- Take a ride through Northern Virginia in the 1980s on my O Gauge Layout. In today's video, models from Lionel, MTH, and Atlas recreate the Richmond, Fredricksburg, & Potomac Railroad's (RF&P) operations, coupled with Amtrak's ICONIC Phase III F40 charging down the mainline.

I love the 80s. I still got my parachute pants from 1984. As for favorite railroad. The Milwaukee Road was still in service and they had bright orange to fit in with the bright colors of the 80s.
Thanks for that blast from the past RJ! I model the MoPac and Katy from that era because that's what I remember seeing when my dad and I would go railfanning. The Katy and MoPac would do long lashups of power. Amtrak had the Inter-American with amfleets like yours but phase 1 and an F40. Then switched to Superliners in phase2 with the Texas Eagle. Always liked seeing stuff from the RF&P. Dad was born in Alexandria and saw the RF&P and Potomac yard as a kid. To me, they seemed scrappy like the Katy. Stuck between giants and looking cool, defying the odds. Thanks for sharing your 80's trains with us! -Ricky

I am a fan of those MTH cars. Nice shorter size and nice prices. My son put together an O guage version of the trains that run up and down the Hudson with those cars.
Great video, RJ. Most of my favourite pop music comes from era. As for railroads, I live in Canada, so the choices are slimmer than in the U.S.. There's CP (now CPKC), CN, VIA and in Ontario, Ontario Northland. My favourite railway here is CP because of its current leadership. As passenger, I've ridden on CN, when it offered passenger service, VIA and Ontario Northland. The only unfortunate incident was wheel a wheel flew off the VIA coach I was riding in. Found out later the brake on that wheel had locked while the train was moving. A little bit scary.
Nice history lesson on little known RR line, i hope to alsoake ot to York on Sat of show. Hopefully i don't apent too much $ this Sat at Fredneck auction that has a decent sized collection from a estate
