  • Direct drive washing machines made by Whirlpool which includes Kenmore and Roper are pretty easy to work on. Many people think it would be too hard to take apart to get to the motor but it isn't. This video shows how easy it can be to remove the cabinet so you can make your own repairs.

Thank you very much! Last week I had to take it apart to replace the transmission coupler, and re-wire the lid switch that someone had bi passed, but when putting the cabinet back together, I could not figure out how it went. I couldn't take it anymore, as it was coming apart when I moved the machine. This short video you made helped me to line it up with the metal lip in the front, and sides, etc (plus it is rusty, and dirty down there making it harder to figure out) so thank you! Even something simple like this is a huge help!!

Great video! I just replaced a Washer Water Inlet Valve on a Whirlpool washing machine that was exactly like the one in this video...without the
little side covers over the two screws on the side. I didn't have to remove the cabinet, I just took the top loose and was able to get to the part I replaced.
Everything took about 30 minutes. This video was perfect! 🙂

This is a very helpful video. Thank you. I’ll add that some Whirlpool washers do not have removable trim capping the ends of the control panel. Instead, you must insert a putty knife into the gap on either side to release the spring clips that allow the control panel to flip back.

There are several methods of anchoring the control console to the machine top on direct-drive models. Some Kenmore models have the screws beneath those removable trim pieces as shown, some don't have the screws exposed without trim pieces. Another method is screws at the *rear* corners of the console, with little tabs that flex back when a screwdriver is put in place, flex forward to hold the retracted screw. And the spring clips.

Thank you so very much. You probably saved me $350-400 I too was struggling putting it back on. Of course its a pretty old machine and the frame is a bit dirty and rusted, but I got it back on. Quite honestly I wouldn't mind paying $75-100 for a repair. I don't understand how they justify charging so much for parts and labor. I wish I made $75/ hr and charged 300% mark up on parts.
