    Storm info
    ***********
At around 12pm, National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, which turned into
a warning at 2pm as a line of very potent storms made their way East towards the NYC area.
The ETA of the storms was between 3 and 4pm, so I decided to make my way into Bay Ridge after seeing the track of the most intense cell was going to make it's way through the area between Fort Hamilton Parkway and 3rd Avenue.
This storm had every feature, except for hail. At time of writing, a possible tornado touched down only a mile and a half away from me in Bensonhurst (Where I had just traveled from) and caused tree damage and minor property damage. I will update the description if we get confirmation. I will also be taking a walk in the neighborhood this morning to see what damage, if any ,looks like.
*UPDATES BELOW at end of description.*
The shelf cloud was amazing - with the classic "Mothership Saucer" shape. Skies turned into night and the rain wall had the greenish-blue tint associated with severe storms. Lightning was dangerous. There were 3 really close strikes during the walk that forced me to stop the walk and just observe the storm from a safer spot, up against a tall building. Winds and extreme torrential downpours were also observed, with some downburst gusts and some circulation, but no proof of a tornado dropping. This storm would continue to travel south and east into Bensonhurst only a few moments later, and drop a possible tornado.
Once the core of the storm moves off, cloud to ground lightning intensity drops, and I start the rest of the walk in heavy rain with continued lightning and thunder. Streets were flooded and a Flash Flood Warning was eventually issued.
Enjoy the walk - Stay Dry and Safe - enjoy the sights and sounds of this beast, and as always, Thanks for taking the walk with me!

UPDATE: Storm Damage Video - • Walk Through of Storm ...
Location of epicenter is in Bensonhurst Brooklyn - Bay Ridge Parkway to 72nd streets between the 19th to 20th Avenue blocks. From what I am saw, all the trees looked to be snapped in one direction. Any homes damaged were by fallen trees. No blown out windows or roof damage. And no trees show damage on the tops. If it were a tornado, it would have went through like a weed wacker. This was most likely a microburst of straight line winds up to 100mph.

Throughout my near 8 decades on this earth I've witnessed the development of many nasty storms...from mild to destructive. When you pay attention to "everything" around you, you begin to realize how amazing they all are. For me it never gets old...no two are alike. I still enjoy the experience... just like this one. Watching it develop through your lenses is very nice. I appreciate your interest and sense of adventure...and sharing this with us is very special. Thank you!!

The fact that you didn’t ruin the natural ambiance by talking the whole time, made this one of the most peaceful yet exciting thunderstorm chases out there. Bravo, well done

Walking with my wife from Brooklyn into downtown. A few sprinkles on the Brooklyn side - FULL on at the 1/2 way point. Scary but fun. Felt like a couple of kids running around. Soaked EVERYTHING. Also the quickest way of clearing the bridge of tourists, selfies and vendors. We had the bridge to ourself.

Thats the great thing about rain - it can clear out the crowds for a while and then you end up being the only person out and about.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. We've had a few nasty storms here in Mass in the past several weeks with 5 inches of rain in 2 1/2 hours that flooded many area ( particularly Leominster ) and it got very dark out during these storms. This reminded me of them

You don't need a thunderstorm to be in a dangerous situation... crossing the street several times when the light is red, for you as a pedestrian can supply a good amount of danger aswell.

It's weird...at 10:00 when the stronger drops begin to fall, I could swear I smelled the warm pavement as it reacted to those first cool drops as well as the plastic of the unfurled umbrellas. Summer rainstorms have such a beauty to them-I learned to abide and adore them, growing up on the Gulf coast of Florida.

we had a similar storm just yesterday in germany. It was not a supercell but it was strong. especially the rain was very heavy. The amount was barelly 60 liters. We also had over 1000 lightning strikes just around our town. They caused some power malfunction around town. Many basements got flooded and a some streets with poor drainage were flooded as high as someones knees. Some areas also got hit by 1 to 2 centimeter large hail. We are lucky that we had no storm winds. maybe a bit high wind but nothing severe.

I remember this day like it was yesterday. This happened to me in my bus route during the afternoon at school in the Bronx and we are caught in it with the rain, my friend side lining behind one of the buildings that it was like close, followed by a loud turn off the boom and then pull out the rest of the bus drop off we got soaked in the rain for me. It looks like I took a shower in a storm. It may look fun But when it comes to thunderstorms like this, you had to take responsibility during a severe storm like this one

This was amazing. I always figured you needed a car to go chase. Well maybe if had been a tornado but now seeing this I realized if a storm is close you can walk it as long as you can take cover somewhere. I'm 2 hours north of the city but surrounded by trees n woods so there's no great clearing to get a storm moving in. When I go to TN soon I'll definitely be doing this. Thank you for the inspiration.

This is not a joke; an umbrella can attract lightning and injure the holder. Please take care old mate.

I’m from Long Island NY but I recently moved to Greensboro North Carolina…..and honestly, I prefer the severe storms in NY better than the south because the house that I grew up in on Long Island….my bedroom was covered by an indoor screened in porch, so whenever it would be super windy….I only felt it if my window was open. As for the thunder…..it would be loud but not super scary, and the rain…..not too bad. The storms here in the south…..always that chance of a tornado popping out.
