Blueberry Picking in Hamilton New Zealand || Ryburns Gardens Blueberries

This video is about blueberry picking in Hamilton, New Zealand. During summer we went to a blueberry garden in Hamilton for Blueberry picking. Blueberry is a great source of anti-oxidant and is considered one of the superfoods. In New Zealand, we are lucky enough to get a huge amount of blueberries during summer. While coming back from Taupo we went to the blueberry garden for some blueberry picking.
The entry fee was reasonable, for four of us (2 adult and 2 kids) the entry fee was $15 which covers the cost of the first KG of blueberry you pick.
Additional picked blueberries are priced as $13/kg Compared to supermarket price this was a lot cheaper and you get fresh blueberries.
They had eftpos as well so was easy to pay.The person in the counter told us to go to a specific part of the garden which had.
all the nice blueberries.
As you can see in the video, the plants covered with nets are the blueberry plants. The growers use the nets for bird protection, pest control, weather protection and sun protection. Yes, that is correct. Sunlight is important to grow blueberries but too much direct sun can cause them overheat which is not good for the blueberry fruits.
You need to go inside the net to pick blueberries. Once you go inside, it is normal to get excited and normally people start picking whatever they get in front of them. However, this is important to pick the right one. You can also eat a handful but this is advisable to wash before you eat as growers use pesticides which are definitely not good for humans to eat.
There are Some tips to pick the best blueberries:
1. Color: Look for blueberries that are deep blue or purple-blue in color. Avoid green or reddish berries, as they are likely underripe.
2. Firmness: Gently squeeze the berries. They should be firm but not hard. Overripe berries will be mushy.
3. Size: Larger berries tend to be juicier, but smaller ones can be just as sweet. Choose based on your preference.
4. Dryness: Berries should be dry, not wet or leaking juice, which can indicate they are old or damaged.
