I agree with your comment re age based funds. I think the current general advice to choose a fund based on one's age, has the potential to do more harm than good. I am almost 64, and when I switched providers to Simplicity (from a Growth/Balanced split fund) - I wasn't brave enough to choose a Growth Fund. I went with Balanced, which is what I am still in, but in hindsight, I think maybe I made that switch too early. Partly because Simplicity doesn't offer the ability to split funds, so I couldn't stick with my previous Growth/Balanced split. I do think having that option would be hugely beneficial. I think so-called "experts" need to stop advising people which fund to go with, based on age. I guess for people who are not interested or involved in their Kiwisaver (which is many people) that system probably works ok, but for anyone actively involved in their Kiwisaver, one size doesn't fit all.
Hey Sam, I can see why you believe the 'Keep calm and carry on' is the best strategy, and I agree. But I'd be keen to know your thoughts on Warren Buffet's dumping of Apple shares. Alongside this he's commented that he is not feeling very positive about the immediate future of the US economy. Do you and Andrew share that outlook, or do you just take the 'nobody knows' view (which is the truthful one!) Thanks, really enjoyed the presentation.
