Canon Route + Final Story | Shadow the Hedgehog

- A playthrough of what (in my opinion at least) is the canonical run of Shadow the Hedgehog. Includes Eggman's speech during the final boss.
It's not foolproof, but I tried to make sure several things happen:
1. Cream is rescued by Shadow, as she mentions it in Expert Mode.
2. Eggman tells Shadow he's an android, as mentioned in the final boss.
3. The GUN Commander confronts Shadow on the ARK. No solid proof this happens, but it shows him starting to reconcile with Shadow in Expert Mode.
I went Wespolis + Digital Circuit Dark as he states in the intro cutscene/beginning of Westopolis that he had to trust Black Doom. (Plus I needed to get to Cryptic Castle anyway)
I also had to wait until the 9 minute mark in the Devil Doom fight for Eggman to say his confession.
I'm using a few of my own texture mods as well as a "no-gloss" mod on Shadow found here: gamebanana.com...
So according to this narrative the story goes like this.
-An amnesic Shadow agrees to side with Black Doom.
-Amy manages to make him see the error of his ways and convinces him to save Cream.
-Shadow redeems himself over the rest of the route but instead of fighting Black Doom he goes after Eggman in the end.
-Eggman gets defeated but is left alive while Shadow, with the 7 Chaos emeralds decides to stay neutral in the arc, the only place that he values at the moment.
You know what?
I actually like this, makes sense that Amy is the one that bring him back to the side of good like in SA2 and he would help Cream since it probably reminds him of Maria.
It also explains why Black Doom is on the winning side at the start of the final story since Shadow was helping him in the beggining and the reason as to why Eggman was powerless in the final Battle is because Shadow destroyed his bots.
Finally you have Shadow, who in the final story was still unsure on his true porpouse, something that wouldn't make sense if the good ending was the canon one.
Ok, somehow this route checks, for the most part at least.
But the mission that you must help Charmy is canon too. You must pick 5 secret disc , and at the end of the game the chaotix use the discs, and then the professor message starts to play.

I never realized Cream explicitly mentions that Shadow helped her out. Gah. That makes piecing together a 'canon' path more difficult. I do assume some of the dialog from there is canon and treat it as such due to the GUN Commander giving him a job offer that Shadow takes him up on.

I've seen some suggest she might be thanking Shadow for the events in The Last Way, but she seems really oddly broad here in her statement.
While Expert Mode's events might not be 'canon' (several areas Shadow visits physically cannot exist if this is happening after The Last Way), some of the dialog might? Again, the Commander's dialog lines up with Shadow later becoming an agent in 06.
I originally went with The Lion's Awakening being the canon route, but this seems more in line with what Expert Mode implies.

I mean to be fair Expert mode isn’t exactly canon considering the expert mode has Black doom (who should be dead now) talking to Shadow.
Expert Mode does lead to Shadow being a trained gun agent also the fact he could.have heard him in the afterlife

In Sonic Heroes Japanese when Rouge ask Omega about the shadow is the with them is the real, Omega says: For create copies is necessary the original and Rouge Smile.

@@lucaelmz1234 with the shadow solo game it’s confirmed that this is the real shadow from SA2 to heroes to shadow solo game and not an android. The only problem I have however is that this game seemingly made shadows character terrible and it gets worse from there

You can't get all canon events in one playthrough. The canon path for me, are far as where Shadow went is:
1. Westopolis - Dark
2. Digital Circuit - Hero (I think it makes sense for Shadow to help Rouge at least once)
3. Glyphic Canyon - Dark (Sky Troops is Glyphic Canyon in the sky)
4. Cryptic Castle - Hero
5. Prison Island - Hero
6. Mad Matrix - Hero
7. The Doom - Hero (flashback, so Shadow helps Maria)
8. Sky Troops - Neutral
9. Iron Jungle - Hero
10. Space Gadget - Hero (Shadow goes to the ARK with Sonic after IJ)
11. Cosmic Fall - Hero (with Dark boss)
Also, some stages are canon but were never touched by Shadow. Personally, I consider both of these to happen somewhere between 9 and 11:
1. Central City - Dark (mentioned by the president after The ARK's Dark mission)
2. The ARK - Dark (the president was escorted to GUN's most secure base before the last story so this only makes sense)
Makes me wish someone did a full playthrough of this version you listed. Even if they were to edit certain things into the video.
The canon is very fuzzy. Digital Circuit is canon, but it is impossible to say if Shadow was even in the stage, as the only thing the game tells us is that the black arms hacked themselves into the system. Glyphic Canyon and skytroops are a diffrent story, Shadow actually has to go dark in Glyphic for Sky Troops to even happen canonically, it is just diffrent in gameplay because of the structure the devs chose. And Skytroops dark also makes more sense because the next recap after that is about how Shadow repelled Eggman and is following him, which kinda doesn't work with him just kinda walking up to the guy's forces and not doing anything.
Not to mention that cryptic castle also has to happen directly after digital because Shadow is coming out of a random terminal when he is finding himself in the castle.
Edit: that technically means Shadow had to have been in the computer. Still doesn't clarity if he was in that one specific part of it where the stage is tho.

- The Doom (Hero) Black Doom mentions "Ritual" we heard about)
- Iron Jungle (Hero)(Remember that confession Eggman made in Last Story?)

Clearly the canon route is doing every single mission on every single level. Shadow kills every gun soldier and every black arms in westopolis, destroys the internet, revives the black arms temple and destroys it along with the eggman fleet, kills eggman several times, dunks on both sonic and black doom, and obtains all 70 chaos emeralds.
Wow this game would have been sorta cool if it really was just one canon storyline.
To make it even worse this game pretty much ruins shadows character in the sonic series.

@@OmegaChase1002 well it’s honestly simple. Shadow in SA2 and in heroes was much of a better character. Shadows purpose in SA2 was him getting revenge on humans for what they did to Maria on the space colony ark and he promised revenge to Maria. We then later found out that his memory was manipulated and what shadow actually promised her to give humans a second chance so they can be happy in life. This gives shadow an opportunity to have and save the world which is what he does. He pretty much sacrificed his life fulfilling his promise to Maria.

@@OmegaChase1002 in heroes shadow was released but rouge and omega were pretty much not sure if shadow was the real one or an Android since there are multiple shadows who are androids. But his character in that game was him enjoying the time he had while being in team dark he enjoyed being with omega and rouge. In shadows solo game shadow is worse of a character in that game. Shadow sees humans getting attacked by an alien invasion and shadow sees them as worthless and just doesn’t care. Uh hello what happened to fulfilling ur promise to Maria? Basically shadows character in his solo game was him being extremely edgy. Like him looking down upon sonic when he actually acknowledges sonic in SA2 and in the solo game he says he’s leaving his past behind but he’s already said that he’s leaving his past behind in heroes. Shadow solo doesn’t just fuck up his character but it does extra stuff that were already said previously

_Stage 1 Dark_
Okay... technically not _too_ far off, but a bit odd IMO. As long as Hero is chosen, it'll be fine.
_Stage 2 Dark_
Nope. This path makes it impossible to complete the Charmy (Neutral-3) and Espio (Semi-Hero 4) data-gathering missions, which are part of what goes into them activating Gerald's message in Last Story.
_Stage 6 Dark_
This part is accurate though. That detour is tiny enough one could realistically expect the Computer Room to be reached after, and the resulting ending is the only one that doesn't fight Sonic, fight Black Doom, or kill Eggman.
The Chaotix most likely would've completed their mission regardless of Shadow's help

@@leonardoalvarenga7572 as stated in the description in expert mode (which although the dialoge with black doom and maria is not canon for several reaosns theres no reason to assume the rest of the dialoge is non canon) cream mentions shadow saving her. Thus shadow needs to go to cryptic castle and judging by shadow saying he needs to trust black doom in the intro cutscene (and the fact that shadow gathering the chaos emeralds for seemingly the hell of it in the neutral route makes little sense) dark-dark is a more logical way then neutral-dark. As the commenter above said team chaltix could have still completed that mission without shadows help so although it is not fool proof i agree with the creator that this is the closest you can get. (Sorry for the wall of text in your inbox BTW. Also if you headcanon another route thats totally fine after all its not like sonic lore is important or consistent)
@@finnvaneekelen4966 In the Unitedstatesian dub Shadow does say in the intro that he trusts Black Doom. But in the original Japanese dub, he just says that collecting the emeralds is the answer to his questions, so it's most likely that he takes the neutral path in Westopolis.

Why not just ask rouge if he can temporarly borrow the chaos emeralds under goverment supervision or something? The japanese dub is probably still reffering to getting black doom the emeralds and even if its not shadow grabbing 2 of the emeralds going to the neutral stage 2 and then just going all like “oh shit maybe i should listen to this doom guy” and helping him launch the temple whould be really wierd so dark dark is still the more likley route to cryptic castle. Unless you want to argue he does not go to cryptic castle at all which on one hand fair but at 5e same time why whould this one line not be canon if it breaks no continuity? Btw i whould also be intrested in hearing what your idea is
There is no canon path. Last Story sums up a bunch of plot points from stages that can't be connected in a single playthrough. The 'six stages' format was purely a gameplay thing.

You claim in the description that Eggman tells Shadow that he's an android in the final boss dialogue, but that's not true. Eggman actually confirms Shadow's conversation with Rouge in Adventure 2 when he said his memories are "all he has" so it doesn't matter to him whether they're real or not. Eggman confirms that Shadow is the same Shadow we saw in Adventure 2 and Heroes, then tells him that he saved him from falling using one of his robots, and put him in the containment pod for recovery purposes, and dubbed Omega as security guard for the pod. I know this was most likely a mistake, not out of ignorance for continuity, but I just wanted to clear things up.
During the final boss, Eggman says "what I said before, about having created you", so he must have claimed that Shadow was an android sometime before the fight.
It's my bad for not being completely clear from what I wrote in the description, but I didn't mean that he called Shadow an android during the fight

Man, honestly I knew that this game had a bit of troubled development. I’m actually wondering if story wise they could’ve told it better. Honestly, I heard that the developers wanted to make this game dark and gritty aside from the rest of the Sonic games. And that it was originally supposed to be rated T for teen. I wonder if they would’ve continued to go that route it might’ve been a good game. And one thing that really turns me off about this game is that they’ve decided to use the same graphics & game engine they used in Sonic Heroes which I felt they could’ve used a better engine & made the graphics better. But yeah, like I said, they could’ve told the story of this game better. I hope that the new Sonic X Shadow Generations game would tell a much better story than this game. Let’s see what happens.
This games final sin was revealing what happened to shadow after adventure 2 in a secret dialogue hidden in the devil doom fight, literally the most important plot point in the game, and they hid it there...
I'd never made it that far, so it was still a mystery to me.
This was extremely helpful, also do I need to get the other endings as well or can I go straight to the final ending if I take this route? Just asking cause I keep getting lost with the routes of the story
This is more of a fan interpretation of what the true story would be, there's no gameplay effect for doing this.
To reach the final story you'll have to the end of each of the 5 paths, then beat both the hero and dark boss.
So basically, you'll have to do 10 different runs before you unlock the final story

Sooooo...... Eggman tells shadow Gerald created him twice? Why? I played the game not too long ago and didn't get a dialogue from the Egg Dealer boss and Eggman saying Gerald created shadow and now that I'm remembering it none of the bosses are canon atleast to my knowledge

If there is one thing I hate abt this shit is how it fucking ruins shadows character.

@@dawnstar9557 shadow in this game is extremely edgy. To the point where he doesn’t care abt humans to looking down upon sonic even tho he pretty much acknowledged him in SA2 and many other things. They also would go into his character that has already been shown like how he says he’s leaving his past behind tho he already said that in sonic heroes. Overall shadow has an edgy character in this game. Sum might say shadow has amnesia which is pretty much true after the events of SA2 but the game is pretty much the reason why ppl call him a vegeta clone in terms of edgyness. Shadow in sonic 06 is clearly a better character in that game since he enjoys being with rouge and omega and deeply cares abt them even as friends. It’s pretty clear that their really good friends since omega told the truth abt how he is the one that eliminates shadow in the future hearing this hurts shadow deeply cuz the someone he cares abt as a friend is the one that kills him. Shadow shows his character even better when he found himself that humanity betrayed him when Mephiles showed what the future was like for shadow. Shadow doesn’t mean to care and he would still protect humanity even after their betrayal towards shadow. This deeply shows shadows character cuz shadow made a promise to Maria that he would give everyone a second chance to be happy in life. Shadow clearly has not back down on that promise. But since the shadow solo game is like a main source the writers took it as it is and prob made him even worse as a character from the games to the future games and even in the idw comics is terrible.
@@JJGaming-mz7fc Shadow lost his moral compass after he lost his memories. His amnesia seems very similar to dissociative amnesia as it was due to PTSD. Furthermore his memories are too repressed to give real information, and because he was manipulated by black doom, his “edge” was toned up.
As for 06, it was because he already came to terms with his past, just like in SA2 he learned he was created to help people and fulfill Maria’s promise. So he was much less frustrated with hatred or contempt, and actually could focus on “instead of dwelling on Maria’s death, I could focus on the now and protect my current friends from getting hurt.” It’s even why he worked for GUN now, working for the government allowed him to have the tools and necessities to focus on his task at hand (thwarting mephiles).
Tl;dr If you read between the lines, Shadow’s edginess isn’t *that* contrived at least for ShTH05 and definitely was “fixed” in 06.
