You are not the only one. I am going through this now. I have tried to start my freeform/semi freeform journey at least 4 to 5 times in the last 3 years. I still don't know if I am ready. I have tried sponging, using twist it up, just washing and palming to form locs. I even thought growing hair to start with twist. I dont know I should table the thought. Now, I am just growing my hair and wearing an afro. Praying I don't cut my hair again. Last time I went 10 months without cutting it. I am currently I am 3 months strong. When did you stop overthinking it? How did you?
