It would be nice if you went to the L.A. County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens where they filmed some of the scenes from Fantasy Island. I remember going there as a kid.
Last time I was at Knotts was April 1988. I remember they had a pretty cool Dolphin Show in a large amphitheater, and a couple Coney Island like rides, one being a wooden gravity fed steeplechase ride (the soapbox racers), and a parachute ride.
On New Years Eve '92 I went to K Rave at Knotts. Raves were almost completely underground at the time but somehow this event went off. Park was packed with kids on ecstasy and LSD. They only did it once. Good times.
Gotta say, chief, happy to see your growth. I subbed when you had... I don't know, definitely less than 5000? Keep up the good work--we enjoy what you do! 🤘🏻
We had a couple school field trips to Knott's in the mid 80's. It was split between the Independence Hall and the actual theme park. As a history nerd, I loved all of it.
This must be an older visit, a few of the rides in Camp Snoopy have been torn down for a few weeks to make way for new rides. Good thing you got a video of the Timberline Twister since it's completely gone now.
Dang, I grew up in Mira Loma, but now reside in Texas, and we went to Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland a lot! I used to cruise Van Nuys in the late 70s with my older cousin. I love this channel, and it makes me so nostalgic for those days!
Steve Martin used to perform at the Birdcage Theater when he was young. Montzumas Revenge was the first looping coaster I ever rode. Scared the heck out of me back then.
Thanks for the memories Kurt My dad would always take me to either Magic Mountain or Knotts Berry Farm because he refused to go to Disneyland and most of the time it was Knotts. I loved the sky ride despite being scared of heights for one reason, you could not go on the ride alone so if you were by yourself they would have one of the employees ride with you and it was always a cute girl even if I was scared to death to talk to the girl. I am glad to see that many of the rides I remember are still there like the log ride, the calico mine train, the railroad, and the stagecoach ride. What I miss was the hobby store that used to be in the park since I loved model trains. Was planning to go to Knotts Berry Farm when we were in the area in March 2022 but my daughter ended up on crutches so it made no sense to go to the park. Maybe next time.
We used to spend two weeks in the summer hitting SoCal theme parks. Knots was always my favorite. I loved the parachute free fall ride and then head across the street to Fudruckers for a burger. Good times. Thanks for the ride down memory lane. I appreciate your hard work and great content. Looking forward to your next upload💯
@@ajbrown5247 lol what a coincidence. I kept the tradition going with my wife and kids until sadly California closed all Fudruckers just after the pandemic.
Funny Haunted Shack story - in the early '80s I went to Knott's one weekend for a friend's birthday, and the very next weekend my dad surprised me and my sibs with another visit to Knott's. On that 2nd visit, I remembered the spiel that the operator at the the Haunted Shack had given verbatim and proceeded to spoil every joke/gag, much to the delight and/or annoyance of everybody there. On the part of the operator it was most definitely annoyance. He decided to put an end to my heckling by placing me on the chair on the wall... And leaving me there. My dad ultimately had to come in looking for me as I think I was stuck up there for about 3 more shows.
I agree with you about Colossus! At the time if you rode Colossus you were a badass and every other roller coaster was a piece of cake. I do remember when Kingdom of the Dinasours was there. I don’t remember what it was like. The Walter Knott’s theatre was fabulous because they had some great concerts there, especially in the 80s. I remember Soap Box Racers. It was kind of a fun ride. I was a teenager back then so it was sort of a kiddie ride to me but still fun. And the Sky Jump was a parachute ride. It was often compared to the old Parachute jump at Coney Island and sponsored by Life Savors candy for the World’s Fair in 1939. You got into the gondola and it took you all the way to the top and then the drop you with the parachute opening up. Why they took the parachute ride out I don’t know, but the silky cabin in still there.
I grew up in So Cal, and my mom took me and my sister to Disneyland several times a year, and she would have us skip school in the process(what a great childhood). We would do Knotts from time to time, and to date myself, the last time I went, Montezuma, Soap Box Racers and Corkscrew were the only coasters they had. So I got to ride the Parachute Drop as well as the original Beary Tales, which was probably my favorite dark ride of all time. Glad to see they brought it back in some form, but nothing can top the original. It's crazy to see how much the park has changed over all the years.
Best YT channel love it!!! I went there in the late 80's and me and my friends "drop'd" for the very first time IYKYK, we were 16 ish and went straight to montazoomas revenge and it was the craziest thing I ever felt then we went on the Halloween ride and it broke down and I was loosing my mind and my friend had to hold me in the cart thing from jumping out then finally it went again then stood in line for like 45 min for the next ride and I had enough I was freaking out I turned around and said pardon me, excuse me pardon me back past 100's of people then made it out and puked and looked down and saw the tiny square paper with a peace sign or I thought it was from earlier. After that things were great it was just the first peak hour was a nightmare hahahahaha Sorry if this is inappropriate you can delete it but that was one of my crazy experiences there. Aloha 🤙
Wow had no idea what was is that building didn't even know you could go in I always thought is was just a facade. And that platform for the bridge I didn't that's what that was for I always just thought it was a lookout for the kids. I thing the mine train is my favorite ride. Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed the tour as we're just starting to get to know this park.
I just learned that Knott's recently removed Timberline Twister from the park since this video was taken. It's completely torn down now, and I was very sad to hear about that since it was one of the very first roller coasters I've been on.
That Speakeasy door is a remnant from when that entire area was themed as the "Roaring 20's." The restaurant right behind it used to be called "Barney's Beanery" and had a huge brown pot on the roof as a logo.
I was there in the late 50’s and my big memory was riding the stage coach and then towards the end, they staged a robbery with masked bandits. Made you get off, hold up your hands, then the good guys would come along and had a shoot out with blanks, of course. I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen or been in.
Nah, it was still around for a solid 11 years after that. They tore it down so they could make way for new attractions. That was still a tragic incident though.
Implicit memory a form of classic conditioning. You remembered that music place because our memories are so tied to hearing music. It is amazing. Listening to and performing music reactivates areas of the brain associated with memory, reasoning, speech, emotion, and reward.
@@80sLife Don't know, Man, that shadow was pretty good. The reason I stated that you should grow a mustache is because in one of your videos you had a five o'clock and from a distance (across the street) the angle of the light made it look like you had a light mustache and it fit your face (IMO).
I couldn't disagree more about Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. I loved that ride. I though it was so cool. Especially the time machine part of it. From the beginning where you went through an urban settting from the 1930s(maybe?) and then going into the scientist's lab to go through his experimental time machine. I loved those mirrors and spark effects each time there was a time jump. I mean maybe the actial dinosaur part weren't that cool but I enjoyed going through the ice age. And the best part was the arcade that was attached to the building. It was the only place I can remember playing 720 But I'm glad you included the haunted again and sosp box racers. I remember talking to the guy in jail once and then my cousin running up to me and saying that he found the guy that was speaking into the mic as the fit in jail. I think he was dressed like the guy you asked about the poster with that 80s mess written on it (I still want to know what that was about) and all I could think to ask him was "were you in the civil war" and I think he answered (while he was still trying to speak on the mic as the prisoner) was "no I was in the Vietnam war".
I actually agree with you about the Kingdom of the dinosaurs. I changed my opinion a bit while I was editing this video together. It was an iconic ride. And yes, Supreme Scream is still there. You can see it a few times in this video
I have season passes now with my 3 year old and he loves it, I grew up in Nor Cal and would come down to visit my grandma in East LA, my dad would take to Knotts and Disneyland. I saw Kids Incorporated perform live one time. It was epic lol my kid loves camp snoopy and I love soak city!
I got a long story about that place. Is a matter of fact 2! One is about when I got lost as a small child. Two was when i saw the band Fishbone there. Wàaaay back in the day 😅
It’s wild, a grew up in the Midwest in the 80’s and 90’s, spent a bunch of time visiting both Disney World and Cedar Point, and have now lived in Orlando for 25+ years and had annual park passes. But for all of that theme/amusement park history, I’ve only been to any of the parks out west just two brief times, and both have been to Disney. I’ve always wanted to visit Knott’s though, Magic Mountain, and Universal at the very least. Just hard to afford getting out there and doing all that for an east coast person. Knott’s though feels very akin to Cedar Fair and Six Flags parks though. Or Busch Gardens or Sea World. It may not be quite as polished or have the mega budget as Disney or Universal, but it still looks like fun. Every time though, I don’t want to pronounce the “berry” part of Knott’s Berry Farm separately. Just force of habit, but I always want to say it likes Knottsberry.
Two things: 1) do you do commentary as you are walking around, or do you shoot footage and then add commentary over it at home? And 2) the Mullet Moment was HILARIOUS! So unexpected! RIP PEE WEE ❤️
You forgot about the Haunted Shack, Mystery Lodge, and Hammerhead ride (where Hangtime now sits). I love going to Knotts and all the new stuff but i really miss those 3 things.
You still can! In pretty much the same spot as it was long ago. When Ghostrider was built they moved it near Boot Hill but in more recent years put it back in almost it’s original spot.
Knott's is still my favorite So. Cal. theme park. You can't beat the ticket price and Six Flags is too hot, far away, and has too much emphasis on huge rollercoasters. I'm too old for that. Disneyland is expensive for me, also, but I did go there recently after a twenty year gap in visits. I vaguely remember the old Knott's had a Jesus movie at the church near the Independence Hall across the street. It's not open anymore, but that's amazing that there was an actual Christian themed attraction at a secular theme park. Anyone else remember that?
Knots Berry farm was the best. I grew up and have been in SoCal my entire life. My mom didn’t care for Six Flags but she loved Knotts. Ipso facto we went to Knotts all the time. The stunt show was the greatest time ever. It was absolutely hilarious. I went to Knotts the first time in 1976 or somewhere in there.
Knott's has been drastically refurbished and cleaned up over the last 10 years or so. Other than being understandingly more expensive now, it is a far nicer park experience. I do wish they had left Mrs. Knott's Friend Chicken Restaurant the way it was. It is more like a Claim Jumper inside now, whereas it used to be very old-timey and quaint inside. I preferred that.
I spent my childhood going to Knotts Berry Farm. From the mid-1960s when it was free to enter until when I work there in the late 80s. I went to one Halloween hot and 1990 but I haven’t been back to knots since then it looks familiar yet different. Same old crowds local teenagers, The goodtime theater used to be the John Wayne theater when it opened and it was renowned for its water curtain. I also saw Elvira show here there’s 1 million little details throughout the park that’s what made it so charming.
Great content as always, @ 22.04 lmao I remember in 2003 going to knotts scary farm for Halloween a guy ✊ knocking one of those “ zombies” down just for the simply case of scaring him from behind 😂😂 the zombie asked the guy “ why did you hit me ?” And the guy said “ cus you scare the 💩 out of me “ .
I had forgotten about the heartbeat on the grave, and I remember Revolution at Magic Mountain was one of the first big loops, so when the corkscrew came out with the double Loop, it was a big deal
Knott's Scary Farm is still the undisputed king of Halloween attractions. The Christmas crafts and shows in Ghost Town are great too one Nov-Dec roll around.
A Knotts Berry Farm fanatic told me Montazumas Revenge is closed because they can’t get the parts to fix it. They used WW2 era technology for the launch system and it’s just not available. It can’t be torn down because it’s considered a national land mark.
That’s actually not true. It’s not a national landmark. It was given historical designation by a rollercoaster enthusiast group, but that was largely for the flywheel launch system that no longer exist. And it’s not being “fixed”. It’s being rebuilt with magnetic launch technology. Unfortunately the company that contracted to build it has had some issues, so there it sits not being worked on. It’s really sad what has become of my favorite ride there. :(
In retrospect, the Parachutes was a fairly crazy experience. You were in a wicker basket without any sort of restraints. I rode it with my Pops and I think we exceeded the 400lb cart limit.
Remember the boat that would go under the draw bridge of the train in camp snoopy? Also how about the fun house or something like that in camp snoopy I recally it being near the now truck ride and swing ride right next to it. Although, I seem to recall the jail being near the cemetary and not where it is right now so take my placement memory as a grain of salt. I do recall going on soap box racers for sure, I forgot about the entrance that you drive through but I do remember at the end it looked like you were going to crash and then you drop at the last second. I remember the old car ride too, but for some reason my memory blends it with a car ride from castle park in Riverside.
Bigfoot can still be seen on the Calico rapids ride. They filled in the large foot prints and removed the theme but you see Bigfoot in the cave at the end of the ride. If you blink you miss him. He’s hiding in the alcove in the cave. You see his hand grabbing a stilagtite!
Great video! One correction, the parachutes did NOT spin around, they simply went up and down on cables. I can remember when it was free to enter Ghost Town, this was early 1970s. They then built a wall around and actually had ticket booklets similar to Disneyland. Those didn't last long. Lol😂
Here is a Hardcore 80's moment for you 1984, Junior High pre - graduation party at Knotts. Other schools were also on the scene. And just away from the Log Jammer, the "Durranies" I was hanging with almost went to war with some other "Durranies", the issue was regarding the amount of John Taylor badges somebody had on their jacket. And, since the statute of limitations has passed , I can KISS & Tell : I made out with Jody M_____, on the Log Jammer.
There are 99 pictures and videos of me picking my nose, with a thumb up my butt, but not one of me playing GnR You Could Be Mine on the drums at age 12!! Parents were crappy, heartless photographers, back in the day. I don't know if it was the cost of film, or lack of learning references about photography. "Ohh, and, here's a lopsided picture of a garbage can in a mud puddle next to where I was meeting Superman and Rambo!" ~~80s kids
Wrong information on Gasoline Alley. It was NOT built in 1969. It was built in 1976 with the rest of the Roaring 20’s Airfield. That entire corner of the park was parking lot except for the train that cut through. After the success of the first phase of the Roaring 20’s which went from Bumper Cars to the Corkscrew roller coaster, they expanded into that parking lot with the Roaring 20’s airfield. Here was built the Parachutes/Sky Cabin, Motorcycle Chase and the Gasoline Alley cars along with the Red Barron before it moved to Camp Snoopy. Knott’s did have a a few different car rides long ago that you might be conflating things with. There was Tijuana Taxi in Fiesta Village, and outside the park there was antique cars you could drive on the Corner of Beach and Crescent. You could also fish there, but that was before my time.
The effects you did on the guy with the purple shirt cracked me up!🤣
Haha. Thank you for watching

In the Old West area, you could pan for gold too back in the 70's. Near the haunted shack. I believe the streets were even dirt in some places too.

I got a long story about that place. Is a matter of fact 2! One is about when I got lost as a small child. Two was when i saw the band Fishbone there. Wàaaay back in the day 😅
Haha. I wanna hear both
That talking prisoner is crazy!
No, I didn't. I talk about the shack and the lodge.
Back in the day you could pan for gold
Yep! I remember them having that still not too long ago. I'm not sure about now.
Same old crowds local teenagers,
The goodtime theater used to be the John Wayne theater when it opened and it was renowned for its water curtain. I also saw Elvira show here there’s 1 million little details throughout the park that’s what made it so charming.
Anybody else prefer Knott's over Disneyland? More affordable and provides the same if not more entertaining rides.
Beverly hills cop 3 was partially filmed at knotts berry farm in 1994 & the climactic scene was shot on kingdom of the dinosaurs. 😁🦖🦕
my mind raced to the accidents that happened here, esp perilous plunge @17:25
I remember that bridge. I threw up on it 😂
In retrospect, the Parachutes was a fairly crazy experience. You were in a wicker basket without any sort of restraints. I rode it with my Pops and I think we exceeded the 400lb cart limit.
It was a metal frame cage that was about chest high. The grating at the bottom was clear to see through.
@@davidbush131didn't they extend that cage because someone had jumped
@@originaldrifter5628 No. The cage was always high. They made no modifications and thankfully no one else jumped out.
They use to have the bears from the original Knotts Beaty Tales. It use to be considered a haunted shack type thing.
You didn't press the Speak Easy doorbell. It plays music from the 20s
The theatre opened as the John Wayne Theatre in 1971
Great video! One correction, the parachutes did NOT spin around, they simply went up and down on cables. I can remember when it was free to enter Ghost Town, this was early 1970s. They then built a wall around and actually had ticket booklets similar to Disneyland. Those didn't last long. Lol😂
It's changed a lot since 1980 when I was there. I loved Montezuma's revenge 😂
Kntts Berry Farm Snoopy Love my favorite one fan Big 💖💖💖💖💖💖⭐️🎶 you CZcams Channel 80 life video 💖💖💖😎
I had no idea I was staring at a boysenberry at the front gates until my son did a project on Walter Knott.
Seems the "Whoa" girl got into the wacky tabacky. 😂
I had a season pass in 88-89 (11/12 years old) I remember studio k being like a dance club and cloud 9 being where the goth kids hung out.
i miss the original knotts beary tales and the wacky soap box racers.
kurt, this is crucial.
Hahaha. Best comment of the day. Great stories. Thank you!
"Ohh, and, here's a lopsided picture of a garbage can in a mud puddle next to where I was meeting Superman and Rambo!" ~~80s kids
i near had a heart attack on that wooden coaster , i thought it looked fairly mild , all my arms and chest cramped up lol , near death experience
come to Canobie Lake Park in N.H.
The name of Independence Hall is Actually Carpenter hall and it in Philadelphia Pa
I wanna go here
