- With the rise of Washington Huskies football in 2022, Michael Penix Jr became a household name, but no one benefitted more than WR Rome Odunze. The former Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year had a breakout season and was seen as a potential first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he decided to come back, hopefully have a special season and become the #1 WR in the country. Today, I want to talk about the best WR that you have never heard of and the rise of Rome Odunze, enjoy!

Geramie Bernard was committed to Washington and they got swiped by Michigan State. So I'm pretty happy he came back to his original commitment.

Odunze is the best receiver in college football. Some would say it's Marvin Harrison (Ohio St.) because he probably runs better routes and gets more separation, but I'll take Rome because he makes more difficult catches and in the matter of a jump ball with him and the defender, Rome is more likely to come down with the ball
Lol, what? Marv's catching ability is what separates him from the pack. Dude makes insane catches. He actually doesn't create a lot of separation.

He is Top 10 on several big boards. He is WR2 taken in the draft, a likely top 10 pick. He is closing in on Reggie Williams' Husky career receiving yardage record.
We'll see... expect a run on WR's early if a team expected to take a QB trades down or picks one up

Picking out the best receiver isn’t as easy as all the Harrison/Nabors fan boys on here think. If you go off of the Klatt/Herbstreit/ etc group, they all say Harrison. But Harrison isn’t at the top of the stats. Odunze is higher up than Harrison but not as high as Nabors. What if Harrison is double teamed every play and just doesn’t have the reception numbers? or a pass happy offense like LSU and Washington just give their receivers more chances? I think any of those 3 are great and I guess we will see at the next level. I’ve been closely watching Rome for 2 years now and he’s amazing. I’ve never seen a receiver go up and get as many passes and get yards after catch and just get open. He’s going to make a great pro with his size!

@@williamcooke6056 I don’t think Rome will beat Reggie’s records. However, Rome is the better WR and is the most pivotal player on this 2023 UW team. I am a big Reggie fan, but I can’t deny Rome’s impact anymore. Rome is the best player on the best team.
@FeliPeltier Agreed, I doubt HD will, it would take a lot. Reggie's legacy is set in stone, no matter what. I watched him play for the Lancers way back when. I've never seen a player take over a game like he could.

Rome has more yards this year and has more total yards in his career, he just has about 5 more touchdowns than Rome in his career and I mean in both there 2 years as starters Rome has more wins so is MHJ really that much better?

@@Christianervin4Rome was a starter in 2021 his numbers just weren’t impressive. Having penix definitely helped him. Marvin went crazy with 2 different QB’s and one of them sucks. Marv is by better and will be as well in the NFL
@@andyhegarty820 you didn’t watch the 2021 season at all than because he didn’t play the whole year and missed games to injury and was never 100% and MHJ played in every game that year for Ohio State whether he started or not he appeared in all 13 games. But still over the past 2 seasons MHJ has 2,474 yards and 28 tds and Rome has 2,471 yards and 20 tds he just has more tds and over those past 2 seasons Rome has the higher catch % and has extremely higher 1 on 1 catch % than MHJ. So is he really that much better or does he just play for Ohio State and his dad was an NFL hall of famer is why you think he’s better? Cause have you actually watched both them play in a full game!

Who would you guys say is better between Rome and Nabors?
They're pretty different, nabers is a better route runner has more top end speed and creates better separation while Rome is bigger with catch radius and more physicality. It literally comes down to what offense you run and how versatile you prefer your receiver to be. Honestly I like both more than Marv, his motor doesn't run that high.

I love Rome, but he is NOT the "best" WR in college football in any sense of the word. If we're talking talent/potential, Marvin Harrison Jr is easily the best. If we're talking college production, Malik Nabers has him beat.

@@Christianervin4 There's so much wrong about what you just said. Having the best 1-on-1 catch percentage doesn't automatically equate to better separation. Although Rome is a good separator in his own right, he's also known for being a contested catch beast, and contested catches don't involve much separation (hence the word "contested"). Because of Troy's slight frame, he depends almost entirely on separation and long speed.
