  • In the pursuit of learning how to ride a mountain bike, I check out Bendix Woods MTB trail located in New Carisle, IN. Am I going to wreck on every trail? I guess we will find out. So far, all signs point to "Yes."

I went out riding on a mountain bike trail this morning. I had a blast. I had a lot more roots in the trails than it appears you have on your trails, so far. They are a lot more mountainous at time too. However, I haven't quite got the knack for seeking out trees to hug that you do, but maybe in time I can get there. I call my bike Aventon Aventure. Everyone seems to know which bike I'm talking about with that name. They know it is my ebike and not my standard bike, Raleigh. It doesn't get confused with my car named Ford Fusion, nor my dog named Dog.
So I found a new trail on my way back and stopped to survey it, however I don't think it is your type of MTB trail. I found some people there that said the trail is fairly wide and not extremely likely that I would bump my handle bars into a tree. I hope to try it out soon. There are 5 trails there that add up to about 34.7 miles, so a place to keep me busy for a few days without ever seeing the same spot twice.
Once again an excellent video. Keep them coming. Thanks!

hahaha. Thanks for the comment. I hope me searching out trees to hug is just a temporary thing.

Trailforks is a great app to find and map trails. They have good insights on condition, difficulty, and local MTB club affiliations. It makes it a great place to discover and get involved with local MTB groups!

It's so funny to me that the ground of your trail has so many fewer roots and rocks than in my neck of the woods, but at the same time, you have so many more trees so close to the track! It's especially funny to me since my local trails are also in the woods; our tree cover is thicker than what you have there but there are a lot fewer handlebar killers on mine, lol. Great video btw, well edited and pretty quality trail footage!

I've been on some that have way more roots so stick around and I am sure you will see give it a try! As I get better I do plan on hitting various areas that I might have to travel to (various states) to see how those trails are.

780mm is too wide for our Midwest trails. I cut mine down to 700 (which not long ago was considered “wide”) and it feels great. Heck my non powered mtb bars are 665mm. Those wide bars are for high speed bombing down mountains out west. Wide bars slow the steering and make the bike more controlled at high speeds. Enjoying your videos!

Thanks for this info. I am still playing with fine tuning this bike. I can always take more off as I get to know this bike more.

My current bike I call The Workhorse. I ask it to do a lot of things and it's does it. Doesn't breakdown or anything just keeps going.

Nice video. Great riding trail. My BIG question, is what are the negatives(maintenance cost) of the Yamaha motor? Is it through Yamaha or only Giant, as far as any warranty is concerned. How rapid does the battery drain on steep climbs? How awkward is the bike, to carry, in rugged(rocky) terrain? A few thousand, for a bicycle, is no small amount, unless your a rich CZcams channel owner, that says a few grand for a bike, is a...bargain. Which is sadly hillarious. How's it handle/last in ninety degree outdoor heat? How weatherproof? How reliable is the suspension for light XC trails, fireroads, and tree-root infested trails? All we hear in every e-bike video, are the positives, like a promotional commercial. The negatives must be...classified material on CZcams.

I don't know the answers to any of your questions. I have had zero maintenance on this bike. Everything I have thrown at it, it handles with no issues. Funny... I asked Giant what the IPX Rating is on this bike and they wouldn't tell me. I haven't ridden it in 90 degree heat. Not a rich CZcamsr, just a retired guy with disposable income. This bike performed excellent in root infested trails. I hit 4 different mtb trails with my son. He rode the Aventon Ramblas and I rode my Giant. I almost have that video finished. I am sure in time, I might be able to answer more of those questions, but for now, all I do is ride it. I haven't even done a real review on it yet... and I probably won't.

I'd be hitting trees left & right if I rode our local trails on an e-bike and the extra speed. They aren't allowed on most of our trails. Hopefully, that changes in the future. I don't know about any ideas for names. If it gets you into trouble, maybe Christine.

Christine is funny. I remember the movie. It didn't end well.
