  • NEW. Easter Monday 1985! Charles Foster introduces a very egg-citing (sigh!) edition of What's My Line? with Eamonn "I've got sweets in mine" Andrews.
Ahh celebrities bashing chocolate eggs in the name of entertainment, and people say TV has gone downhill today! Having said that... ITV have just commissioned "Celebrity Egg Bashing" into next Easter's schedule. I've also no idea why Angela Rippon, who would go on to host the show from 1988, is dressed as a jockey but there ya go...

One thing about the revivals of What's My Line is that towards the end of the first BBC series in the early 1960s Eamonn Andrews had an electronic score counter but the David Jacobs WML reverted to the flip over cards as did the last EA series and those after his death.
It is a possibility that David Nixon built the scoring devices EA used between 1951-63 as well as being a magician David Nixon was a bit of an inventor as well. Sadly Nixon had died before the last Eamonn Andrews revival of WML.

Eric Morecambe did six WML but was unwell at the time having been affected by the death on live ITV of his friend Tommy Cooper which Eric had been watching. Eamonn Andrews was unwell himself in the mid 1980s after losing his Irish based business interests such as the Dublin based EA Studios.

Many thanks for uploading this clip. Do you have a clip of the edition that Eric Morecambe appeared on? It was 26 March 1984.

Interesting in that Angela Rippon took over from Penelope Keith in the summer of 1988 after Penelope immediately took over from Eamonn Andrews following his death in November 1987.

Penelope felt she was not suited to hosting duties, to she left after a year and handed it over to Angela Rippon.

Elsewhere, you'll find a couple of "WML?" episodes Eamonn chaired on BBC Television in the 1950's, as well as him guest-hosting the US version in 1958 (he also appeared several times as a guest panelist on the US show as well).

@@byrd56CBS recorded the USA based What's My Lines but the BBC didn't apart from one or two. The logic was that like This Is Your Life once transmitted the genie was out of the bottle. The BBC, and later Thames TV recorded some TIYL as a stand by in the event of another "Danny Blanchflower" refusal to partake.
