  • The damage being done to many hospital services in England by the coronavirus pandemic is revealed in new NHS figures.
More than 4 million patients are now waiting for routine surgery and treatments, nearly half of whom have been waiting for longer than 18 weeks, the official maximum target.
Meanwhile more than 110,000 people in England have been waiting for treatment for more than a year.
Doctors and patients' groups are warning that a second wave of the pandemic, especially during the winter months, could make things even worse. Hospital admission for Covid have doubled in the past two weeks.
The health minister Nadine Dorries has warned that within 10 days hospitals in England could be at a “critical” point.
Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by health editor Hugh Pym and health correspondent Lauren Moss.

To save you time, the problem is:
BECAUSE the gov't stopped the NHS from treating anyone, now there's a BACKLOG.
    In other words:
*_The gov't stopped the NHS from treating anyone_* SO now there's a BACKLOG.
Or to put it another way:
There's a BACKLOG. Because *_THE GOV'T_* stopped the NHS from treating anyone.

Tomakak Ah yes back then when the poor were sent to workhouses, medicine was basic, hell of a lot of child deaths, domestic abuse was rampant, less clean water so we drank more ale, syphilis, other diseases, no worker rights, kids working in unsafe environments, many families to a house, pollution from coal trains. If you were gay, lesbian, bi/pan you never dare speak out, executions (which are not a good crime deterrant, Yeah, far superior right?
We also took what we liked from countries we invaded all in the name of an "Empire". We were terrible. Hence why there was less immigration (however we still had them). Our country is built on the blood and sweat of the poor and badly treated. If you're working class, well back then life was shit for the working class. I don't fancy the idea of returning to a life of repression ta.

Actually the flu/flu like illnesses kill between 20-60k people a year- not millions. Covid has killed 1 million in less than a year. 1% of people need to be hospitalised for getting the flu compared to 20% that need to be hospitalised when getting covid.
Covid is not exactly like the flu. It is 20 times more lethal and the death rate is only so low because quarantine has slowed the spread which has enabled hospitals to keep up with the demand. As soon as hospitals run out of space and equipment, that percentage will go up. In Italy, before they got the spread to manageable levels, the chance of dying from covid rose to 7-8%.

What I have heard from all the medical staff I am related to or know, and what I have witnessed having just spent time in hospital, the wards are not full of Covid patients so where are the staff that usually deal with all the other ailments? Is Covid now the only issue in the world? We know ward managers have taken the opportunity to reduce availability or even just close wards which we know aids their budgets no end. My recent trips to A&E and after that surgery through a heart ward showed me that the aim was IN & OUT. I have gone through this before and the heart ward looked less busy than last time I was in there. As long as I was breathing I was going home. Rehab now doesn’t exist! Something else going on here!? 56 covid deaths a day (RIP) will take 3,325 years to wipe at all 67,982,314 UK citizens. These 56 deaths daily deaths are a small fraction of the daily baseline average of 1,615 mortalities per day (2019 published data). Meanwhile, about 2,000 babies are born here every day. Where's the existential threat?

    • @brownbagel.
      @brownbagel. Před 3 lety +4

You're a clown, the number of deaths are only being kept this low because of all the people following proper guidelines, which limits number of people that get COVID. As cases increase, the virus will spread exponentially, and what's worse is hospitals will start to run out of capacity to help people and the death rate will go up.

@@brownbagel. A clown for pointing out what the actual maths is? I thank you for your interesting, civil response. The global death rate has averaged 5,250 deaths per day since the end of March. I predict the global death count on October 21st will cross 1,130,000 fatalities and be registered here - www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries
      The current number is 1,066,856.
Come back in twelve days time and see if I'm proven wrong...
The death rate % will have also dropped from 4% to 3% just before that date.

Also, the 3% is of all cases - not the population. So you should have written "3% of the UKs cases is all the 561,815 people thus far iwhich come to be 16854.45 whereas the actual UK data shows that a greater number - 42,592 has died and the UK fatality percentage ratio is a staggering 7.581% - two and a half times greater than the rest of the world put together... How do you explain that?

During the Covid 19 Crisis, I have had to wait quite a few weeks, to an extent that it went out of control and I ended up in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, as an Emergency last week! 😔 I was surprised to hear that the Hospital isn't actually that hit by COVID patients, as I expected 🙄🤔👍 However, I found that Patients with Conditions, like myself, nothing to do with the CORONA VIRUS, were treated differently! Sent home, when they really were in no condition to be sent home! When they could have sent them to the ward, where they had the specific Doctors needed! 😔 The Nurses and Doctors there are doing great to keep that Virus under Control and I could see that it's by no means easy for and on them! But they work hard enough to keep the numbers of Covid 19 low! But this mustn't be at the cost of those patients with other and also serious Conditions! And i am 1 of them! 😔 😒
