Soyuz MS-04 Construction, Testing and Integration

  • In the first manned launch of 2017, the Soyuz MS-04 spacecraft was slated to carry two members of Expedition 51 and 52 to the International Space Station, ISS. Roskosmos made a decision to reduce the Russian crew aboard the ISS beginning in 2017 to save funds. After a technical delay, a liftoff of Soyuz MS-04 was re-scheduled for April 20, 2017. The spacecraft is expected to remain docked at ISS until Sept. 3, 2017.
    As of 2014, the Soyuz MS-04 mission was planned for March 30, 2017, but the launch was later advanced to March 27, 2017, during the adjustment of the overall ISS flight manifest.
    On Jan. 16, 2017, Roskosmos announced that the vehicle with a production number 735 would be used for the Soyuz MS-04 mission, instead of previous plans to fly Vehicle No. 734. Roskosmos said that the swap had not been due to "technical reasons," but in reality, it was caused by a leakage discovered in the thermal control system, SOTR, of Vehicle No. 734. As a result, the launch of the Soyuz MS-04 mission had to be postponed from March 27 until April 20, 2017, at the earliest, depending on the readiness of Vehicle No. 735. The subsequent mission of the Soyuz MS-05 spacecraft also had to be delayed from May 29 until around July 28, 2017.

    Why didn't Russia make bigger capsules? Will be comfortable

    • @masoodjalal1152
      @masoodjalal1152 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Big Capsule adds more weight and would require more thrust which would require more fuel, but more fuel will also add more weight. The spacecraft has to strike a balance between weight and thrust. If you make rocket too big, it will require way too much fuel, so you have to settle somewhere.
      The soyuz is fine for its intended purposes. Soyuz is comfortable in essence that there is a space module which is empty during launch and has a toilet so the cosmonauts can relax once they reach space. It is slightly bigger, but even if one crew crawls into the space module the other 2 will have plenty space to be comfortable. Also they take off their space suits once in space. So that frees quite a bit of space.

    so many manual operation by fault-prone human. It's a miracle that there wasnt more failure of human-rated spacecraft (of any country). When you're building complex things by hand , you know you're still only at the stone age of space exploration. I cant wait to see a rocket-to-launch (or spaceship) that is 100% computer / robot driven without human intervention. THEN we will be a space faring civilization. Congrats on the Russian though for building one of the most reliable spacecraft ever

      I think REAL interstellar spaceships should not be assembled by robots, they must be grown)) Genetics rules! Imagine a big space roach with the cargo/personnel compartment...

    Особенно понравились стрелочные приборы во всех измерительных стендах и не надо мне рассказывать, что они самые точные, потому что в самом Союзе почему-то используют ЖК/LED экраны.
