My boy Daichi is getting some love!! It's about time! He hasn't really shone during the matches because some of the other Karasuno players are more flashy, but I am so happy he got some attention this match.
Also- SUGAAAAA!!! Love that we saw the lineup shake up a little bit, and even though I'm not a fan of Johzenji, I do really like their manager. She's a boss!

it’s honestly one of my favorite lines and it often gets overlooked. Basically saying karasuno can play so freely because they have a strong foundation aka a place to play
Narita and Kinoshita (number 7) are usually seen with Ennoshita. They were the quitters that came back. They will be getting more time in the spotlight now.

when 23:06 happened in the manga (comics), it became my desktop and phone screen for months. Daichi standing in front of a banner that says Simplicity and Fortitude had me on a chokehold 😭✋i absolutely adore and worship Daichi

There's actually 3 "ultimate bench players" in Karasuno. Other than Ennoshita, we have Narita and Kinoshita, also 2nd yrs. They're commonly seen in the bg reacting to Noya and Tanaka's antics, altho they might be easy to miss. If you recall the 2nd yrs' group study where Saeko was first introduced, all 5 of them were there.
Also yes! Hinata just has this contagious sunny energy that attracts people, and if you really focus on how he talks (especially for those who understand Japanese and don't need to rely on subs that aren't always accurate) you can tell how emotionally intelligent he is. It's no wonder he seems to make a friend from every team they play.
I'm glad you're able now to laugh at the scenes with Noya and Tanaka simping over Kiyoko. I COMPLETELY understand your initial feelings about it, but I think the reason fans are able to find it endearing instead of gross is because it is clear that they mean no harm AND that Kiyoko has **all** of the power in that situation.
I think the main thing is that they treat Kiyoko's beauty like a force of nature - Sun - it should be revered and marveled at a glance, they don't treat it like something to attain.
@@thesaintlymarco yeah and I think a contributing factor is that she’s still her own character and has at least several other character relationships and interactions outside of that one joke. It isn’t her whole character and doesn’t eat up all her screen time.
Honestly I have a soft spot for Jozenji cos they remind me of volleyball in high school (aka very scrappy) 🤣
I know some schools in Japan take volleyball very seriously, but Jozenji just being a group of friends that are athletic but don't have conventional technique or play style is more reminiscent of a typical team I'd play in a high school match. They have a very typical high-school mindset as well... 'we are getting smashed by their #10, what do we do?' 'GET MORE HYPED UP'
but I agree that a desperate kick save into a perfect 1 is a bit far-fetched lol
I know it's far-fetched but I feel with volleyball whatever could possibly happen will at some point lol. I've seen some ridiculous plays, and since we don't play at the professional level and not everyone is a 6 foot monster, some scrapiness definitely comes out.
I know the hit from the back line seems kind of ridiculous too but I've seen it done, hell I've done it myself (although the front row player executing it.....ehhhhh) but still...
One of my favorite things about Haikyuu is that any team could have been the focus. I love seeing Karasuno figure out the right balance of fundamental skills with risky ambition. Before these matches they've been ahead because of the risks they took, and now it's their foundations and practice shining.
i know some people don't like it when certain characters are disliked but honestly i love watching reactors DETEST characters. its so fun because Furudate wrote everyone with balance and character development so there's always going to be at least one "goddamit theyre right but i dont want to admit it 🤬" moment lolol. and its fucking hilarious. the more hatred there is, the more they get dragged kicking and screaming into complimenting the character 🤣 the more professional the reactor, the more they have the feeling they HAVE to at least recognize it happened. i get such a kick watching it happen. Your reactions are always unintentionally hilarious, Sarah! 😂 Thanks for sharing them with us!
Sarah has had a few nemeses, haha. Tsukishima -> Oikawa -> Terushima ... (I'm assuming there will be more. A particular setter with a strong regional accent comes to mind)
I will never be over how into the episodes you get. You're so invested. You remember people and plays from past episodes and the way you hold your breath sometimes when shit gets real. It's honestly amazing. There are some reactors on here where its so obvious that they aren't as invested in the show. I'm not gonna call them out and say that they don't care or like it, but they don't seem to even care enough to remember everyone or even try to remember everyone or things that happened in the past. I'm so excited for you to watch the rest of this match and the next match bc things get real.
I think a large part of it is that Sarah is a bookworm (based on her IG) but specifically the kind of bookworm that don't finish books in one sitting because they have a busy schedule. It's possible that she is very practiced in remembering names and plot points for the next read. It's my working hypothesis for her firm grasp on the material 😅✌️

Ennoshita, Kinoshita and Narita are second years (like Nishinoya and Tanaka), Ennoshita have a little more screen time, since he has more leadership over the team, but Narita is the team member that have least screentime. He did appear sometimes before btw, but is easy to forget since his appearences are so rare. So, Narita is a Second year and is a middle blocker like Tsukki and Hinata, thats why is expected that: if Hinata or Tsukki goes to the bench for some reason, Narita is the one going to the court. Kinoshita is a character that has always been there, but with very little screentime, he get more screentime on season 4.
I love all the shots that show Daichi in the foreground and johzenji's "Simplicity and Fortitude" banner in the background. The framing of those shots is clearly very intentional

Daichi is the embodiment of Simplicity and Fortitude. Its also comforting to know that you got someone on your team that operates within the basics at almost a master level.

you say things in this episode dont happen, but as someone who plays in open gyms with athletes from different sports, many times, lucky foot sets lead to an attack, or big swings from far away. it mainly happens because people go for it no matter what and sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt

I always thought it weird that they translate 'asobiba' as 'place to play' and not a 'playground'. It makes it confusing and hard to differentiate between playing around, like kids, and playing a sport. It takes away from the whole argument in this episode. Due to that many reactors missed the point in it. I'm so glad that Sarah was able to figure it out on her own. Also phrasing Misaki's quote as "in other to play you first need a playground" just sounds much better. And corresponds to grandpa Ukai saying "you need to be good to truly enjoy a game"
A great episode to highlight why Daichi is the *man*. Hinata & Kageyama wouldn't be able to go off the way they do without him (and the rest of the team of course) backing them up. They are such solid players that compliment each other well.

Ennoshita, Narita, and Kinnoshita are the benchwarmers. You won’t see much of Kinoshita until season 4 though.

It's fair to not notice that Narita was on the team. He's had probably the least focus of any of the players on the team so far, with the possible exception of Kinnoshita. But every team's got players like that, right? Someone's gotta keep the bench warm in case of emergencies.
Narita is quiet, but he does great in case of emergencies.
It was a bit weird for the guys to get so excited about just the word "spank." It got lost in translation, but the word the two managers said that garnered such a reaction was actually "butt."
Hana actually says “ketsu” which is ruder than Kiyoko’s “shiri”! Like saying “ass” instead of “butt” which is why everyone was so shocked. (Deletes rant about translation 😅)

Last month i watched my country national indoor volleyball team in SeaGames, they won gold but the so soo many failed serves really made me missed Kageyama and Asahi even Yamaguchi a lot... Just want to share story....

13:16 「いっ今のブロック…顔面だったぞ」➔ "That wasn't a block... That was his face". This is OK, but the actual line is more like "Th.. that block just now... it was (with his) face". Since She seemed to care about the phrasing, thought I'd just mention that in the original, they don't deny that it was a block.
23:10 「自由奔放さという点じゃ、条善寺はウチに勝るとも劣らない。だが…ウチはそれだけじゃあねぇぞぉっ？！」➔ ”Well, in the terms of wild and free, It's not guaranteed that Jouzenji would beat us. But... That's not all that we have". This should be more like " In terms of wild & free, Jouzenji is on par with us. But... that's not ALL that we have!!". Their line doesn't seem to "contradict" the 1st part with a "but" afterwards like in the original line.
26:23 「こいつらのケツ叩いてくれって」➔ "told me to give these guys a spanking..." Someone else already mentioned this in the comments, but the actual word everyone's reacting to is 「ケツ(ass)」. Though I feel the translators did a good job here, it's also a bit unfortunate that the "shocked/embarrassed" state of the boys isn't fully explained with the word "spank". The fact that the pretty & fairly well brought up type manager actually used 「ケツ」 instead of 「お尻(add on letter お for polite wording + butt ➔ kinda like "behind")」or even 「尻」is what got them all excited. LOL

karasuno has 5 second years Nishinoya, Tanaka,Ennoshita, Narita and kinoshita. The last three obviously do not play much, but if you pay attention are always present and also talk sometimes.

One of the nice things about this being a sports anime is the crowd chanting and clearly enunciating the school names. Except Seijoh, which I know is a nickname but that's what they chant so that's what I learned.

Its so cute watching you cheer and get upstet on every point, the fact that your feeling this series so much makes me really happy because I love animation since always, its my pasion and I aim to become and animator, and things like Haikyuu are getting people who are not used to watch animation except as kids and showing the true power that the medium has
It's pretty obvious at this point, but the word Terushima (Johzenji main guy/captain) uses for play has more of a play around/ have fun sort of meaning. With their team as see it as reckless but also as childish a bit

! bench players will be featured more prominently now that the main characters are fleshed out, Narita, Ennoshita, and Kinoshita were there the entire time but not focused on much or played with, so you kinda only see them in the small comedic slice of life type scenes.
Btw some of johzenji's players are from other sports, that's the reason why some of em do soccer kick and stuff.

I've played card games since I was a kid and can totally agree on the "having fun while playing" nowadays I play strictly for fun so if I lose its no big deal but getting your ass kicked is not fun at all. When I was younger I devouted a lot of time into practice and training sessions with players at and above my skill level and even won a few tournaments and a state championship. It's hard to take a competitive loss well.

Jozhenji is nontraditional but they don't really have the skill foundations to really be good. Later on you will meet a team who can improvise and do crazy things as well. But they actually have the skill to back it up.

On face-blocking, I guess there isn't really anything you can do to protect your nose, right? It seems like wearing protection (if it was bulky) would give an unfair advantage because you're taking up the extra inches of space. Still, taking a spike to the face is painful, even when it's not pros hitting at you.
The spinning back court hit from the beginning of the episode is something I attempted in a controlled environment and it is possible but very hard and inconsistent

Captain and vice captain cornered another team’s manager after a public inter-school event and tried to take her phone after she said no. They’re lucky Kiyoko and Hinata didn’t report them. Also she slapped Noya, and probably not for the first time.

Always wondered what exactly Joujenzi"s coach is there for. He offered zero instruction during the game even when his team was in obvious disarray.
He seems like a new coach. And it sounds like the changes he made regarding the 2 on 2 matches changed the team from being okay to being a seeded team. He also seems like a nice guy unlike some really mean coaches that I’ve seen IRL and in other shows. I don’t think he’s that bad but he’s also not the best.

Well, SPoilers! he is a Shiratorizawa graduate, he has a good relationship with Shiratorizawa coaches. He is obiviously passionate about the sport, and tries unorthodox methods and new approach, experimenting a lot. And, same as Ukai, because he seems to be young, he has more equal relationship with the players.
