How I shoot with BMPCC OG and why I think this truly is a pocket cinema despite what people might say.
Stay tuned for the next video where I'll be running through my color grading workflow and I'll show you how I simulate the film look in Davinci Resolve

Great Video! I love the look and feel of your filming. I also have this setup and I was wondering how you deal with the lens not retracting when you power off the camera. I have to do a “release trigger dance” each time. I have also been buying your power grades... I think they are amazing.
Thanks so much! My lens does actually close down when I power off the camera, it only stays extended if I turn the camera off whilst viewing a clip (which I rarely do in order to conserve battery life)
i have read on th bm blog that they corrected thate in late framewares of the camera.
That was great. The OG BMPCC feels like true S16mm.
Can't wait for your grading tutorial.
Just recently got this camera, and your videos are helping a ton. Can't wait for the color grading one. Also resonate a lot with you and your viewpoint of the camera. Im new to the filmmaker world, but glad we are a part of it. Good luck to you man, I'll be appreciating your content
Really glad to hear you enjoyed the videos! Such a great camera
This was an amazing video mate! I enjoyed the creative aspect of your shots, narration and brevity. Bravo!
You capture your daily life in a insanely beautiful and simple way. You definitely inspire me to do the same! Great video Oliver :)
Thanks so much Rafaela! Really glad you liked it :)
I’ve wanted the bmpcc ever since it came out and your videos convinced me to finally pull the trigger. Bought your power grade too. Excellent work. Cant wait to travel with this camera.
Really inspiring stuff and you make my hometown Streatham look much more beautiful than I see it usually! Appreciate your work
Thanks so much Rob! Also fair play spotting it was streatham!!
I come back to this video from time to time and enjoy watching it again! Great work, Oliver! Keep going!
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the video
So beautiful. I’ve been looking into picking one up again, the sensor truly has such a unique look.
Thank you very much! Yes such a brilliant camera, the image never ceases to amaze me! Pick one up again ;)
I must be in the twlight zone... I've literally just got a bmpcc og last week and the 14-42mm pancake came in the mail today. Also ordered a JJC automatic lens hood for it. And I agree with everything you said... I just want a pocketable camera that can take amazing video. I just want to use it like a point and shoot, taking quick snapshots of memories. I don't need a big rig or a ton of battery life. The appeal to me is to have an actually pocketable camera.
Really cool that we have the exact same ideas and considerations! I love that this camera seems to be having a sort of revival.
I hesitated on grabbing this for the same reason, got overwhelmed by all the advice about needing a big rig, but you convinced me otherwise. Love the filmic look this camera delivers. Gorgeous scenery you captured here!
Thanks so much! It’s an amazing camera
so, were you able to use it as a real pocket camera or did the battery die in 10 mins?
Thank you, Oliver. The emotional power and beauty of your images is remarkable. Lovely work. I feel inspired now to take a look at this camera--as you say, a true pocket cinema camera.
Thanks so much!! Really glad you enjoyed the video
We need more creators like you, unafraid to create regardless of the gear. Getting back to the point of this craft, telling stories with what we have
Thanks so much for the comment 🙏🙏
🔥🔥🔥 I been rocking the of bmpcc for about 7 years and it still holds up to all the clout from when it first came out. I have the 14-4mm and 25mm lumix lens. In addition to that I have the bmpcc metabones f to mf3 speedbooster to adapt my all my Nikon lenses to the camera. The speedbooster basically converted the crop factor from 2.88 to 1.75 making the super 16 sensor basically a super 35. It also gave me a better shallow depth of field and Increased my aperture by 1 2/3stop. (with a maximum output aperture of f/0.74). Great choice on camera, I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Great video! I love this camera! I've been using mine since 2014 and never felt the need to upgrade. But i do treat it like a cinema camera and not a pocket camera
Absolutely love this. I was between this camera and the lumix gx85 (ended up getting the latter because of your videos and also for a really good price, but still have a slight yearning for the bmpcc). Either way, you keep inspiring me to go out and shoot. Looking forward to future videos. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much Lauryn!! Really glad you enjoyed the video and that you picked up the GX85, it really is a great little camera!
Maravilloso !!! Can't wait for your grading tutorial.
Thinking about picking up this cam just because of your vids. Can’t wait for the color grading workflow!
Really glad you liked the videos! Color grading tutorial coming soon :)
Sigma fp and BMPCC OG are the two cameras I use, even if I also have a S5 and BMPPC4k. Just love the image quality of the Sigma fp and the retro image quality of the BMPCC OG.
This film is so delicate and calming. Thank you for such an artistic review.
Thanks so much!
This is really beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I've felt the same way about the Original bmpcc for a long time. Maybe it's time to finally purchase.
Thanks so much, glad you liked the video!!
Can't wait to see what content you shoot with this camera, something about the colors thats better than even the pocket 4k! Honestly debating on picking one up as a travel camera.
I’ve got to agree, definitely something special about the Colours, I can’t recommend it enough as a travel/carry around camera
All I want to say is thank you for helping me to feel inspired to shoot again. Definitely will be getting this camera soon.
Thanks very much Mustafa! Glad you enjoyed it
I saw bloc party at brixton academy while on holiday in the UK in 2016, so that was great to see in your shots. You’ve got the right approach with the bmpcc and you’re getting great shots.
I need this. You've beautifully captured your daily life.
Amazing, very beautiful work!! 👍🏾
So sick oh my god! Will definitly be staying tuned for the next drops :D
Thanks very much Abdul!! Really appreciate it
This is the first gear video I've seen in years that's actually moved my needle. You've seriously made me rethink some of my preconceptions of not only this particular camera but of how equipment changes the way that we interface with what we're capturing.
Thanks so much Ethan!! :)
3:18 This shot is simply amazing. Hard to believe its shot on the og bmpcc.
Thanks!!!
Man I would kill to get my hands on one of these used ones
The funny thing. I saw this was about the BM OG and I clicked on it I scrub through then I stopped, I said hey that's Streatham common I'm sure ....but not 100% then ok I carried on then I saw the train, that was a nice shot and the fruit bowl was too, now I'm paused at 1:36 I see my home town. the st Mathews church and the Townhall clock even the steeple of the church on lambert rd. Which was something I could see from the top floor flat on Bonham rd as a child. Well, it means so much to me because I was born in Brixton and grew up there in the 70's all the way to 2004...where am I now with my BMPCC OG and 4k on the other side of the planet typing this on a Saturday morning in Argentina my New home for the past few years. This post brought me home...the images look good keep it up...tell a story with it.
The images captured are so beautiful. I enjoy this video so much being a fan of the origina bmpcc too. Thank you!
Thanks very much! Such a great camera!!
Great stuff man. Keep up the awesome work! Killing it
Thanks very much Tyler!!! Really appreciate it
Love that shots around Streatham! 😊
gorgeous colors and pictures in general, loved it made me want to buy one . cant wait to se your color grading tutorial=)
Thanks so much!!! :)
You have a charismatic narrating voice, great shots, pretty genuine! Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks so much for the kind words!! Glad you enjoyed the video
will soon get my BMPCC OG to dive into cinematography from film photography and i found your channel!
great colour grading!!
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Great result!
this camera looks soo friggin wonderful, that s16 sensor is something else
I love the OG BMPCC!! Thanks! Super inspired
Your footage looks great. Looking forward to the grading video
Thanks very much Robert!!
Dude, i loved this video so much
This little camera is beast! The original BMPCC is the o ou camera that has a very very very close look of a 16mm film camera. You can really achieve film like quality with this baby.
Loved this video mate, really inspiring.
Thanks so much!! Really appreciate it
Your vid looks so simple and beautiful! If it was the ad of BMPCC i will buy it
Thanks so much!
Nice work! That camera is very special, but I don't think people realize how great these little Panasonic kit lenses are as well! I use many other lenses but I always come back to these Panny lenses for this camera, specifically this 14-42mm pz pancake lens and the 12-35mm f2.8 lens.
Thanks very much and I completely agree! Always amazed at how sharp these lenses are even though they’re so compact. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the 12-35mm 2.8 so will have to give that a go soon for sure!
I have two of these and I use them to film my cooking videos. I really do love these cameras.
Well you’ve just convinced me with this beautiful footage and size to get one and move away from super 8. I’ve got some c mount lenses and ordered one with a loupe and external battery pack. Do I need anything else other than a pistol grip? VND or some other filter maybe? Also will definitely be picking up your orthochromatic powergrade looks fantastic and a great starting point for a beginner!
Tank you for this video. I recently was given this camera. The screen is broken (it shows purple color on the screen) but I'm trying it out right now to see how the quality is. I hope they turn out as beautiful as your shots. I have two batteries, it def could use a third.
color grading at its best ! wow
Thanks very much!!
Love this!
eu adoro os videos dessa pequena camera, sao maravilhosos
Great work Oliver
Thanks very much!!
i like the tarkovsky reference at the start. and everything else!
really dope setup
dope video oliver. love the mirror-selfie-talking head :)
Thanks so much Romain!!
I thought this was a clip from the film "Cashback” when I heard the narration. Well done!
Great video Oliver. Do you find that the electronic zoom and focus method of the 14-42 lens helps with video compared to ring focus/zoom? I ask because I am looking for a portable setup for everyday documentary, like how you use it. I am used to large lenses and contorting my hands to achieve dolly zooms and focus pulls, but the lumix vario seems perfect because the zoom and focus is handled a bit like a camcorder.
this was a wonderful review! thank you!
Thank you so much!
00:39 - funny you shot a train, that's the exact reason I am looking at these pocket cinema cameras.
Great video too, lots of actual camera footage, no obnoxious intro, just straight to the point!
Beautiful!!!!👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much Raul!!
Great video!
Absolutely Beautiful!! Got my (used) BMPCc yesterday.. still working :)) .. do you just simply upskale to 4 K after editing in HD, to get VP9 codec presumably better Q and bitrate on YT?
Well done!
Lovely footage, Oliver. Your videos have inspired me to bust out my old BMPCC OG. I need to pick up a lens for it and I’m seriously considering the LUMIX 14-42. Have you tried doing focus pulls with the little focus lever? I’m curious what that operation is like and how usable it actually is. Or if I’d just be better off going with a different lens that enables me to pull focus.
Thanks very much! Focus pulling with the 14-42mm lens is pretty tough so I tend just to lock focus before shooting. If you’re looking to change focus whilst shooting I’d recommend getting a different lens (always liked the look of the 12-35mm f2.8
I found this video absolutely amazing.
Thanks so much 🙏
Gorgeous
I still have mine. Its a wonderful little cam.
I’ve been using this camera for a few years. It’s never once had an issue, I’ve used it rigged up on all day productions and it never shut down running off external power. I use the LUMIX 12-35 2.8, and a Maitakon speedmaster 25mm .095.
Did you shoot 30p slowed to 24 in post?
I just bought mine online today. Cant wait to shoot some stuff with it
Enjoy!!
Well done 👏
love love love thank you so much for this!!!! question... what pistol grip do you use?
I got the Lumix G Vario 14-45 without the power zoom, its bulkier and I can't seem to get a smooth zoom with it, it seems to skip a bit. I may have to pick up the PZ version, it looks real nice!
Beautiful!
Thanks so much!!
Hey nice work ! Thinking of buying this Lens but how do you set the Lens Exposure ?
Hello Oliver, great review! Thanks for sharing.
I was just wondering how does it handle to the focusing with the lumix 14-42mm. Since there is no focus ring. Are there any constraints regarding the focusing with this lense?
Thanks in advance!
Lovely, and thanks for drawing attention to this gem. Exactly which model of LCD Viewfinder is that? I read the BMPCC has a 3.5" screen (mine is not here yet) and most of the viewfinders I am finding online from that brand say 3". I would love a similar setup.
Thanks Jon! It’s the Kinotehnik BMPCC OG
Loved the video! What about a video on the settings you use to shoot? Another good one is export settings on Davinci Resolve. Keep up with the content!
Thanks very much! Also noted on the video suggestions :)
Fantastic
Beautiful video friend.. I have this camera with an Olympus lens, but I see that I do not extract the best quality from the camera with this lens.. What other lens do you recommend, so that I can extract the maximum quality from the camera? Sigma? Lumix? or another?
dude the sound out of ur phone sheeesh !! wow how? msn how? now i want this original bmpcc
Thanks so much!
Nicely said! The misconception that capturing a worthwhile image should be easy or convenient never fails to amaze me. If you want something to look like a Gordon Willis film, you need a camera loader, a budget and a workflow that's borderline extinct. To capture something like Bradford Young you'll need K35's and an Alexa. What's so easy or convenient about that? This tiny camera blows most DSLRs out of the water in terms of image fidelity and cadence with very little work, all things considered. Your work is inspiring. I own two of these cameras and treasure them dearly.
Nice. Such a great image. I have the P4K and love it, but often I leave it at home 'cos it's so big (and unpocketable!)!
Well done
It is nice video mate. Unfortunately i can find this camera in my country. Do you have other old camera for video which have old vintage look. I want to purcase my very first camera
Hello ! I bought these nice camera on second hand two weeks ago and I must said I little confuse about functionality , I saw some videos about guys making Star Wars models video shoot with slider but they had the 4k model, I couldn't afford this one, I think I need to study about shooting. I bought with Zuiko 14-42 mm - Olympus and my "problem" for filming models is autofocus, I heard that it exist some zoom with autofocus... So emotional video, most of time basic is the best :)
Hi Oliver! Great video man! Question...what memory card do you use with it? Thank you
amazing
Hey man, this video definitely sold me on the G X 14-42, what an amazing lens for the price! One question I wanted to ask you is whether the lens' OIS works with your BMCC without issue? I've been reading some old forum posts which seem to say optical OIS wasn't working on the BMPCC when the lens was first released.
Also, does the lens hold focus when zooming in and out of objects, or is it a varifocal? Thank you!
Thanks very much for the comment! I have the most up to date firmware on the Bmpcc and the lens works fine, although I have heard of some people experiencing issues with it on older firmwares. I also haven’t had any issues with losing focus when zooming in or out!
Brilliant video mate, I am in the exact same position as you.
I was wondering.. have you found any good cases for this camera
Thanks very much! Unfortunately not. There was a Movcam cage on the market for a little while but it's been discontinuted :(
Really good video. The color grading is very film like. Some of the shots look like they're from the movie Children of Men. 3:18 is incredible. I wonder if there is a more fast lens that has good image stabilization
Thanks very much Mike!! I’ve always wanted to use the 12-45mm F2.8 or the canon 35mm F2 IS with a speedbooster.
@@oliverkeys3953 I definitely recommend the canon 35mm F2 IS. Great lens. Maybe try the panasonic 12-35 it has IS too, but it's a much bigger lens. also just want to make sure, was 3:18 filmed with the 14-42 too?
@@YY-py1rp that shot was actually taken on the 20mm F1.7 using the LCD Viewfinder to keep the camera steady
So I just bought this lens and am waiting on it... Can I keep the lens on infinity focus on wide and just shoot? I'd love a lens and set up like that for my outdoor based horror film where I'm doing an easy rig and bmpcc og set up.
Thanks for sharing. What is the exact type/description of the lens?
If I wanna act in front my own camera, could it work with the OG to act and film myself without the need of a camera with continuous auto focus? what lens and what distance should I keep if I choose to film with the OG and act out monologues in front of it?
please suggest!
am new to this camera...
have Gh3 but I like to test making short one person plays with the OG on my own, if even possible without anyone pulling focus for me?!
what do you think? tanks for getting back
I have the OG as well
But yeah may more rigged out.
But now I’m thinking about stripping it down, thank you for that
the quality is so pretty! what software do u use for colorgrading?
Can I get links to the grip and viewfinder you were recommending?
Where can I find that viewfinder for the Magic. What is the appropriate size for it ?
Its a punch in the face for G.A.S. people - love it 🥰
Hey Oliver, did you add any stabilization in post or are the shots purely handheld?
I've been using the Canon Powershot Zoom daily since it was released. The image quality is pretty horrible, but something about the form factor and 100mm (400mm also) focal length is addictive. Thinking about moving up in the world to one of these as my everyday commute cam. It should be pretty small with the Panasonic 20/1.7 pancake.
Are the codecs 10-bit in this?
Thanks for the comment, the codec is 12bit in the original Bmpcc. I’m sure you’re already aware but this only shoots video, so you wouldn’t be able to take stills on it
