I had a feeling the "actual level" was gonna be something silly, and honestly, it's the perfect way to end this hack.
Yah. I love the horrible level at the end. You die and have to start over. I wonder if you can complete the level?
@@BlueTelevisionGames That was going to be my question - maybe someone using save states will save at that point and see if the level at the end can be cleared.
@@BlueTelevisionGames Invisible blocks prevent you from progressing any further at the end even if you make it past all the other shenanigans on screen.

The idea of a Mario level where you shifted into the World Map level while avoiding hazardous obstacles is the kind of gimmick that Nintendo would do.
Granted, but Mario will have only 3 lives and no 1ups can be obtained besides very expensive in-app purchases. Run out - old school Game Over with account permanently banned.

It's crazy that jumping out of the map mode and into the regular side scrolling mode almost gives this a 3D feel, even though it's all 2D. It kind of broke my mind a little bit.

To answer a question or two, this whole hack never steps into the overworld, its all "overworld" recreated in a level. This was all MM102's Idea. I just helped make some rooms so that we could actually get this submitted to the contest in time. We barely made the deadline with like... 2 minutes to spare, it was a VERY stressful morning. I think if we had any idea just how popular this was gonna get, i think we would of been a bit better on the swearing so that peeps didn't need to censor it out ^^;
I've been wanting to ask, is the final level actually beatable? Though it looks like chaos it doesn't mean it's unbeatable

12:23 for Darby and those who don't know, this is the judgement hall or last corridor from undertale. But It's unique I gotta say!
Also, the clown car was sans. and music used when going into a battle is from undertale again. And the way you fight the boss (there is noooooone!) is close to undertales system!
Also a journeys end is another undertale reference with the monsters finally being free from the underground and the protagonaist blabualau's journeys end.

I'm a Japanese who likes retro Mario games🇯🇵🎮I've seen a lot of Mario World rom hacks, but I've never seen a gimmick that combines a map and a stage, and I thought it was very interesting. I want to send the best idea award to the creator! And thank you Darby for introducing me to this game! 😄👍

6:34 I think the song is a rendition of Hard Times by the Jetsons. Either that or it's Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3. Both were composed by Brad Buxer and it's actually the reason Sonic 3's music is kinda in murky territory.

Hard Times was an unreleased/scrapped song, and Brad Buxer didn’t expect it to ever see the light of day so he just reused it for Ice Cap Zone.

when i was a kid, this was how Mario World felt... and now as an adult, it's finally what Mario World is... it's been decades but we finally did it!

The level actually is impossible to win and Mario dying is the ending. If for some reason you get past all that enemy and hazard spam the level just gives out to an endless abyss that's impossible to cross.

This is romhack is actually really cool! We need an official Mario game where the world map is in the background and the regular level is in the foreground and you can transition between moving around on the regular level and the world map and the enemies and objects on the regular level effects the world map and enemies and objects on the world map effects the regular level!

and I'm very certain that the music at 6:14 or so is a remix of "Hard times" by the Jetzons (the same song that a lot of people believe Ice cap zone's music came from)
The music for the level at 6:13 uses Ice Cap Zone with a Super Mario World Soundfont

@@BlueTelevisionGames you really should check out the JUMP (short for Janked Up Mario Party) games. they get quite challenging but they are a great time.
the team behind them helped to popularize these kinds of insane gimmick shenanigans with goofy level names that lead to stuff like this in the first place

This reminds me of the turn based platformer GameFreak made in the 90s and that Mario Party minigame that was a turn based racing game.
