    We bought our Odea from Seattle Coffee Gear 7 years ago. I've been able to repair it because of your videos. I do appreciate that you offer this service not only to your customers but everyone on CZcams. You could take the approach "lets keep secrets so they have to come to us for repairs." Your openness makes me appreciate your company. Because of that, over the years, we have bought two more machines from you as gifts and will continue to do so. Thank you for your customer oriented approach to business.

      I just found odea giro plus 2011 model at goodwill. Cleaned and lubricated everything. It grinds coffee but does not brew. No warning lights. Brew group motor dosent seem to be doing anything. Water goes into drip tray. Any ideas. I'm guessing brew motor has issue..guess I'll have to dissasemble to find out.

    Thanks you helped me I was so mad I could not find out what was wrong but looking at your videos helped me to find out what was wrong the hole time it was the dregdrawer. All I had to do was take it out when the machine was on and leave it out for a few seconds and wow it started working again. Thanks Thanks Thanks.

    OK, Now I am going to chime in. Oh, thanks for the Test mode description, very useful for all us owners of these complex machines. I DO love them, no more work than my old big machine.
    ANYWAY, my Giro Plus started to falsely think it ran out of coffee beans. grinds, grinds,grinds then the error light as if it ran out beans. I have cleaned out the grinder, run the adjustment back (courser), asked for less grounds, more grounds, even run some grinder clean through it and cleaned it again, nothing has helped.
    Now if it was the sensor faulting, you would think it would think it was going slower, the pulses getting slower not faster. Please your thoughts.
    Also, this is not every attempt to make an espresso more like 60% of the time, a waste of coffee!

    • @fab-gallo
      @fab-gallo Před 8 lety

      +Mark Kather were you able to fix this issue? My Odea Giro started doing exactly the same last week. I am wasting 2 out of 3 coffees since then :-(

    • @e4services
      @e4services Před 8 lety +1

      Hey, no I did not fix the issue, just put the machine on the shelf and bought another. Saeco finally responded that it could be either the Grinder Motor or the pulse generator that is suppose to produce a pulse or pulses as the grinder spins to a, make sure the grinding took place, and b, to make sure of the speed. I was told it could be just dirty, i.e. the intermittent. Someone did respond here with the results of the same problem in another model.
      BUR, like I said, I had another amchine and never got around to dismantling the Giro. Maybe this winter.

      +Mark Kather Thanks for your reply!
      I had my Giro serviced a couple of months ago and until last week it was perfect (it's 9 years old). I guess I'll bring it back and see what it will cost me to have them take a look otherwise I will dismantle myself (did once already in the past)

    Hi great video and so nice of you to respond. I have a misbehaving Odeo Giro Plus. It has essentially 2 problems, but I'm sure they are related. 1) while brewing, it starts to run out of water toward the end of the pour (even though there is plenty of water avail). The pump starts to struggle and finally just spins, sounds like it is having trouble 'pushing'. If I turn the knob on and then off again, it seems to release pressure, then the pour continues and completes. 2) the unit fails to detect when it has run out of water--and still keeps trying to pour but with no water! I'm sure much more of this and it will fail completely. BTW, I have another matching unit (purchased refurbished from Seattle Coffee Gear) that is working great still after many years and heavy use. I swapped out the brew group from this one, and it still happens, so I know it is not brew group related. Thanks in advance.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 9 lety

      Hello Jeremy Dill, There could be a couple of things at play: My first thought was that likely the grind setting isn’t quite right, and maybe it's set just a touch too fine. This means that as the machine is brewing, the pump can struggle to push the water through, which is when you’ll get the slow dripping that you mentioned. Likely going one notch coarser will take care of that, as the grind setting is just on the border of what the machine is able to properly brew through to give a good flow. Just keep in mind that after you make a change to the grind setting, you’ll need to brew 4 cycles to clear through the mixture of the old and new grind settings before reevaluating.
      The other thought that I had was when you’ve last descaled? We generally recommend doing this ever 2-3 months, depending on your water hardness, but if it tends to be on the hard side as often as every month is fine too. You can’t hurt the machine by doing this process more often. Likely, since it is both needing to be frequently primed, and sometimes doesn’t sense that it’s out of water, this could be an indication that there’s some buildup on the water pathways.
      If that doesn’t do the trick, then I would suggest bringing it in for repair, either with us or to a closer Saeco repair center if you’re not under our SCG warranty. It may be a more intensive issue like a microswitch, pump, or board, but could also be other things! I hope this helps! ~ Miranda

    I have an older (2003) model Saeco Talea Giro. I ran the diagnostics on it per the video. The pump makes a weird sound in test mode and will not dispense water in test mode but it will dispense water in normal mode. Somehow (husband), got the brew group stuck in the working position, so I put the machine in test mode and returned the brew unit to the home position, then ran the rest of the diagnostics. I shut the machine off and then back on and tried to make a cup of coffee. The machine grinds the coffee, the brew unit starts moving, the pump makes the regular pumping noises but no water comes out of the of the spigots and then the brew group makes a very loud popping sound and the red exclamation point comes on and starts blinking. Any tips?

    Don't know if this thread is still viable, but here goes. BTW, I have downloaded the parts manual. I have started getting rapidly flashing red led's and a failure to grind. The grinder starts then stops. When I put my Giro into test mode it will start to grind, then stop. In the video you noted that the water light flashes with revolutions of the grinder. Mine doesn't. I hear the motor wind up, then just stop. You mentioned "It's getting that signal". What part is "getting that signal"? Is it part #181540900, the electronic board with HAL506 sensor? Thanks.

    Thank you for this video. Much appreciated. Can you shed some light on an issue I'm having on my Odea Go SUP031O. The machine brews coffee fine but turning it on is like trying to solve a puzzle. Nothing happens when you first press the power button. I usually have to open and close the dreg drawer a few times to get it to "wake up". Sometimes that is not enough and I try pulling the water tank out and back in, or the lid to the bean hopper off and on. Once it wakes up, it is fine. My service provider told me it is an electronic board issue and that it is not worth fixing and to replace the unit with a new one. I like this machine and would like to try to fix it. What is the part number of the control board that I would need to order for this machine. I see there is a board behind the dispensing area in front of the machine but there is also a board adjacent to the first one (schematic 32 Power Board and schematic 14 CPU + Faucet Board). Can you please direct me as to which board I would have to replace. I appreciate your help.

    Hello, my brother gave me the ODEO Go. From the first uses, I put the grinder in the minimun, but the caffe was very smooth and watery. The grinder adjustment only allows you a half turn, and it was still not enough. I pulled out the container of coffee beans unscrewing a screw of the container, and you can get out the ginder regulator and move another half turn clockwise and put in again. This allows you finer grinder setting.
    Now, the coffe is tasty.
    I would like to ask you if this can cause any malfunction in my ODEO? Or Is it posible to make a video doing this adjustment from you side?
    Best regards.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 9 lety

      Hello Andoni Cadenato Velasco, It sounds like you recalibrated your grinder to a finer setting, which should present no real issues to your Odea if done correctly. Moving the burrs too close together can cause them to wear more quickly, so any calibration should involve moving burrs together to the point of touching and then backing them apart again a small amount. We don’t typically advise doing this at home and suggest it being done in a service center so a technician can be sure the process is done correctly. - Teri

It started all the sudden, one day it was fine the next it was a watery mess... but haven't been able to find any info on what the issue might be. Jessica Conklin I have had that happen before also. It was always that not enough coffee was dispensed. Does it seem as if the grinder doesn't run as long as it did? The machine I saw this on was an Expelia, it has a screen so a way to get into the program and up the pulses on the grinder. My guess would be the pulse generator on the grainer went south, which is all I can think of for my error on my Giro also

      Hello Esther Adam, It may be best to contact your local service center. Generally, when the machine is leaking coffee, it tends to be a part inside the machine. However, there is one other thing you can try before resorting to that, and that is to make sure that the brew unit is clean. Occasionally the screen can get clogged to the point that the machine can’t push through the grounds. To take off the screen, you can walk through the video for the thorough cleaning for the brew unit: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/learn/videos-home/ask-the-experts/saeco-superauto-brew-group-tips. ~Miranda

      Hello! if you’re still in test mode, you should certainly exit out of test mode. You can do this by powering off and then powering back on. If the alternating lights clear, great! If not, it could be a clog in your grinder, or it could be something else that needs some repair. It’s hard to say without having the machine in person to evaluate, so you could contact us to set up a repair, or you can contact Saeco for a closer repair center: 800-933-7876. I press the cup button, it makes a noise, and then the upper and lower LED flash alternately. I cleaned the brew group and put it back, the same problem. • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 10 lety

      Hello N3ssaya, Prior to the white smoke coming out of your motor I would have suggested: if the upper and lower lights are flashing as you’ve described than you likely have a grinder clog. You will need to try to press down and turn the grinder adjustment key to move the grind setting to the largest dots for the coarsest setting. You can also clear out any beans/grounds in the grinder chute above the brew unit and in the grinder with something like canned air and perhaps by vacuuming them as well. It will take about 3-4 cups for the new grind setting to be in full effect, and hopefully push through the clog. You can then adjust the grind back down to perhaps the middle setting once the clog is clear. Do keep in mind that an oily, dark roasted bean (anything with a shiny surface) can clog the grinder in this manner and so a dry, matte finish bean is best. Also remember that moving to a finer setting should only be done with the grinder running, so you will need to position the lid over the magnet to trick the sensor, press the grind button, and then press and turn that grinder adjustment key. Only move about one dot at a time to prevent clogs, and brew a few cups to see the grind in full effect before adjusting again. However, with white smoke coming out of your machine it may be best to take it into a service center. - Teri

    Hi. Thanks for the great video.
    Do you know how I can fix this problem on my Saeco Odea Go:
    When brewing coffie, hot water is leaking out of the steamer "wand" (the one that makes steam for heating milk). Is it a 'seal/packing' in the steaming/heating part of the machine that needs to be changed, and du you sell parts for that?
    Thanks.
    Ps, I have tried to descale the machine with cirtic acid, and it didn't seem to help. Actually it made it a bit worse, so it leaks a bit more hot water when brewing coffie.

      Hello stahlw, I spoke with one of our techs and he said it sounds like your machine is in need of a tune-up and that the o-rings in the steam valve probably need to be replaced. Instead of simply replacing the o-rings, it might be best to take your machine into your local service center for an overall tune-up, just to be sure everything else is in good working order. ~ Sarah

    On my machine, turning on the steamer results in water collecting in the drip try inside the machine. Nothing comes out of the steam wand.
    In test mode I don't hear anything when I test the Solenoid Valve. Nothing happens when I run that test.
    So, I assume that's my problem. Is that actually the "Blowdown" valve? (I'm looking at a parts diagram for the machine and I don't see a solenoid valve)... thanks!

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 9 lety

      Hi greenguy97, interesting question! I would suggest running a paperclip up the steam wand to see if there's just a blockage, then maybe it will push water through without an issue. But if that won't fix it I'm not sure what the problem is exactly. It's not necessarily the blow down valve so it would likely need repair.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 10 lety

      Hello Pablo Tebas, Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to reset the machine when you’re in descaling mode. These machines just need to go through the whole cycle without being interrupted, so if you’ve already done the descaling portion, you can just use clean water. I’ve heard it taking as many as 12-15 tanks of water to run through, which can be frustrating, so sometimes “tricking” the machine by putting in a full tank of water to rinse, and as it starts to continue the rinsing, you can pull out the water tank, causing the machine to think it ran out of water. It may take many times of doing this, but eventually, the descale light will clear. - Miranda

      The best suggestion we can make is to try to clean the brew unit thoroughly, by cleaning the screen. You can watch the CZcams video here: SCG Tech Tip: Saeco Superautomatic Brew Unit Disassembly
      If this doesn’t work, it’s hard to say without seeing the machine in person. While it sounds like the gear is working properly according to your testing, it could be the brew unit that’s having trouble, or the motor/gear is encountering some strain. If you’re in the area, you could bring it in and we can take a look at it and give you an estimate, or you may want to find a repair center closer to you by calling Saeco directly. - Miranda

      This sounds like a pebble/rock made it's way through the roasting process and ended up in your grinder. This is somewhat common. Once a pebble makes it's way through the roasting process they look incredibly similar to a roasted coffee bean. The grinder assembly in the Odea is particularly deep in the machine, it's probably best to just take it into a Saeco Certified Service Center and get the whole grinder assembly tested and the ceramic burrs looked at. The outside panels of the Odea/Talea series are quite difficult to work with if you've never removed them before, which is why i suggest going to a Service Center. I hope this helps! - Brendan

      When you get the alarm to empty you dredge box, it needs to be removed from the dredge box sensor for at least ten seconds. The machine does not measure the weight of the dredge box itself, instead, it's programmed to tell the user to empty the box every 13 shots pulled. If this does not remove the '!' then the alarm is representing an issue elsewhere. - Brendan

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 10 lety

      Hello just2garfield! Most likely, the grind consistency is just a little too fine. By changing the grind setting to 1 or 2 notches coarser, then running about 4 brew cycles to clear through the mixture of old and new grind settings, you will likely find that the machine is able to brew properly. The grind consistency is very important to how easily the water can flow through the grounds and will be different for every bean/machine combination. The type of grind needed can even change as the machine is used over time, if you get a new bag of beans, or as the beans age. If you cannot get this to clear through you may have a clog, at which point you may need to use a vacuum or air compressor to clear out the clog. Try changing the grind setting first and you will probably see the improvement you’re looking for! - Miranda

    • @just2garfield
      @just2garfield Před 10 lety

      Seattle Coffee Gear Hi! Thank you for your prompt answer. I did as you said and I changed the grinding to the coarsest setting. I did make a cup of coffee and at the second one no coffee came out at all. I tried again and again, but the machine does the usual cleaning when it spits 2 drops of coffee and then it sounds normal and everything looks normal except that no coffee comes out.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 10 lety

      just2garfield, It could be that you have a clog in the grinder. If the grounds in your dump box are still well-formed pucks or are watery, then likely either the setting is still too fine for your beans, or there is a clog. If the grounds are completely dry and not a well-formed puck, then you’ve gone a touch too coarse. My best bet is that there’s a clog in your grinder though. You can try vacuuming out the grinder and where the grounds drop from the chute into the brew unit, and use an air compressor to try to clear any clog in these same places. If you’re still having an issue though, it will likely need some repair. - Miranda

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 10 lety +1

      Hi Watler, The first thing to look at would be the dosage. Make sure you're dosage has 3 out of 3 selected for the maximum amount of grounds. This is the only way to get a unified puck.
      Also, check your brew unit o-ring. When was the last time this was changed? If the brew unit o-ring is not making a proper seal, water will end up in the dredge box because that is the path of least resistance. Sometimes the brew unit o-ring doesn't need to be replaced entirely, just removed and cleaned because the oils of the coffee have a tendency to build up there. While you're there, i would also take a look at the brew unit screen and make sure that looks clean.
      Hope this helps!
      -Brendan

      Seattle Coffee Gear Thanks for the very quick reply. Really appreciate your help. I will check out the o-ring. Have not replaced since 3 years ago. Where can I buy spares for Odea? Yes, that maybe the issue as I saw more than normal waste water in the catch cup, along with the mushy coffee waste. BTW, what do you mean by dosage has 3 out of 3 selected? If you mean selecting the strongest brew by having all 3 green lights on, yes I do. Again thanks. I have subscribed to SCG and I enjoy my Giro Plus coffee.

    • @013883
      @013883 Před 10 lety

      Walter Li Brendan, one more question...I also found more than usual unused coffee powder when I remove the brew unit (outside of the brew unit and when I shake the brew unit), so much so that my coffee drink is weak. Could this issue caused by the o-ring as well? I will check SCG if it sells parts. Thank you.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  Před 10 lety

      Walter Li The Brew Group o-ring can be purchased through Seattle Coffee Gear when calling 866-372-4734 and referring to either the product description (Brew Group o-ring) or the product number PRT119C8163.
      The strongest dosage is indeed the three coffee bean lights in the center of the selector dial. You need 3 out of 3 selected for a good puck.
      There is a common break with the Odea/Talea series and that is the grinder chute. A lot of times when this breaks is causes grounds to fall outside of the brew group grounds funnel. Take your brew unit out and take a look up at the grinder chute. Does it feel secure? Or does it move around freely? The grinder chute needs to be mounted to the grinder securely in order to work properly. If the grinder chute does feel unsecured? If it does, i would suggest taking your machine into a Saeco Certified Service Center because this is an extensive repair. Getting to the grinder with an Odea requires disassembling most of the machine.
      Hope this helps!
