  • RING DEBATE - Cam Newton vs Shannon Sharpe (Jordan, Kobe, Iverson, Charles Barkley, Malone, Caitlin Clark, Barry Bonds)
    Shannon Sharpe: I believe you can be great without winning a championship. But in order for us to add the -est you have to have won a championship.
    Cam Newton: You’re thinking about a lot of determining factors.
    SS: The same determining factors that went into winning the MVP.

      One player can’t accumulate stats either. You literally need everyone else to do their job to get stats. If 10 players do their job and score a TD but one is offsides that negates the TD and the yards associated with it. Try again though👍 Also better situations can give different players better stats too.

    This is one of the realest conversations about GOAT/ Greatest I’ve heard. Rings are that something extra that separates. There levels to this. Rings should not define an individual’s career or accomplishments on the court, but a ring enhances that greatness because now you have done something that displays your greatness on another level. You have elevated a team not just yourself. But you are still the great player that you are without a ring. Malone is still one of the top Power Forwards in NBA history but you can’t put him above Tim Duncan, but Robert Horry is not above Karl Malone even though he had 7 rings. Great conversation between these two.

    Whereas, athletes playing individual sports or team sports that requires 6 or less players to play at a time, should be judge more harshly in regard to their greatness or legacy.

      @@rtdsbg1 I'm not talking about what Shay saying. They're having this discussion for a reason and that's because people, generally sports fans and media, act as if a ring is the barometer on individual player's success.
      I'm not saying that Shay or Cam is acting as if winning a ring cements greatness, I'm merely talking about how the general sports fans' see greatness nowadays. Sorry for the confusion.

      I agree 2 a point...I would say that if your best player is also tue hardest working...if the others aren't putting in the same work 4 success......move them like Kobe asked when he got Pau and his crew...sonues it's a TEAM sport, but ONE individual can be the difference between becoming immortal or just being good enough...

    • @ChrisHoward141
      @ChrisHoward141 Před měsícem

      Why do you play the game if not to win? Also ANY measurable statistic is a TEAM effort. If 10 out of 11 do their job and one person is offsides or out of position the play is negated no matter how spectacular it was. Try again little guy.

    I am sort of torn between winning Superbowl rings and athletic awards. It would be ideal if you were an MVP and also won the Superbowl, instead some rookie first year player gets a ring and you played 0ver 10 years and received nothing, I would be kind of sick, I guess.

      Aaron Schatz voted for Josh Allen. That MVP vote was a joke. Lamar wasn't THAT much more deserving than everyone else. Also people make too big a deal out of MVP. Only 50 people vote on it.

    Ring counting is lazy because it involves things that aren't in the individual player's control. The only thing that concerns me is how a player performs in big moments no matter the outcome.
