segmented Speed run + Save/Reload option to get the right map settins and to respawn the XP shrine contently, It dosnt allways end up being the same shrine when you save and exit and such its normaly allways different. Thats proff this is a Segmented Run and such.

Epic run, but I'm wondering why he didn't use Volcano on the bosses (most effective Dru spell on large single item targets until they start to become fire immune). Also why didn't he use a merc with some decent low end gear like lets say Malice in a polearm for OW?
Random maps were so lucky for you that one could almost say maphack. What is the key combination for allocating 5 skill points with one click or did you edit the other clicks out, once could be a join in the 41 segments but so many times? What happened to the load screens between areas etc? I think it a good idea to add some time to the title of this vid!

I believed it to be simply a speed run recorded in a number of parts which were later joined together into one video, I did not realise that the segments could be repeated many times with only the best being submitted. That makes me wrong in general. No idea if he is better than me but he certainly is in a speedrun, mine are a lot longer but I do appreciate how much fun (not the best word for it) they can be. As for better as a Druid goes that must be true, I have always stayed away from that class. How the game works. The only person who can say that I do or do not know how the game works is me and those I have played alongside in PvE or beaten in PvP.
I liked the run, but I had one question.. How is it that you never hit a wrong turn in the random map gen? I've played D2 a lot and I've assumed certain areas mostly have pretty random generation while some characteristics remain constant, how is it you always knew where to go and always went straight to where you wanted?
My first guess is that there's a an explore, then an ult F4 and the route is put in the video. I could be wrong but I'm just not sure out of how much RNG there is that there's no wrong turn, unless this is a 1/100/000 run haha

Download D2SE, it's serves as many things, you can switch to any patch you want, and it gives you the ability to have all runewords on single player, including the ones on ladder multiplayer like fortitude. Also enables ubers. you can also use it to manage your various mods.
Ed Duke if the mods support d2se.. I still have multiple folders for different mods or settings because d2se doesn't support it, for instance flexible window, see patch 1.13c notes, so you can stretch the d2 window (not a resolution changer)
I didn't think much of it, when he went through the tower in the Black Marsh--'cos he seemed to have lucked into getting to the next floor with the "keep your right/left hand on the wall" rule of exploring mazes--but when he purposefully skipped through the -middle- of the map (ignoring both left and right paths) at the monastery levels and got straight to the wp/next floor, that's when I realised it was too lucky to be legit.
Nice run but he only did 1/3 of the game, he only did normal difficulty. Also he must have pre generated the map files and re used them (deleting the file that reveals it) because he knows exactly where to go for everything in each area. Plus some areas of the map were pre fgilled in like tal rasha's temple.

Seems like there are two ways to play this game; painstakingly bashing through every single enemy, picking up all the loot and leveling up until you eventually are strong enough to beat an area... or just run thru everything and gain tons of experience from the sheer level chasm between you and your road blocks XD
i haven't played in about 12 years, but if i recall correctly you just hold shift (it may have been control) and click the potions (or possibly right click).

Either maphack, or he copied his save files, ran through the map to figure out where things are, and then replaced the map-revealed files with the "original" unrevealed-map files. With the suspect exit after (actually before) imbuing his druid-pelt/helm, I'm thinking he did the same to get a desired set of stats on the resulting rare. Of course, that's probably in the bounds of speedrunning rules for this game. (Is it?)
Евгений Фёдорович I think to "save" the game. He logs out and saves hero files into another folder. If he dies, he copies them back and repeats. If he completes level slowly he repeats it. That is why video description says it is 41 segment speedrun - it not the actual game.
I thought something like this.. But then - this isn't a speed run.. For speed run he had need record all attempt, include recording of copying save game files at computer (but this will be a cheating speed run, with manipulate game files), or it must be only 1 attempt i.e. continous uncut video

IMO segmented is better because it is the best-case-scenario run. A SS runner may never reach a WR because of one part he considers difficult or downright random, and if DII is one thing, it is random.
He is doing it to reset the experience shrine (which no longer works in version 1.13). I currently am at 2hr 38min (trapsassin). Loved this game so long ago... nice to play it again.

Eh...it's impressive for what it is, but it doesn't feel as "real" as a single segment run. How many hours does it actually take to generate this run? 500? Over a period of a month? Kinda like saying a guy can make Big Macs faster than anyone else in the world 3 seconds at a time over a period of two weeks. Still took two weeks for me to get my burger even if you got the lettuce on there really fast...
It's so hard finding D2 runs that aren't save file cheesing. The game is online and has randomization for a reason, and that's how most people experience the game.

Sorry, but I find segment runs really dumb. Single runs may depend on luck, so you reset the entire game to beat the clock. Still better than cutting ur video, probably dying and all kind of shiat, just to look good after 25252525 tries with the same char. However, thats my opinion though.
Diablo 3 is the biggest let down, even after expansion. It's better than when it was released though, and I did get my money's worth, but sadly in 2 months time I can't find it fun anymore.
D3 gets boring too fast, I know no friend or popular streamer who played it over alonger period of time.., although it offers very smooth mechanics and fun for some time. It's just too simple there are no crafts or special upgrades where you can customize the result..you can basically do nothing and items define your build instead of you defining items or trading for items you want...there is no personal build in d3 let alone modding... In d2 I enjoy looking through possible runewords and ways to play a new build, still today, of course more rarely than back then... In D3 the worst thing is they do not listen to feedback. I put at least 100 hours into writing feedback and pointing at things that need to be improved, like +1 gem in the expansion or 2% knockback seriously xD and they did only take of *one* my suggestions (which was to improve monk-dash) - btw no the bad part is not the 100 hours (I enjoyed those) *but that they do not care and actually only want a simple-playstation game!* I can recommend MedianXL mod if you enjoyed that versatility of d2. As some other mods it adds alot of custom ways to improve your way of playing. . Lots of craftings, cheap useful runewords(!) and if you really play alot there are plenty challenges so you can't even get bored in the endgame. Especially the classes and builds differ.. By the way a total overhaul of d2 with much more action (so not for everybody). The maker of that mod Brother Laz (smart dude!) has moved to a more modern game as an item-designer: If you like pirates and MMO-style-dailies -> try Path of Exile! ps: There has been put incredibly much work to make your life with mods in D2 very easy, most people don't even know about it.. Like a Modmanager (d2se) that patches you to any version immediatelly and you can play any mod with seperate save files etc, High resolution (differnet ways like glider or d2multiRes) or just singlePlayer enhancements via PlugY which "simulates" battle.net (not a cheat) or just simple txt files that add the ladder-runewords to SP... Anyways have fun!

In single player, once you've been to an area, it will stay revealed on your mini map after you save/exit and return.

Terrible speed run. He fucking explored where to go before hand, alt+F4 out of the game, turn on fraps and load the saved game. Total bullshit.

It's just too simple there are no crafts or special upgrades where you can customize the result..you can basically do nothing and items define your build instead of you defining items or trading for items you want...there is no personal build in d3 let alone modding... In d2 I enjoy looking through possible runewords and ways to play a new build, still today, of course more rarely than back then... In D3 the worst thing is they do not listen to feedback. I put at least 100 hours into writing feedback and pointing at things that need to be improved, like +1 gem in the expansion or 2% knockback seriously xD and they did only take of *one* my suggestions (which was to improve monk-dash) - btw no the bad part is not the 100 hours (I enjoyed those) *but that they do not care and actually only want a simple-playstation game!*
I can recommend MedianXL mod if you enjoyed that versatility of d2. As some other mods it adds alot of custom ways to improve your way of playing. . Lots of craftings, cheap useful runewords(!) and if you really play alot there are plenty challenges so you can't even get bored in the endgame. Especially the classes and builds differ.. By the way a total overhaul of d2 with much more action (so not for everybody).
The maker of that mod Brother Laz (smart dude!) has moved to a more modern game as an item-designer:

ps: There has been put incredibly much work to make your life with mods in D2 very easy, most people don't even know about it.. Like a Modmanager (d2se) that patches you to any version immediatelly and you can play any mod with seperate save files etc, High resolution (differnet ways like glider or d2multiRes) or just singlePlayer enhancements via PlugY which "simulates" battle.net (not a cheat) or just simple txt files that add the ladder-runewords to SP...
