- This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/...
TAS originally published on 2017-04-12
When a villain known only as Mr. Dark appears, trouble brews in Rayman's world. Mr. Dark captures the Toons - the source of light - and Rayman's friends. Without the light, evil creatures begin to roam, making the world unsafe for everyone. It's up to you, as Rayman, to free your friends and put an end to Mr. Dark's dastardly schemes!
Rayman is a side-scrolling platformer starring the titular Rayman, a big-nosed chap with no arms or legs. Rayman can jump and use his hair to hover for a short period of time. He can also attack by throwing his fists, or winding up his fists for a more powerful punch. He can occasionally find special powerups that grant him unlimited flying power, giving him the ability to navigate through tricky mazes.
scrimpeh ( tasvideos.org/... ) and Got4n ( tasvideos.org/... ) tear through this difficult game with a variety of glitches and physics exploits. For more details on how these glitches work, we recommend reading the authors' comments ( tasvideos.org/... ) for information about this run.
Note that any% is the same as 100% for this game, as Rayman requires all the Toons to unlock the final battle with Mr Dark.
"Now you can grab things with your fist."
(Rayman immediately rockets across the level)
"Now you can grab things with your fist... Oh god! What have I unleashed?!"

@@MystMagus LOGIC LOGIC NO : BAZOOKA!
Later in Rayman’s life:man I sucked back then
The joke is that he never realised his potential
I wonder what is it that makes you keep your momentum. Is it jumping or pressing down ? it certainly cant be left nor right

So good music
I like the dramatic music in the tarayzan level
So sad..
Insert depressing music
Ashlie Jordan also in picture city too
>Me playing this game years ago: "Gotta be careful not to get too close to the enemies"
> TAS: LoL Watch me dance around these enemies and spikes.

It's no exaggeration that this is one of the most satisfying videos on CZcams.
It is
Yes
Fucking cheat.
@@TheRojo387 You do realize this is a TAS?
@@StephenG994 lol guess he didn't
When Betilla said “YoUyouYouYouyouyOUyou”
I felt that.
When Rayman said no problem in the intro he really meant it 😁
LOL
57:20 is pure art
Mr Dark watching this: shit just take the protoon back
This is outrageous. This game has to rank top/close to #1 among the most difficult to complete platforming games of all time. Just breezing through it like this is an insult to our collective childhood anxiety! Seriously, incredibly impressive. Job well done!!! ✌️👌😎
Difficult?!
@@iancortescontreras6084 yeah, this game does not mess around in terms of being a Sisyphean task to overcome. Loads of frame perfect, pixel perfect stuff, hidden things you just gotta be in the know about, and the fact you need to 100% the game to actually get to fight the final boss and beat the game, not to mention the limited amount of lives and continues before you get a full game over. If you never learn to use save codes, that game over means start back from the first level. Love this game, but man is it close to impossible to beat without countless hours of practice.
@@ArtificialDjDAGX so you're telling me it's literally Sisyphean?!
I beat ps1 and pc. 100%
@@iancortescontreras6084 Yes, just like any good old arcade game.

I remember playing this when I was like 12-ish and I used to think the YEAH was like the coolest thing ever
The new lesson I learned
It was in Wipeout for PS1 as well.
*wink*
i love how the game is 3 years old friendly .. as if they could beat the second stage
First game I've ever played at 4. I finally beat the game at 22yo on 2019 lmao
This game stopped running when I was 6 at most, and I got to space mama.
The thing is about games back then, you never opened a game with the intension to beat it. You got past one level every month or so.
No game could possibly be as strong a part of your childhood if you didn't spend years on it.
@@ltloxa1159 hard disagree, i remember when i was a kid the furthest i got was big band land. I 100% it a couple years ago, but ive always thought games were to be completed. Rayman for me was one of the ones that eluded that as a child. Completing it was very satisfying and also frustrating as i did it farming lives from the mosquito level
Hmm, take no offense from the choice of word, but I guess you were "spoiled" compared to me when it comes to games. I didn't have any games ment for people my age until much older, so it had barely even crossed my mind that they acctually ended.
I almost pity you for missing out on that sort of experience, a video game seeming as infinite as a game of makebelieve.
@@ltloxa1159 i always tried to beat games as a kid
thats why i beat rayman at age 8 with some real anger issues
while almost everyone else i knew was like ''how did you get past this level''
i guess it was the feeling of being better then anybody else in my class that made me do it
feels good being the best tho ;>
Theres a lot of "wtf woah" moments throughout this video, but 35:52 took the cake lmao.
21:44 i love Rayman’s smug ahh face when he gets the cage as soon as it appears like “Bullseye”
51:44 the best moment of speedrunning's history
8 seconds to get 6 cages
57:20-57:55 would like to challenge that claim!
First minute of this enlisted so much nostalgia into me it made me feel extremely old and cry.
I'm only 24.. my childhood was this game, amongst many other games.. but this was definitely one of my favorite ps1 games.
Edit: This whole video hit me with an ocean of nostalgia....
Same here! 🥲
I'm almost 40, don't be sad my friend and enjoy this amazing game again!
I feel you bruh
I Feel Like Rayman Should Have More Recognition, Amazing TAS By the way
True, Rayman games have alot of effort put into them, with great atmosphere, soundtrack and just amazing gameplay in gneral
One of the best TASes out there!
Tas?
@@GGorsty Tool Assisted Speedrun
@@Glackum man can you explain the "super " jump?? Did he store the speed or what
@@Yagami_Light1992 "Superjumping
Superjumping is closely tied to clipping. If Rayman tries to walk while his feet are embedded within the ground, the game may try to put his feet on top of the ground, moving him upwards by several pixels in the process. By holding Up/Down on the right frame, Rayman may be launched out of the ground and do a superjump. There's several common ways to activate this:
Clip into the ground using a slope (as before), and walk back into the slope. The game will try to put Rayman back onto the slope, moving him upwards by up to 15 pixels. This only works if the slope tile itself sits right on top of a solid tile.
Jump into a slope from below. This only works if the ground isn't solid from below.
Use a sprite platform, such as a cloud, that gets partially embedded in the ground. Walk off the platform and into the ground.
Jump into an upward slope at high speeds. This is especially common with slippery surfaces, but can be achieved without.
It is important that Rayman only rises by less than one full tile (15 pixels or less) to activate a superjump. If he moves up by a full tile (16 pixels and more), he will not do a superjump. Instead, he will just be placed one tile into the air and then fall down again. This may still help reach some otherwise unreachable ledges.
Superjumps only work when the ground is made up of pass-through tiles, i.e. tiles that can be passed from below and the side. Slopes and slippery tiles are always considered pass-through tiles as well. Rayman will not be able to superjump out of solid tiles, which is why having a map viewer is so helpful, as it makes much easier to tell where superjumps can be performed.
The height of any jump including superjumps can be extended by holding X after activating it. Additionally, using the fist right at the beginning further increases the height of a superjump, so long as Rayman is not in his spinning animation. If he is, sometimes it's worthwhile to activate the helicopter before using the fist to cancel Rayman's spinning animation first."

Omg the sounds of nostalgia and childhood back when Ubisoft was my fav developer oh how times have changed
I remember playing this when I was a kid and being so bad at it. Ah... memories. Cool run.

We need a bass boosted version

Death Song Manipulation.. I love this tas!!!
GamerGee its shortened in a lot of the releases for some reason.
I know. It was soooo cool when I saw that.
@@herrabanani the PS1 and PC versions cut it off once the game has finished loading after your death, while the Saturn version lets the full track play

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool-assisted_speedrun
Tas is a well known speedrunner and holds many world records
How can a game with such a luscious, beautiful and complex sound track be so freaking evil to kids?
Thats because ubisoft back then never even hired playtesters.

My first game ever. Never managed to finish it too
me neither
Udpate: I did it, I finally beat this fucking game
Samee
it's so haaardd.
I just bought it on again on Gog for 6 bux.
I still can't beat it xD
Moral of the story; plums are the most useful objects in the Rayman universe.
this game came along with my first playstation back in 1998 gifted to me for my 6th birthday.Although i spent on it countless days i never finished it. Seeing this guy's work, beating the game, knowing every last detail brings the levels of joy and nostalgia at the same time over 9000. God dammit bro. You are a beast.
It's a tas they're not playing it
I got it 1997 for my 5th bday my father and i played weeks or even months till completion
With the sheer amount of infuriation this game gave me as a kid, where it's to the point that even now as an adult I've only beaten it with save states, I don't know if watching this TAS effortlessly nyoom through the game is incredibly satisfying or incredibly frustrating.
I'm not into speedrunning but I remember how difficult this game was. This is insane 😳 👏🏽
Perfect timing that hammer really hit the cage 34:35
I bet this is how the devs played the game which would explain the difficulty.
Tbh, Idk; for 1995, Idk how advanced AI programs were, or if TAS-type speedruns were ever possible. So honestly, who knows what UbiSoft were on.
If you've played this game, you know it's hard as hell
This game was ridiculously hard, seeing this person speed run this is insane
It's a tas. Tool assisted speedrun. So not 1 person playing it
No human could do that
God i freaking like this speedrun like... i’ve saw it almost a hundred Times and i still watch this video in my bed at night and i don’t know why
I wonder why some people dislike this video. Would like to hear their arguments just to understand.
This is why I watch TAS runs. I love all of the little flexes only an omnipotent player could do
This is probably the most impressive gaming speeding run I’ve seen
It's tool-assisted
This is by far the funniest TAS i ever seen. Very good job man
Love all the sounds nice n this game 10/10. Also I think it’s safe to say that ya more than good at this game. I enjoyed watching this play through of an old classic.
TAS of the year for sure, least one of them.
The first section of Space Mama's Crater was biblical.
This entire run is just one giant flex… and I love it.
Was watching the VoD of SGDQ-2021, and the runner highly recommended this TAS run, several times. I was not disappointed I took the time to check it out. :)
Probably played this game on PC when it first came out. It is really fun to see it cracked so wide open. lol Drove my buddy crazy that THIS was what I wanted to do when I came over. I mean, "there was a perfectly good console system upstairs with WWF Wrestling man! We could at least play at the same time! Why do we gotta hang around down in the den all day?"
But see, that's all he had, was a wresting game, and a couple football/basketball games. And since I never got to play them, he'd SMOKE me in any of those games. So there wasn't much point in playing if I couldn't even score a single Field Goal, let alone actually score a touchdown in an entire game. If we still could do vs. games now I'd smoke HIM in most platformers. But we'd be about fair game in a Smash-Bros match.
I've only been over to visit his family twice since co-vid started, and video games were/are NOT the priority over hanging out with them. His wife is incredibly smart and a kind soul, especially to my aging mother. Their daughter thinks of me as an uncle, and of my folks as a kind of third set of grandparents. It's kind of cute, really. Ahh. Memories. :)
PS: This game has a really well-defined and challenging layout. It's fun seeing you, the TASbot-ters, basically say, "Why thank you for your suggestion. Your input has been noted, and will be taken under advisement, as we continue on our way."

17:52 The game didn't like that he finished that level so easily.

Best part.
wow, and I thought that TASes of Mischief Makers looked crazy
Love this game
Walls are elevators, ground and gravity are suggestions, speed has no limit and Mr. Dark does not intended to mess with such a psychopath after seeing his henchmen get obliterated.
13/10
49:37 Shout out to the jumping beam!
that was at the same time beautiful and ridiculous
The only game I know that the soundtrack was pretty relaxing lol even the boss fights was even calming
You are literally the god of this game. I can't tell you how much this game irritated me as a kid and how many controllers I broke and you made it look easy.
I salute you

Mr Dark watched all this through his binoculars and still fought him 💀
Unlocks running ability.

I haven't even watched the 3rd level yet and my jaw is on the floor lol. Amazing.

The Observer when you have a bump, you crouch and throw your fist. As it’s coming back, you jump.
