This is one of my favorite little seaplanes. Compilation of a few various adventures around the west Orlando and Tavares, Florida area. This is a 135hp C140 on straight floats.
I haven't flown (or seen) this airplane in a while but if I remember correctly the vents are part of the O-290 (135hp) conversion and the V brace is one of the visible parts of the optional Cessna float kit. Floats add significant stress to the airframe so additional bracing/strengthening is needed to go from wheels to floats.
This airplane belonged to a float flying club where I was a member. I flew it often but I don't remember the exact specs. The owner has since put it back on wheels and ditched the floats. It was a pretty good performer with 1 person. Not so much with 2. And forget loading it up on a hot day!!
Well, it's no beast off the water, but certainly better than a cub. Maybe a good 15-17 second takeoff in normal conditions with one person. Add a passenger and you can easily double that!
If the weather is super crappy or forecasted to be so, you don't go flying with this airplane. If the water gets choppy you simply land in the choppy water. You fly this type of aircraft on inland lakes where the water is reasonably predictable. This isn't an open ocean bird!
Hi Tamer. No, unfortunately I do not. The airplane is owned by Jones Bros Seaplanes in Tavares, Florida now. I belonged to their float flying club which included use of this 140. Prior to that though, it was owned by Seaplane Pilots Association President, Steve McCaughey. He knew a lot about the airplane's history. You might find him through SPA.
Well, I'm no biologist, but my understanding is that many of the freshwater lakes in Florida have very high algae concentrations. Especially in the summer when water temps are high.
Awesome video. Thanks for not putting dumb music in it!
Thanks. I like dumb music, but I like the sound of airplanes even better. I'll leave the fancy editing to the pros!
That's a nice vintage float plane :) Thanks for the video.
135hp, very nice. I had my C140 just on wheels with a Continental 90 & she struggled on wheels in summer
Haha it's in the reeds. Cool video
Nice Glassy Water Takeoff
I never saw a 140 with cowl vents and windscreen brace. Do you know why those were added?

@@kevinoaks Makes sense, thanks! Very cool video.
Hi super video how does it fly
What’s your gross weight and useful load looking at buying a similar plane

Great video! What kind of distance does it take for takeoff and landings?

So what happens if the weather gets grappy while you are up and the water has gotten choppy?

Hey, fellow 120/140 owner here, do you happen to have any drawings for that V-Brace? Looking to get one/have one made for mine. Thanks!

Hi is the cockpit quiet
Did JB sell that plane?
Hi what engine is in the Cessna
Lycoming O-290
O-290 conversion?
It is an O-290!
why is the water green

Ok I’m from northern Ontario and the water is very clean so I have never seen that before. Well at least you don’t freeze during the winter
