Thats the exact thing that got me to click. Its a Tony Franklin Artist Series PJ Fretted model. I have one of the later issues of it but in the classis fretless style. John could make any bass sound like a lute that an angel granted him. But a P Bass has that smooth and refined sound especially with his signature chorus and compression effects setup.
i was 100% certain i heard/read somewhere that the bass on Lonely In Your Nightmare was recorded ALL with a FRETTED bass guitar, but now i can't find where i got that info. i did find in John Taylor's autobiography that he says he used a fretted & a fretless bass (both probably Aria Pros) on this song. AND i read him talking about this live performance, it looks like it might be a fretted P Bass, but it is actually a fretless.
Very nice that they did the song in its full length glory and not one of the butchered edits, especially the original LP edit. Certainly wish that Roger would have added his magnificent snare fills and high hat work over the end choruses though, as they are what drive the song along (particularly in the Kershenbaum remix where they sound amazing).
Good point. I only look for the Kerschenbaum remixes with 'Rio' as they are the only vrrsions I can listen to. I took back the cd re-releases of Rio cause they wete the original versions. I had an old casette of Rio so I just made my own cd out of that one.

Daniel Stans No offense to Dom, who is a competent guitar player, but he has no edge to his playing whatsoever...ever. He's always average as you point out here. Andy and Warren were each great musicians, but just as importantly they were stars with stage presence and a definite style and edge to their playing. Dom's playing & tone is flat (not notewise, but figuratively) and never stands out. Probably just the way Nick likes the guitar to be.
couldn't agree more especially on bates feeling towards the guitar in the DD set up. If you listen to the Astronaut album you can here some great guitar sounds front Andy especially on point of no return, one of these days, astronaut and what happens tomorrow. Andy at his best.

John started the band. It's not Andy's, it's John's band. Therefore they get to keep the name DD. Four of the 5 bandmates from the original 5 are in it. So they have continued. At one time they had three of the 5 members and two of the five and they still continued now almost 20 years after Andy was gone a second time!

Absolutely. Seems NR finally got his wish regarding the DD sound. Without AT, it's never quite complete.
