  • Grandmaster Ben Finegold looks at rooks. Rooks aren't commonly used in the opening, but are common in the endgame. And... aren't passed pawns fun?
    Adolf Schwarz vs Joseph Henry Blackburne, Vienna (1882)
    Carl Schlechter vs Jean Taubenhaus, Ostend (1905)
    Frank James Marshall vs Mikhail Chigorin, Barmen Meisterturnier A (1905)
    Jose Raul Capablanca vs Corzo / Blanco / Portela, Havana (1910)

    Holy cow, this is the most intuitive chess video I've ever watched. I guess the fact that he's taching kids helps.

    Whenever I watch these videos, I always think, "This is a lecture for children... Why are there adults in the audience?" But then I realized... It's probably their parents

    might not be my business, but I think most of the Chess Scholastics Centre of St. Louis coaches are great. They all get good training and is very logical in how they think about chess and present it.
    Some however are highly favoured but they all have something special to add to the learning experience.

    Man this guy is funny!!! In a humourous way. Why is it that fat people are normally full of jokes!

      Lol because fat people are dorky and dorky people are jokey, but I don't know. That is just an inference. Btw when I say dorky I don't mean it as a bad thing at all, I just mean it in a way to describe someone similar to a nerd.

    Finegold is funny, but he didn't even mention that White could defend at 16:24 by moving his rook up and down, still defending the d-pawn. If ...Rc3+ Rd3. Black could then trade rooks and try and get a passer on the Qside, while holding down White's d-pawn. So it's not really zugzwang.

    • @AndrewWCarson
      @AndrewWCarson Před rokem

      Rd1 Rc3+ Rd3 Rxd3+ Kxd3 is a losing king and pawn endgame for white.

      @@AndrewWCarson Right! Thanks--My post didn't make much sense anyway, b/c I said it wasn't zugzwang for white, and then showed how Black could force a win if White moved.
