We need something that could be the equivalent of not just New Hollywood, but the Italian neorealist movement, and New German Cinema in this chaotic period of history. Films that don't avoid showing the pain we're going through, mentally, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. In multitudes of genres, a thing like that could make the world better. And I am going to watch The Merchant of Four Seasons this month, along with other Fassbinder films such as Love is Colder than Death, World on a Wire, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, and Eight Hours Don't Make a Day. I also enjoy Wim Wenders' cinematic poetry and Herzog's complete insanity in his art.
1000% agree. It's not going to happen from within the system though. But we all have little movie cameras in our pockets now and if we start using them for more than cat videos and selfies then maybe one of us will be the next Fassbinder or Herzog.
It feels like an anti BBC / freeview / Hollywood act to watch this now; yet I'm not surprised it was made by the BBC that existed then. So right at 30 min mark😏😱 When was it made 1976 ? Thank you.
its hard to imagine Fassbinder directing such small films once you see Welt am Draht which is my favorite movie of all times
Werner Herzog is my spirit animal

And by the way, I should think about looking at Schlondorff.

You never know... right? Things change in technology, cinema, business, and politics.
In the words of William Goldman, "Nobody knows anything."

Danke! Grazie mille! Ich liebe deutsche Filme. Ich möchte von amerikanischen Kultur frei zu sein. Hollywood ist scheisse.
