This is how salman is. He has a very unique personality. People either love him or hate him. There is no middle ground. You might also be missing out on a few references. For example, salman mentions when his friend left him. By friend he meant girlfriend who was aishwarya at that time. He also mentions Katrina and ranbir because Katrina was his ex and ranbir was dating her at that time.
Also as many mention, most people in Bollywood are intimidated by him. His father Salim khan is the writer of Sholay.

Every answer Salman give had a contex with it which you do not know. Salman has a big history with Aishwarya, Katrina, He had a fight with Ranbir, SRK and so on. You had to know those stories to understand his answers.

@Sikandorr Salman did a favor to so called owner of Dharma, by offering him to play character of Aman in KKHH, when literally everyone rejected the movie for their own insecurities. And for that Karan respects and adores Salman. And not allowing someone to intrude in their privacy, is the choice every individual has and Karan is more of a hesitant to ask him those questions knowing that he doesn't like talking about it. Salman is the only lead actor today who has worked with almost all other lead actors and has maintained a genuine comradery over the years, which talks a lot about his security as an actor and success in personal relationships. Don't put your own hatred into other people's mouth.

You can't really compare Karan to the other interviewers because there is such an interesting dynamic he brings to the table. Johnny or David or Conan or the Jimmys aren't one of the biggest movie producers, directors, and socialites in the industry. It gives him so much power over his guests. That's probably why he can ask the questions he asks. American talk shows are rehearsed to a certain degree and the guests disclose what they will talk about in advance. As a result they are not as insightful and are more comedy-oriented. And if you try to do it any other way, you get situations like RDJ walking out of an interview.
One of my most favorite episodes 😍 , salman is a man man !! He was in love with aishwaria they dated years ago but broke up very badly , they got in struggles through it , salman went to her door drank and angry and ended up police coming to pick him up !! He does interviews like this and it is very interesting bcz of his natural personality, he is like totally himself & doesn't pretend to be anything..it's just ppl who are always intimidated by him & don't joke around him much😂..Salman is a host of India's one of the biggest reality shows - Bigg Boss and he is doing it from 10 Years successfully...he is a good speaker but foreigners may not get it as he mostly adds his humour and speaks in hindi..it's more abt the Indian references which you may not understand..

Not because of the witty or spontaneous answers, but because of the SHEER HILARITY and irony of the circumstances, Salman finds himself in. The awkward pauses were due to the fact that Karan was taken by the strikingly bold, scandalous, and all-out honest answers given by Salman. Anybody with the slightest idea about Salman's life and his past would be just laughing their asses off at the extremely comic situations he finds himself in during the show. This bit didn't show it, but this episode had his father, Salim Khan saab, as the second guest, who must have been sitting somewhere in the backstage when this was going on. So, he was extra conscious about that. But even then, he did manage to pass remarks about the goings on in the industry, which were kind of meta references, most of which was in Hindi, but also, you'd have to really be on top of these to get the passes he was making.
