  • Is there something the majority of your fandom seems to hate, and you don't understand why? Is it a character who gets bashed for no reason? A ship people don't like but you think is fine? A certain storyline people would rather forget, but you enjoy? Here are some answers from Reddit, and I'd love to hear your own examples in the comments!

I really wish “queerbaiting” wasn’t thrown around as much as it is. It’s an actual thing that happens sometimes, but the meaning has become so diluted because EVERYONE thinks EVERYTHING is queerbaiting. Also people think that real people can somehow queerbait which just…isn’t how it works

The avatar fandom is so rancid when it comes to katara. Ok listen- my mom died. Talking about grief saved my life. It makes me so angry when people make fun of her for talking about her mom’s murder, and treasuring the one thing she has left of her. The cast has their problems and deals with them as such. Yes, soka doesn’t talk about his grief as much. But some people deal with things by internalizing them. Gosh. People don’t give zuko and aang half the crap they give katara and it reeks of sexism. Grrr it makes me mad

LITERALLY THIS OMG Katara hate is so undeserved, yes she's sensitive, yes she's bossy, THAT'S WHAT MAKES HER A GOOD CHARACTER. Katara is imo the best written female character in atla (closely followed by Azula) cuz they actually show both her strengths and weaknesses as well as the consequences of her own bad choices. rather than Toph who - although flawed, things always seem to just work out for her and Mai/Ty lee who don't get much development or character building throughout the story.
Don't even get me started on the people who downplay her fighting skills. she's Master Katara for a reason

    • @small_and_dangerous2068
      @small_and_dangerous2068 Před 2 měsíci +52

Also I feel like there is an over emphasis on “Katara won’t stop talking about her dead mom” when in reality, she honestly…doesn’t? She brings it up in situations where it’s applicable but so many people act like she talks to every character like: “Hi my name is Katara and my mother was murdered in a fire nation raid and I’m so sad about it and I just thought you should know before we continue.”
It’s literally never brought up so much that I feel like it’s even a character beat that she gets stuck on for too long. We get moments where we see it and her necklace is always a reminder that she loves her mom and wants to keep a piece of her with her. But she doesn’t shove her trauma down the throats of other characters and it honestly all boils down to a really great ending to that arc in her character in The Southern Raiders

A large portion of the Zelda fandom hates Revali simply because of the fact that he is rude. I find this unfair because he’s one of the most fleshed out, three-dimensional characters in BotW and even the entire Zelda series. Urbosa is royalty with lightning powers, Daruk has an impenetrable shield ability, Mipha is a princess, and Zelda and Link are the chosen ones. Revali literally had to climb to his position through his own efforts as opposed to just being born with status and power. From an objective standpoint, Revali is the most impressive out of all of them through his efforts alone. Yeah sure, he's a pompous jerk, but who wouldn't be if they found out that all their hard worked earned them was a position of playing second fiddle to some random child who was predetermined to be the main character? She’s just a kid and for some reason the fandom thinks she should be acting more mature and reasonable at her age and if you think about it the fandom also brushes aside so much of Dippers own selfishness and isn’t questioned at all, like any time he tries to get with Wendy and obsessing over her in the series, that pisses me off to no end. Even the current fandom I’m in sometimes gives one specific character shit for making human mistakes (while yes some of those mistakes were his fault and he still needs to make up for them) and not questioning what other characters did when they did the exact same thing. I no longer think this way and acknowledge that Mabel and Dipper were *both* immature and selfish. The episode where Dipper keeps changing the time to try and impress Wendy for example. It was selfish, not only because he hurt Mabel doing it but because he was treating Wendy as a thing to be won rather than her own person who was also too old for him.
There are other examples. They are both children, the selfishness and immaturity are there because of that.

There's nothing wrong with straight pairings, so hating on someone for a straight ship,(especially if those character's most popular ships are gay) is unnecessary if those characters have unconfirmed sexualities.
I apologise if you are a sane person who means well, but I've come to not trust this phrasing. I've heard this type of language used a lot for characters that don't have confirmed sexualities. It's surprisingly rare for a character to actually be confirmed straight. Society in general has this "straight until proven otherwise" attitude, which means if a character is straight, they often don't say it. They want it to be implied because they haven't explicitly said the character is otherwise. But life is not a court of law. "Straight until proven otherwise" is not how the world works.
Hate on perfectly fine straight ships is bad and unnecessary, but usually people who say this assume every character ever is cishet unless they are obviously, cannonically, in your face, not cishet.

The filler. In an anime with geyser nosebleeds and slapstick comedy, they think the filler is "too goofy".
For large parts of the series literally nothing is happening, so the filler gives a desperately-needed reprieve from the melodramatic emotional slog it becomes at certain points, as well as providing characterization for many characters who otherwise have almost no screentime. A lot of character traits introduced in filler end up later appearing in the manga so I don't know how people can say the filler is worthless/noncanonical.

I think atla does filler so well. Episodes that seem pointless are actually really important for characters to get development and for the group to feel like actual friends. That’s why the live action feels stiff and the chemistry is low, it’s bc they aren’t given any time to just relax and talk.

WARNING FOR A BIT OF A RANT (BSD)
11:04 my only issue with this defense of Mori is the fact he IS openly attracted to little girls, to the point where other characters acknowledge his pedophile behavior. It’s perfectly okay to like a character who is evil, and does bad things. In fact it’s mainly younger fans (18 year olds and under) who ignore Dazai, Akutagawa, and Chuuya’s wrong doings. Most of the fandom embraces those aspects of the characters as it furthers the complexity of them (especially manga readers). The issue is when Mori fans ignore or defend the fact he’s a pedophile instead of acknowledging his problems. I myself think is a very good character, and I hate him.
You can like a character and ACKNOWLEDGE that they are in the wrong. This argument that Elise is an extension of himself is defending against a confirmed fact about the series. Mori is a pedo.
A lot of BSD fans online are younger, and don’t understand that they don’t have to complain under every piece of fanart, or every fanfic that portrays him as good, that “why would you like him, he’s a pedo/creep”.
It sucks to see hate towards a character you like, while those same people praise characters that are morally wrong and excuse their crimes.
But arguing against him being bad in the ways he is, makes you just like them!

Agreed! I’m not a Mori fan, but he’s a good villain that fulfills his role in the story well. I see why people like him and that’s totally okay. On the other hand, trying to deny his abuse and pedophilia, both extremely explicit parts of his character, is not only silly but dangerous. It’s okay to like a fictional character who is an awful person, it’s not okay to defend/deny their actions.

    • @Mothpuff
      @Mothpuff Před 2 měsíci +41

I think a lot of the bsd fandom needs to learn that they can like a character while accepting that they are morally wrong and should not be defended. Mori is an extremely interesting character, and he's a very well written villain, and it's perfectly okay to like him for those reasons. "I like this character" and "this character is in the right" are two different statements that don't have to be connected. A lot of Mori fans and Mori haters both have this problem.

It's one thing I felt TOTK did better, because she's a more active participant in the story who did a lot of planning and came up with clever solutions to difficult problems so that by the time Link shows up, he feels like just one component in a larger system rather than the hero who swoops in to save everyone.

In the Minecraft community (to clarify specifically the corners related to the game itself, this isn't related to MCYT fandoms afaik), items that exist in the game purely for aesthetic purposes. I'm a builder and I love items that exist just to look cool bcus, well, I can use it in my builds! But so many people say that stuff is "pointless" bcus it doesn't directly contribute to getting better gear or fighting bosses... neither of which are even the point of the game to me
It's fine if you don't like the items in question for that reason, it's fine if your main goal in Minecraft is to get totally stacked with gear and you don't care about the aesthetics, it's fine if you're a minmaxer or a PVPer or what have you. If that makes you happy, good for you, genuinely! The whole point of Minecraft is that it's a sandbox game and that you can do whatever you want and I'm glad people find joy in making it challenging or grinding for gear. But I'm sick of people pretending like that's the only valid way to play *a literal sandbox survival game*
What makes me happy when playing Minecraft is using it as a sort of art form (and I hope this doesn't make me sound pretentious; I firmly believe that any expression of human creativity can be considered "art", traditional or not) and watching the world come alive as I build up and up and up in it. And every time I see something new come out that's really cool aesthetically, and I get really excited, and I go online to see if there's any other builders talking about how to incorporate it into their builds, that interpretation of the game feels completely invalidated as I see fans start bashing the crap out of the item in question, anyone who likes it, and any dev who worked on it. I've literally had to minimize how much I interact with the Minecraft fandom outside of the little corner of building CZcamsrs I've found myself in as a result, which I say at the risk of sounding like a "sensitive snowflake who can't take criticism," but whatever, it's true
Idk it just feels like the Minecraft community has become super toxic and hypercompetitive and unwelcoming to different playstyles over the past few years overall, and this is just an example. It's a silly block game, folks. We can all just have fun. There's so many ways to customize the game to be the way you want, and that opens up even more if you're not a bigtime vanilla purist (and no judgment if you are, that's valid, I'm just saying). Heck you can even continue bashing these purely aesthetic features all you want, I'm aware I have a hot take lol. Just stop bashing actual people for liking or creating things in the game, at the very least; that's insensitive at best and outright toxic to the fandom at worst

@@mirkohobleWell I’m not exactly on the twitter or tumblr side of fandom, but I can give my perspective as someone who read a lot of Atla fics on ao3 a couple years back. A common trend of Katara hate that I’ve noticed is that it’s usually expressed in relation to Zuko, specifically in fics in which Zuko joins or attempts to join the gaang
It can be mild sometimes, I read this fic where Zuko joins the gaang, katara’s kinda mean. Withholds food and stuff. Not too bad, and it’s usually remedied by the end, with Katara and zuko ending up as friends. Katara’s usually the main antagonist(not villain, antagonist. I mean, as in the main obstacle to the objective, ie Zuko joining the group) or the hardest to win over, which is understandable, considering canon. Depending on post-cave betrayal incident or katara’s dislike of firebenders in general cause of what happened to her mother, unfavourable portrayals of katara can vary.
But sometimes, stuff can get really ooc. As in, Katara is portrayed as a genuinely unlikeable character, who goes out of her way to make life miserable for Zuko. Mostly in a way that’s like, influencing the others in the team, especially Aang. Read one that made Katara some sort of psychopathic mind manipulator. It also portrayed the rest of the gang as ineffective, aang’s pacifism as idealistic, etc etc. Generally speaking, it’s more of a Zuko -centrism that affects most of the characters, but especially Katara, probably due to their particularly unfriendly relationship in canon. At least, that’s my experience. Who knows, maybe I was just stuck on a specific part of ao3 lol.
I’d like to hear what others think about this haha.

Personally, I kinda like filler episodes. If it’s just random filler right before the finale then… probably not but sometimes its nice to just see the characters interacting and having fun. Sometimes filler is just fanservice though and it kinda sucks but otherwise filler is fine to me.

The thing is that filler episodes help the consumer get more invested into the characters and their motivations! Avatar: the Last Airbender, for example, had amazing filler episodes that helped you love the characters and root for them in the end. Filler should be prized, and the reason that many shows released today aren't as good as their older counterparts are because we just don't care about the characters that much. How will eight episodes with a 20 minute runtime convince me to love these characters and root for their motivations?
In conclusion, filler is beautiful--provided it isn't really weird--and should be treasured.

He was introduced as comic relief and gained high miltary status as a gag, but Palpatine saw his naivity and used him as an unwitting pawn in converting the Republic to an Empire. Clone Wars series really went a long way towards redeeming him in the end, too. All the stuff he does makes way more sense once you realise he's almost literally a fish out of water. Try going swimming for more than an hour and then go for a walk. Your body needs to adjust to the shift in gravity, so you end up feeling 'off'. Now imagine that doesn't go away. Yeah, I can see some clumsiness coming out of that. The other Gungans don't show this, but it's very possible Jar Jar just belonged in water by default, and he's not the only nautical character in canon.
Granted, his intelligence and lack of wisdom isn't excused by that. But again: fish out of water. He thinks fast, and he's unpredictable, which has its own virtues. It would have been nice to see him shine on the big screen like he did on the little screen.

    I. Do. Not. Get. The hate towards rarepairs and crackships. I think in the past, rarepairs and crackships used to be a lot more accepted either as a joke or people thinking it was revolutionary! But in today's fandom culture...yeah naw, you either have to like a popular ship or proceed to be pointed at for liking something else or get comments like this;
"Bro these characters never interacted before, why does this exist 💀"
"_____ is crying somewhere as he sees his girl or boy be taken by someone he/she doesn't know in game"
"Not a fan of ______, but hey the art is cute I guess!"
"Nah ______ is cannon, what is this tomfoolery"
As someone who grew up with loving many and all kinds of ships, I just feel so out of place when I just don't vibe with certain popular ships, especially ones that bastardizes character's personality to fit a specific, shallow ship trope, a ship that has content riddled with the usual toxic hetero, gay, or lesbian tropes, or God forbid if I prefer two characters to be just friends as they are in cannon.

I love rarepairs mainly because shipping is a very loose thing with me, and I will read anything if the ship interests me. I recently finished a fic concerning a two characters that haven't really even talked to each other in canon, but the premise was super interesting and dived really into character analysis. The execution was also amazing, but that's probably because the writer has been writing fics since like before I was born.

Back when that was airing, Disney wouldn't even let Alex put an old lesbian couple in the backround of ONE scene of ONE episode. And now there's a main character with a canon queer relationship. That's a huge achievement. So although I don't really have an opinion on the ships since I don't watch that show, I totally understand people who feel uncomfortable with ships like that. 😅

From Warrior Cats, a character named Appledusk. He was in a forbidden relationship with his mate, before it turned out he was cheating on her with someone that was legal/acceptable for him to be with, and turned his back to her. Obviously I'm not excusing cheating or calling him a perfect guy, but he was INSTANTLY villainized for his cheating. I actually find him to be an interesting character.
He turned his back to his original mate after they were found out, not to save his own skin, but because she had just tried to cross a raging river and gotten their kittens killed. Given how Appledusk was very familiar with water and knew that would've been a bad idea, not to mention there were other routes to go, he blamed her for those deaths even if it was an accident. He couldn't stand her after that. And it was already hinted he was unhappy in their relationship with how overbearing Mapleshade was, and naive too.
Obviously it's very valid to hate Appledusk for cheating, but I don't like how he's just framed to be this completely awful "muahaha I am an incel and I do what I want!" bad guy with no regard for women when, despite his mistake, he cared for his mates the best he could and even died sacrificing himself when the mate he cheated on tried to kill the other mate. You don't have to like him at all, but they could at least not mischaracterize him, especially not for the sake of glorifying the original mate and trying to say she was justified for becoming a mass murderer after he cheated on her.
The majority of the fandom seems to think he should have gone to the Dark Forest (basically cat hell) instead of StarClan (basically cat heaven), when he's proven to have been overall a good cat, even if he made a giant mistake, especially since he sacrificed himself for the other mate to save her from a mass murderer. Cheating is NOT okay, but people who cheat are not automatically dark hearted villains. Sometimes it is just a mistake that isn't a reflection of their overall character, and I say this as someone who has been affected by cheating, so I know what I'm talking about. Everyone has done bad things before.

I could be on board with a twist villain... if they were done correctly. You actually do need to be able to see it coming. Your smart viewers (or readers for written form) need to be able to put the puzzle pieces together as you lay down small pieces to put together. Your general audience will realize that they should have seen it coming.
But we don't see that in newer Disney films and that's not good. We CAN do this correctly which... Bellweather is a good twist villain. You see it coming not just in her dialogue, but also in hints hidden on her desk and in other pieces in the art. You SHOULD see that coming. Going back further, Toy Story 2 had Stinky Pete. You should have seen it coming with how Pete manipulates Jessie and Woody while hints are left that Pete has been leaving his box. These are twist villains.
Hans is not a twist villain. The only moment that COULD be taken as Hans revealing his true intentions is a single scene with Elsa during Frozen where Elsa is potentially in danger. But this doesn't make sense as we could argue he actually is saving her... and his "evil" should really be targeted at Anna first if we wanted Elsa's words to be a better warning. So we can't count him for anything other messy writing.
Twist villains are great. If they aren't written sloppily. We have a plague of sloppy writing not just with Disney but with all creative pursuits. I'm unsure how this started, but it needs to end. Dreamworks isn't innocent either and just because they got Jack Horner? They still have a lot to answer for. Too many sloppy villains that needed to cut the fat.

People get upset over it because she is transfem reputation and people denying that is going to be upsetting. I can kinda understand both her and Powder’s thought processes at the time because I could see myself in them both. Vi walked off because she needed to clear her mind, but she got kidnapped. Powder thought she was being abandoned, which made her paranoid later on in life.
    2. Gregory from _Security Breach_ and Six from _Little Nightmares._ I love them both, and it hurts to see the fandom vilify them for being scared little kids.
Gregory breaks the animatronics to upgrade Freddy and to decommission them so he can be safer. Sure, it’s also so the game can have boss fights, but it also makes some sense in-universe.
It makes no sense that he would go back with Vanessa to “fix” the shattered animatronics because they were literally trying to kill him.

    - The AUs. I think they are cool. Other than Underswap and a bit of Underfell, I never engaged with them that much, but it didn't annoy me either, I loved seeing people have fun with alternate versions of characters I loved.
    - The fact that Sans is so popular. Granted, I might be biased since Sans is my second favorite character after Papyrus and I am a huge sucker for any skelebros content. But I genuinely don't get what's wrong with people liking a character and that character becoming a mainstay in internet culture. Like, an average person is probably gonna see some Star Wars or superhero stuff in their life, whetever they want to or not - I am not a Star Wars or superhero fan, but I don't mind seeing it. I don't feel like it's getting shoved in my face or anything, it's just a part of our pop culture and I kinda see Sans (as well as UT in general) the same way.
    - The depiction of Chara as evil. Yes, I get it, you are the one who decided to do the genocide route, you killed everyone, you are the bad guy, some random dead kid didn't cause it, you did, absolutely. However, based on some random info we hear about them, like them "hating humanity", "not being the best person", laughing when Asgore got poisoned, etc. it's quite understandable why we made that assumption. Also, yes, it's cool that every character in Undertale is, at worst, morally gray in some way and it's understandable to apply that to Chara, but I also love the idea that by killing everyone, you managed to awaken an entity who IS completely evil. Like, that's how badly you killing everyone affected the game and it's still your fault that it happened. Also, it's cool that other people were able to come up with the "Chara is the narrator" theory. I am too stupid for that, I couldn't, and that's okay. Chara is such a mysterious character to this day and it's silly to expect everyone to have a full grasp on them and their motivations.

7:02 Adam is creepy. He acts incredibly creepily towards Langa, so I hate him. I think the argument that he would have been popular when this person was in hs is kinda unfair. Like, they're not even the same genre. Sk8 is a sports anime, not Shojo, so theres not guaranteed to be alot of overlap in audiences. I think the pi chart of "Sk8 fans" and "people who have read 90s Shojo manga" would have little overlap, lol. Sk8 seems like it has alot of fans who are 2000s kids like me and probably would not have grown up seeing this type of character in media a lot. (Disclaimer i have never read 90s shojo manga and therefore am not an expert in its contents.) Therefore it was not normalized for us like this person seems to be implying it was for them. So we see an adult man being creepy towards a minor mc and hate him because its creepy. Like, i feel like he would not have been a "messy evil icon" when this person was in hs if Langa was a girl. Yk? He would read more clearly as a creepy pedo.
Its fine to like him as a villain. I don't even personally think it's bad he's in the show. He's a villain for a reason. He's not gonna be the picture of morality, lol.
I think its fine for other people to not hate him, or even like him. Even though I do NOT understand it. After all, he is just a fictional character. But i don't think we're being extreme for hating him. The people who hate him and the people who are fine with him are used to completely different types of media and characters in them, i think.

The Danganronpa fandom. There are several characters that either don't get enough love or are overhated, but the one I want to focus on is Makoto Naegi, who I really don't understand why so few people like him. Sure, he's generic, but how can you not love him? He's got such a golden heart, he always wants the best for people, and he even looks for the good in people, even if they single-handedly caused a world-wide apocalypse! He's like a more mature version of Papyrus! And while he's a symbol for hope, the hope that he fights for is a positive one that can push through the greatest despair! And yet, the fandom gravitates to the one who will sacrifice himself for hope regardless of whether that hope is good or bad, and looks down on people he views as below him (which is saying a lot, considering the fact that he views himself as trash).
I've even watched a video somebody made on why they dislike Makoto, and I still don't understand. Especially since part of the video was a misconstrued view of that one part in the story where he got someone mad at him, as if Makoto was too naive to understand why she was mad at him, when in fact he did know why and he took it in stride.
I won't say Makoto is my favorite character in the franchise (he's actually my third favorite protagonist just behind Shuichi and Kaede). I will say that he deserves a lot more love than the fandom gives him.

Borderlands 2 player here. Apparently a lot of BL fans actually liked the gameplay of 3, but there were three things in particular that they hated about it:
      1. The characterization of the twins who were the main villains, widely considered to have been a MASSIVE step down from the epitome-of-magnificent bastardry that was Handsome Jack.
      2. Overreliance on toilet humor (including coming from at least one of the aforementioned twins iirc) as opposed to the humor of the previous games which was as varied as it was wacky.
      3. The narrative treating Ava with kid gloves even after her impulsiveness literally got fan-favorite former player character Maya killed (which she then refuses to take any blame for), culminating in her being appointed to lead Sanctuary when there were other people like Tannis who would’ve been more qualified in any case.

I think it's because there's a difference between 2012-era "annoying" & post-far-left-era "annoying".A lot of authors seem to think New York City & Los Angeles are the status quo,or the pinnacle of society which others should aspire to.They don't understand that they're a minority. That the consumers dislike that culture.
FOR EXAMPLE:The majority of people DO NOT think that gender is "socially constructed",but a facet of biology like the id/ego/superego (& before 2015,that WAS the case). But those 2 cities are filled with spiteful morons who want to commit revenge-by-proxy/relation against the ideology of the 80's,so they constantly reinvent language with sh!t like "BIRTHING PERSON" instead of "MOTHER" & put that into their stories.
I bet that noone who made those complaints at 11:45 was from Asia or South America (which have languages with gendered verbs & adjectives),just USA and rarely UK/Canada.Just look at Black Velma for a bigger example of why people hate this!

Thing is, the thundercloud at least hits the entire pack, it's an item to let a person near the back climb the ladder quickly.
The blue shell, doesn't really do anything for the person who used it, it's basically "If I'm going to lose, I'm going to ruin someone else's day as well." as a power up. If it produced a slip stream that the user was pulled along in to get a speed boost as well, hell yeah, that's great.
It just.. strikes me as the most spiteful power up in the series, a loud and specific "Fuck you!" to whoever happens to be in first at the time.
And I would still be okay with it as it is.. if it didn't have the same hit stun as all the offensive power ups, bringing the target to a complete stop. The fact it zeroes in on first place should be tempered with a weaker stun, doesn't last as long, only reducing them to half speed.

In the Twisted Wonderland fandom, people despise Rollo, the Claude Frollo expy. They said he was racist, but then I played the story and didn’t understand the hate… like yeah sure his actions are bad by metaphorically setting the city on fire to sap the magic out of everyone since his brother was killed in a magic accident. His story is almost IDENTICAL to Idia, the Hades expy, except their coping mechanisms are completely different, which was explored in the event story itself. Rollo is a character I don’t care for myself, but the hate is unwarranted in my honest opinion. (Also I don’t think hating people who use magic is considered racist, it’s just prejudice. @FizzieWebb Před 2 měsíci +2

To be fair, when the barren and empty overworld is the main draw (see BotW and TotK) it's a valid argument.
I'd level the same complaint at ScaVio for Pokemon, tbh. They focused more on making the world big and expansive, than.. interesting.
if BotW and TotK are a century after an apocalypse, where are the trade caravans moving between small townships? Where are the other adventurers? Where are the bandits? Why are the largest bastions of life small buildings with a stable attached?
For all it's flaws, Fallout 4, despite having a smaller map, feels more... alive. Density of content is important too, not just the scope of the playground.

@@HighEffortUsername I have played BotW actually, and they are few and far between, and most often just ended up being Yiga clan members in disguise, I kept running into the adventuring pair in BotW who you need to save from bokoblins and keese, and maybe a few sidequest npcs like the diving Zora who relocate to more populated areas after, but there was very few just.. wandering travelers that you could just spot along the road ways and none you could maybe trade some food stuff for arrows or shields or the like, or people out foraging in forests or gathering wood, or making camps in ruins to avoid bad weather....
The larger bastions are all centered around the capitals of the other races that call Hyrule home, There's no fledgling townships along the roads aside from the stables/inns, no caravans carrying goods between the cities and inns or patrols out making sure the road ways are safe...
Hell, the only structures that spring up during gameplay are a result of Link's direct intervention with Tarrey Town. No, I don't count the house because Link is just paying for the rebuilding of his old house.
Fallout 4 does a good job of making the world feel alive, you can see random scavengers out and about, talk to them and find out where they're going, or spot a trade caravan outside of a town and trade with them on the road. You'll find Gunner and Raider's wandering around patrolling their turf, roving gangs of super mutants out pillaging...
Even if the player is still responsible for upgrades to facilities of the various settlements around the map, you can still see trade caravans moving between the them to give the illusion of resources being ferried to and fro.
Hell, even Farcry 5 gives the illusion that you aren't the only resistance fighter in the state. You can find hunters and fishers out who you can trade with, with the implication that anything they kill or catch is going towards feeding their local resistance cell, spot civilians driving around on occasion, spot people being captured by the cultists, even if those events are being spawned in near the player, it still makes the world feel alive.
How are the inns being restocked in BotW if there are no farms near them? Same goes for places like the Gerudo capital, or the Rito capital, there are no farms or anything near them. The Goron eat rocks, so mining is a source of food for them, and there are mines dotting the area around their capital, and the Zora are on the water front, so fishing could fill most of their supply needs. But still, you'd think there would be Zora wandering the waterways to act as fish mongers, or Sheikah from Kakariko hauling food out to the Gerudo and Rito that they can't naturally grow in their areas, or Gorons carting around ores and minerals that can be used in construction and upkeep.
There are so many areas in the map you can visit that are utterly desolate, with no other npcs around, and it seems a waste when they could have dotted them with hunting parties with bows out stalking game, or foraging for fruits. Maybe placed small farms out there with generic npcs who grow crops or raise animals that are used for food or medicines...
It's 100 years after an apocalypse, and all Hyrule has to show for it is 6 small towns, and a dozen roadside inns.
The Commonwealth in Fallout 4 has a sense of agency that doesn't rely on the player finding it first like Hyrule seems to.

in all of my experience with fandoms, i believe there's barely even a border between the two opposite sides (homophobes/transphobes and queer people) that the lines often blur and clash together, causing psychic damage for both ends. usually, in my experience, both ends stick to their sides, but there's a good chunk that often end up seeking to hurt others within the fandom.
and in twitter(which is often my go-to place for fanart and news about fan creations) there's always something going on every week. i mean, there was a whole 1-2 weeks where sapphic spaces were being invaded by a bunch of homophobes that they were getting d**th threats, doxxed, and c/r stories under the ao3 tags. i really wish i was joking or exaggerating, but i lost a lot of good fanartists that i was following at that time due to that situation.

1:11 Aang did take the lives of soldiers who might not have even wanted to fight though, I think that's why people are annoyed he spared the actual psycho behind it all

I'd argue though that stripping him of his main tool of oppression is probably a bigger gut punch than just killing him. Like I'm sure when Ozai found out he couldn't bend anymore he wishes Aang would've just killed him.

people pointing out hypocrisy in aangs "i use violence when its necessary but ive never used it to take a life" is understandable, but i think the decision to not off ozai itself is fine. its fine to disagree with it, (believe me, i get it. i am not a "violence is never the answer" type of person at ALL lmao) but i dont think its as much of an issue as some people act like it is. it works. and i think it is important to keep in mind hes 12.

I think it’s because unfortunately this land into the category of "killing all the goons but not the evil guy) but in my opinion it works for Aang

I tend to not mind rude character. Lets says that purple hair guy from Pokemon LA, for example, or Berdly from Deltarune.
I usually find they kinda funny too because my god the dedication is hilarious.
But like people for some reason act like they are the most vile thing or even worse make them like some homophobic, racist thing.

my current fandom is very 'body positive' in the worst way possible... I love being in a fandom that loves such varied character designs and headcanons, and it's one of the best fandoms for it, but the second a character being large or fat approaches anywhere near fanon then suddenly anyone who doesnt draw them that way gets bashed to high heaven. Mind you, none of it is canon, both designs are as valid as each other... I see this happen in other fandoms too, particularly anime, where if a character is drawn even slightly pudgier than average for anime- not even actually fat, just not rail thin- then people go berserk if you draw them anything less than fat-fat, even their actual canon size. I get wanting to see more body diversity and being protective of larger characters especially in anime given how they often end up drawn, but it's jsut so awful, especially when a young or casual artist gets targeted and chased out.
