was 52. I feel like there aren't enough books about people reinventing themselves in their late 30's, 40's. 50's. Anyway.... looking forward to Book Lovers arriving...
