  • Hallo and greeting from the northern port city of Hamburg, Germany where we we'll explore the top 10 things to do in Hamburg in this travel guide on a tight time constrained 24 hour visit! This is where Sam and I kicked off our recent trip across Germany, and while we only had one full day to explore, we hit the ground running ready to eat, see and do as much as possible. After a solid night's rest, we seemed to have kicked the jet lag, and we spent our day exploring the red-brick warehouses of Speicherstadt, touring the port by boat, eating our fill of pickled herring, taking part in a chocolate-making workshop, and a whole lot more. The following is our Hamburg travel guide and in this video we’re going to be sharing 10 things to do in Hamburg during your visit.
    🇩🇪 10 Things to do in Hamburg, Germany 🇩🇪
    1) Walk around Speicherstadt (City of Warehouses)
    2) Ride the harbour ferry
    3) Walk across the Old Elbe Tunnel
    4) Try Herring sandwiches at Brücke 10
    5) Go on a boat tour of the port
    6) Make your own chocolate at Chocoversum
    7) Have dinner at NENI
    8) City views from the Elbe Philharmonic Hall
    9) Visit Miniature Wunderland
    10) Stay at Altes Hafenamt
    And that is our travel guide to Hamburg in 24 hours! We hope this itinerary gave you a few ideas of the things you can see, eat and do during a short visit. If you have any other suggestions of things to do in Hamburg, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. And lastly, if you enjoyed this video, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and we’ll see you soon with more travels in Germany. Tschüss!
    This video was in partnership with the German National Tourist Office. We'll have several more coming out soon!

    Hi,
    As a resident of Hamburg I am always happy when it gets some attention online.
    Nevertheless, I would like to add that this vlog gives a misleading picture of Hamburg as you pretty much narrowed the city down to the elbe area (especially Hafencity and Speicherstadt). This mischaracterizes the cityscape and its atmosphere, as this is just a very small and rich part of the city. I encourage everybody to get a more balanced view of the different areas and judge for themself.
    Kind regards
    David

      Kann dich zwar verstehen, aber arg viel mehr kriegt man in 24 Stunden auch nicht unter :'D Vorallem, wenn man Hamburg nur durch Touri-Guides kennt. Ich empfehle jedem immer auch die Naturschutzgebiete, aber selbst ne Bekannte von mir, die n Bisschen länger schon hier lebt als ich, kennt nicht halb so viel von Hamburg wie ich. Die hatte ich im Frühling zu den Boberger Dünen geschleppt und sie war total verwundert, nie was von dem Ort gehört zu haben (und begeistert, wie schön es da war!).
      Viel von Hamburg sehen ist mit nur 24 Stunden Zeit einfach unmöglich. Als meine Mutter hier n paar Tage zu Besuch war konnte ich ihr auch längst nicht alles zeigen, was ich gern hätte. Hier gibts einfach viel zu viel zu sehen :D

      I second your opinion as an expatriate coming to live in Hamburg a month ago;
      Hafenctiy and Speicherstadt (which are awesome areas to visit), were also a small part of what I have seen so far, and I had the same impression when I was watching the video, I have realized that a lot of people like also St.Pauli area, and surely the Alster lake, Jungfernstieg is a pretty awesome area, especially for people who are into shopping and fashion lifestyle ... St Michael's church tower view, was even better than the view from the Elbphilharmonie with all my humble opinion surely...

    Hamburg was the very first city I visited in Europe back in 2000. My dad brought me with him on a business trip. I will never forget that trip. Germany was the country I had least expectations for. We were also going to go to France and Italy. In the end my favourite country was Germany. (Although I love all European countries) ;). We were lucky enough to have a local (our German broker) with us the entire time so we could visit small villages and really get the local experience. this was before Trip-advisor and Google translate haha! Can't wait to go back! :). Enjoy your trip!

    Here's an insider tip, visit the Blankenese's Treppenviertel. It's an old fishing village, which was built into the Elbhills in the west side of the city with small alley like staircases built between the old villas. The borough also wasn't attacked during WW2 so you can admire the old architecture. The best is having drink at the beach and watching the big cargo ships passing by.

    Enjoyed your video and seeing Hamburg. We visited Hamburg for first time January few years ago. As an ex German student I thought I knew Hamburg until I actually got there. I enjoyed your boat trip and the sights around the port. Any time we were in Germany curry wurst was always a must. Never tried those fish sandwiches you had. I am glad you made it to the Miniatur world. That was the highlight of my trip. I loved all the different scenes of the world and all the detail. I have no doubt you will see similar scenes as you journey to Bavaria. Germany is a fascinating country and so interesting to visit. The Germans do things so well but in their own way which for me can be a bit of a shock at times. The weather wasn’t looking so nice but then it’s the time of year and the north. Bavaria might be a bit different I suspect. Great to see your travels and your descriptions of everything.
    I really enjoyed your video. Thanks.

    When the "Elbtunnel" was built in the early 1900s the engineers used compressed air and airlocks for the caissons to keep the water out. At earlier engineering works the reasons and consequences of the so-called "caisson disease" were either not known or ignored. Workmen need decompression time like a diver who has been under water before they can be exposed to normal atmospheric pressure. The engineers in Hamburg knew about all that and a number of precautions were taken. It may sound cynical but the Elbtunnel had a deathtoll of "only" five: two men died from accidents and three from caisson-disease.

    I was in Hamburg in May 2020, and being an American, it reminded me of a more romantic Seattle, WA. The bread in Germany in general is from heaven, pretzels, beer. We went to the Elbphilharmonie, went to where they produced tea in Speicherstadt, and went through the Old Elbe Underwater Tunnel. We went to this insanely good hamburger place (good beer too), I forgot the name but I still have photos from it. I saw you guys did chocolate here, but if you have ever been to Cologne, go to the Schokoladenmuseum!

      Gracias Adrian! Sí, es impresionante como han construido en Hamburgo - me fascinó la zona del puerto y como se siguen extendiendo. Fue una visita corta pero la disfrutamos. Saludos!

    The city is best known for its famous harbor area, the Port of Hamburg. In addition to being a major transportation hub, Hamburg has become one of Europe's most important cultural and commercial centers, as well as a major tourist destination. ... Many of the most interesting things to do in Hamburg are in this port area.

      LOL, thanks. They're Merrell boots. I've had them a few years now so I don't know if the same model is still around.

    HAMBURG, what a good choice, it's a very interesting city, if you have time please visit the Schifferbörse restaurant and taste the Nordseekrabben. Very interesting the Elbtunnel build in 1911 under the Elbe river. Nice video and we look forward for the next one. Saludos desde Santiago, Chile.

    So excited that you are back on the road. We tried Neni when we were in Vienna. It was delicious. They are family-owned and have a few locations but hardly a chain. So good. Love trying a hamburger in Hamburg, Sam. Did something similar with Black Forest Cake when were down in the Black Forest. If you are heading that way add that to your list.

      But did the hamburger actually originate in Hamburg or is that a myth?

    • @callsigndd9ls897
      @callsigndd9ls897 Před 2 lety

      @@ptrs559 Yes, the Hamburger comes from Hamburg, but his name was not Hamburger in Hamburg. In the 19th centuries there were canteens for dock workers and seafarers in the Port of Hamburg. There you could buy a "Rundstück warm" (English: round piece warm) for little money. It was a bun with a flat meatball (in German: Frikadelle) in between and some spicy gravy. Emigrants or sailors brought the recipe with them to the USA. In an old American recipe book from the mid-19th century, a recipe for the Meat Ball called "Hamburger Steak" was found.
