Your right, she is not a co-pilot. She is a nurse. But, they are also trained, if they are not willing to look outside and assist the pilot, they are instructed to stay in the back as well. They are urged to assist the pilot, they work the radio, they are part of a team effort to help keep everyone safe. Nobody said she would be blamed in a incident or accident. Pilot In Command! Every PIC is very well aware that he and he only is responsible, for absolutely everything during the entire flight!

Maybe put subtitles of what you are actually doing as you go through the check list?

Great video for helicopter enthusiasts, thanks! Are the engines being started up using battery power alone or is there an APU?

The answer is battery. APUs are usually only on larger aircraft (H-60 for example)

Wow... start-up is exactly the same as in the sim, and so is the slight left leaning on takeoff. And I was thinking the sim is being buggy, if I don't lean to the left when the heli gets airborne it translates to the right. Too bad there is no need for new heli pilots at the moment!

Why don't you keep your hand at the starter switch untill starter is out of the CAD? If you get a hot start you are probably too late with switching it off again ;)

Does the EC-135 automatically add fuel, in the start sequence, once the gas producer has achieved the right pressure?

Does the nurse need to be a licensed radio operator to work the radio in the US or is the nurse just briefed before the flight and given on the job training? I am curious regarding differences in these aspect between EASA and the FAA.
In some countries Ex the UK there is separate theoretical and practical test that you have to take and pass to be able operate a radio in flight legally. thank you

Lulu M likely pre flight checks. Most HEMS services have the medic ride as spotter in the passenger seat to a scene, and the medical crews perform pre flight checks, bags, meds, pumps, etc etc. Also the medical crew is usually responsible for making sure the shore line is unplugged and the portable ac unit is detached in the summer. That varies from service to service on that particular responsibility. But yeah likely pre flight equipment roll call so to speak 👍

She is not a co-pilot,No controls on her side.It is illegal to have controls there if the person next to the pilot in command is not a qualified pilot or a student pilot as far as EASA goes.I am not sure about the FAA regulations .There is also no legal requirement for her to be looking outside either. Saying that, it is always good to have an extra pair of eyes looking out but it is not her responsibility and she can not be held accountable it some accident happened.
