Drawing A Portrait From A Photo Using Conceptualized Forms Combined With Comparative Measuring

- In this 3 and 1/2 hour demo, I am studying the simplified forms of the sphere, cylinder and box, which make up the head and face. I discussed this approach in my previous video “Shading a Portrait From Imagination”. Here, I am taking some of those concepts and, by measuring Rebecca’s head shape and facial features, I am able to modify those structures to fit her unique proportions. For any aspiring art student, I would encourage you to draw the “basic shapes” of the sphere, cylinder and box, to familiarize yourself with those forms and then apply that knowledge to a portrait drawn, either from imagination, a photograph or the live model. This “conceptual” construction can easily be combined with a more “perceptual” measuring technique. Each approach has equal value. Remember, when creating a representational image, It is not so much the technique that matters as much as the principles. I offer more in depth information on topics like this through my online courses which can be found on my website provided in the link below. Thank you for sharing! I used to doodle when I was younger, but I'm trying to learn how to draw/paint portraits! Very helpful video

Magnifique 👍👍
Excellent tutorial,,thank you,,subbed n liked 👍
Thank you!
Thank you.
Great demo and breakdown of the process you used 👍Was interesting to see the brush used for smoothing out the charcoal in certain halftone areas.
Thank you Rob!!
congratulation, you are a little dragon! ;)
too good
Very very PROFF🇩🇰👍🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰😉
This video is the only one that taught me how to redraw faces accurately.
great portrait and technique indeed, just one comment, looks like the mouth in the drawing is a bit more horizontal than the one in the photo.
Sir can you tell which pencil you use and paper
How do you measure angles
can u help us how to determined the size of an eye. thats my personal problm everytime i draw. sometimes it gets bigger
Realising it's to big is half of the solution. Finishing a painting is mostly a process of correcting the mistakes.. over time the mistakes become less and less. Start with lighter/less saturated colors and be patient
I'm interested in the tool you use for measuring
...lol me too...I even googled it but was unsuccessful...I think I can pull it off using two bbq skewers glued together 😁
Is it a soft charcoal you are using?
הדגמה טובה מאוד תודה
Do i need to study skulls before executing portrait sessions
very helpful, but how would i use this method if i want to draw on a larger scale?
kings2kongs you can use a proportional divider commonly known as a prospek . With it you can take measurements off the reference just as the artist is doing and enlarge them as much as 300% it is a very handy tool
@@jeffhreid thanks
Or you can use comparative measurement to get the proportions correct. In other words find 2 distances that are the same on the source photo and measure that on your drawing.
good video, but i dunno why you skipped some details drawing in video, such as the left eye.
The white caption can not be seen
Mucha sombra en los pómulos, es más tenue cerca de la nariz, se le ve muy plano, muy pronunciado esas sombras de los pómulos, mira mucho a distancia mientras elaboras
your gesturing with the charcoal is making me nervous; I'm afraid you'll mar that beautiful drawing.
Her left eye is more severe than what you draw.. But likeness is almost perfect
Good video and very helpful. The breathing noise in the background irritated me. Play some music instead. Like I said I enjoy the content and effort
It's a good demo but in my opinion, nothing is learned from drawing from photo. A photo of someone is nothing like how the person would look like in real life. I'm not going to go into a full list of why this is so but focal length of the lens and it's effect on how the face appears is one big one. It is literally impossible to get someone to look in photo as they do in real life even with the most expensive cameras, lenses, and lighting.
