You did a great job of explaining the process and types of paints, Thanks I will subscribe. 7+ years later, the PPG Shop Line clear aren't that cheap anymore because they are pretty good. I use the 2-1 Euro Clear and the sucker is pretty darn good.
7 yrs later nothing is cheap anymore. People bitch because a paint job that cost $8-12000 then cost $12-16000 now. Sand paper is gone through the roof. Heating is near doubled. Lights etc etc etc. People don't realize its hard to paint in the dark and cold and that factors into the cost of a paint job.
newbie here. Nice video very imformative. You mention that you cant tell the deffirence if you sand and buff clear coat, Ive watch other videos in you tube they never mention that they have to san and buff clear coat. But anyway I like you video more. Thank you very much for it.
@TheFucYeah Yes you can put clear on an enamel paint job. We also cover these methods in detail on the enamel projects in the learnautobodyandpaint(dot)com course.
I want to make my black truck look glossy. It doesnt have to be perfect but can I just sand it to the point where the crear coat is off and then just apply crear coat again? It might not look black black but I just want it to be shiny.... Or do I have to add primer first and then clear coat it.
To answer your other question plainly in general no that's not even in the range of Ideal painting temperatures can it be achieved with chemical reactions and can it be done yes, is it ideal absolutely not. But if that's what you have to work with than then you can work with it your best bet and a secret that I don't think the original poster of this video mention and I haven't mentioned it either that's a great secret to know about is whenever you buy paint at a automotive place always ask for the data sheets which a lot of times you won't get unless you ask for them and they're free and they're a great resource for things like ideal temperatures or how to adjust for certain temperatures also things like pot life which is basically just once you mix a catalyst with a paint how long it will last before it's just not usable which is usually once mixed not very long for automotive paints. I like to always before I leave just say thank you do you have any data sheets you think that might be helpful as well as any sticks and strainers available please.
Buy your epoxy in the color you will need for a sealer compatible for your base coat.........reduce that for your seal coat as you will have some left over.
So when you put the flake in the clear and go to wet sand it and buff it seems to effect the color of the flake. When we laid the clear the flake was a blackish color (used the red flake house of colours) after wet sanding it turned like a whiteish
That is why you want to lay 1-2 coats of clear over it if you plan to buff. If you are doing this over SILVER flake, it will not effect it if you sand and buff without adding additional clearcoat. I only recommend this with MINI MICRO SEQUENCE flake though like this: www.zoolaa.com/collections/cosmic-pearls-by-xfinishes/products/x-finishes-ultra-silver-mini-flake-85g-3oz-pack - By the way X FINISHES flake and pearl is the BOMB!
nice vid i have a question if im going to paint my whole truck do i have to prime the whole truck or can i just prime where i do bodywork and scuff the rest and paint over scuffed old paint? and what color pearl would look good on black

Hi,
I am first time doing spray painting for a small project.
I am frustrated with the clear coat. It always comes up sticky.
Be it 2 part clear to 1 part hardener as according to the instruction.
or 3 to 1, 4 to 1. Was there anything I missed out or done wrongly? Can the left over clear mixed with hardener be kept for next using?
Thank you.
