  • In this weeks episode, I show you guys my NEW break cue. Many say the butt of the cue doesn't matter. However, I have always held the belief that the butt of the cue can definitely change the characteristics of how the cue plays and performs.

      @@grayrecluse7496 more than that. It's about everything in a break. Follow thru, body position, putting your body into it. Grip strength is the least thing. In fact the grip should always be loose in breaking just like playing. Too tight gives problems following thru and staying straight. The power isn't in the gripping

    I own the Bk Rush and I have to say that the balls break better for me with less effort. I used to try and kill it but i lost all cue ball control and the balls didn't really spread well. Then I realized that letting the cue do the work very much like a golf club would do, my breaks began looking like professional breaks with much better control. I think many break cues can do the job but you have to find what works for you. Try using other people's break cues as it will save you money. Great job on the video and beautiful table!! Nice break cue!

    • @3spressoShot
      @3spressoShot Před rokem +1

      Hitting where your actually aiming is the most important part. Like you said you were breaking too hard and losing the ball so you were losing energy transfer.
      Now your hitting more accurate so a technically weaker break might still be transforming more energy into the rack.
      It’s all about break technique. I do think the bk rush has some things going for it which makes it a good break cue. It doesn’t have the hardest tip ever which means chalk holds better and less miscues. Plus ld properties also helps since a power break has so many moving parts.
      That’s said if your power break technique is solid you can break hard and get good spread with any cue.
      I have buddies that use the bk and I have a lot of experience with it … I like it.
      I personally break with a cheap sneaky Pete that I changed the plastic ferrule and put a micarta ferrule and a g10 tip.
      I spent like 85 bucks over all. And I have one of the best breaks at my pool hall.
      I think the fact that g10 is so unforgiving it made me work on my break technique.
      Figure out what style of power break suits you and work on it like you would any other part of your game.
      Look at Jeff de Luna and svb two of the best breakers in the world with very different break styles

    For years, decades, I broke with a one piece house cue. Just bought the sledgehammer by McDermott. Been using it two months and although not a much noticeable difference in the break / spread, it's nice to be able to travel with a dedicated break cue. I don't regret the purchase but I also doubt it's worth the $450.

      If you really enjoy the game and want better equipment, it's worth it. If just casually play ever blue moon, save your money.

    • @kevinbui4059
      @kevinbui4059 Před 2 měsíci

      I think paying $450 or more for a good jump/break or break cue is worth it. Even though the break cue isn't used as much as your playing cue, it does end up being used quite a bit, especially if you are playing winner breaks or an alternating break format.
      I personally break with a BK Rush, and when I first got it, I was a bit worried that I overpaid for it, however, the more and more I use it (and it's been more than 3 or 4 years now), the more I realize that the BK Rush is worth the money.
      There's certainly no magic break cue for breaking. You still need to work on breaking just like you would with any other skill. It's a combination of control and power. You won't get a good break by lacking in one or the other.

    Do you feel that the weight has a lot of impact on the cue ball speed and general spread of the break? It’s just 24 ounces is pretty heavy and a lot of players do prefer lighter break sticks.

    • @JH-fk8ow
      @JH-fk8ow Před 2 lety

      it really depends more on how good your timing, technique and arm speed is, rather than cue weight. heavier cue can give you more breaking power only if you can keep the speed similar to the lighter cue. Tho heavier cue wont give you as much breaking power as you would get from a faster arm speed. If you got alot of fast twitch muscles you can generate alot more cue speed with lighter cue than heavier cue to a point and/or you can get the same cue speed in very short compact break stroke that gives alot of cueball control. With heavy cue you are forced to take longer back swing to accelerate the cue. I like 17-18ounce break cue and can break pretty hard without any body action.

      @@DaCake2 There is of course theoretical physics that come to play when talking about the break. However, simply talking about pure theoretical physics is only part of breaking in my opinion.
      You have to take into account that a human is swinging the break cue (not a robot). I personally don't like to break with a light cue because I have to swing my arm incredibly quick to generate power. This quick accerlation with my arm causes me to be more inaccurate on where I strike the cue ball. An inaccurate hit generally means less control of the cue ball and sometimes even less power due to not striking the cue ball full.
      I have moved to a heavier break cue at around 22oz because I don't have to swing my arm as quickly. This means I can have a more accurate hit while also generating good power because the weight of the cue does the work for me.
      At the end of the day, it's all personal preference. I recommend trying different weights until you find the perfect balance for YOUR game.

      I could put (2) 24oz cues in your hand and both will feel very different in weight. It’s hard to have that opinion without even trying a cue built like this one.
      He explained pretty well that the weight of this break cue was balanced well and with the tapered butt it’s not hard to realize that it likely feels like he likes his old break cues of 20oz.
      I also like a 19.85 - 20oz break cue in weight.
      The choke up method of breaking has long been spoken about by Joe Tucker in his Racking Secrets videos. It’s common sense as well when you think about it but most amateurs don’t do this.
      Jeff DeLuna used to break with a 25oz break cue and he is one of the best in the World at breaking.
      Phillipine players even with their playing cues use a more choked up back hand and it’s because they get more accuracy with this in their playing cue and when breaking, it delivers a longer lever with your back arm which translates into more power.
      Great video EW and wish I saw this when you originally released it.

    Imo wooden sticks are better than all the other materials on the market. Considering I can beat a "pro" with a bent up 1 piece Canadian maple wood viper house cue ($30) against a guy who has a straight carbon McDermott ($4,700).
    I also started tournaments last night and cleaned the bracket of 8 ball in less than 15 minutes of play time when the tournament took 6 hours. Literally just walked up and ended the game or just no scoped all my shots. Entry was $10 and I walked away with $380 but tipped the pool hall owner $30 for hosting since he just started doing tournaments. I told him next time to bring some real competition and he said, "If you didn't notice you made them all mad, you're the only one that used a house cue.) He said I should get my own cue before doing another tournament. I said, "Bud the only thing I need is somebody who doesn't leave the table open like it's a waffle house." But he's using some of that tip money for a pizza party between my team and him and his wife before the next tournament. 😆

    It's a great cue, but I don't think its a BK rush killer. If you are going to state that a cue is a BK Rush killer, you should at least show a comparison breaking with you breaking with both cues. It's all about technique. I am sure they're people who can break just as well as you, if not better with a BK Rush.

    • @TheBilliardCorner
      @TheBilliardCorner  Před 2 lety

      There really is no point in showing a breaking comparison with both cues. Any comparison I perform I will be called biased. Perhaps if you started making your own pool content you would understand where I'm coming from. That's why I focused on showing the overall design in this video.
      In my opinion, the design of this cue is superior to the BKRUSH. The reverse tapered butt allows for the user to more naturally choke up the cue and deliver a powerful, effortless break.
      Of course, everything is about technique. The same argument could be made that a simple house cue (if used by a pro) could outbreak the BKRUSH as well.
      Everything is of my opinion in this video, yours may differ.

    🤦🏻‍♂️ Dude, where do I even start. First of all I have that same Mezz breaker and a few other Mezz break butts and the bk Rush. I have multiple shafts for the Mezz including their higher end H break shaft. I also have a few runde era schon players you have nice taste. Mezz is very high quality but BK rush is simply a better break cue. It took me a few weeks to adjust to the bk rush coming off mezz. There’s no need for that reverse taper it’s all technique. You’re losing a lot of power when you pop that much. Pop is ok to control the cb but not that much. In other takes you’re literally soft breaking you can do that with any cue. I hated the Tiger btw ( love Tony though ). BK rush is not a must have but it’s an amazing break cue, literally all you need if you know how to break.

    • @TheBilliardCorner
      @TheBilliardCorner  Před 2 lety

      Nah, I'd disagree. The Mezz cue and Sowder's reverse taper break cue is superior in both technology and quality.
      The bkrush is black paint over cheap maple sliced into 4, hard tip, carbon fiber shaft with reinforced low deflection front end. Mezz/Sowder break cues are better designed and much higher quality with their woods and materials. A better designed cue transfers power easier and makes for an effortless break. Whether you perform a soft or hard break it makes the break easier to perform with control.
      The quality and technology is just not there for the BKRUSH in my opinion. Nothing really special to the Predator BKRUSH in my opinion. I even own a Predator IKON as well so its not that I'm a Predator hater. I just think there are better options than the over hyped BKRUSH.
      Of course, it is all technique. You're right on that. However, in that scenario, we might as well just all play with house cues. No need for a fancy $700 BKRUSH.
