  • This is the second round of Fall Mowing with the flail mower in the hills of middle Tennessee. The temperature has cooled down, fall colors are in full swing, the Kioti tractor is running well with all the recent modifications and servicing, and we've added a new tool to the video arsenal. What more could you ask for!?! Be sure to stick around to the end for bloopers.
    Those of you that like to see and hear the tractor doing work, this video has what you're looking for. Those of you that like the time-lapse, this video has that too. Those that like aerial and drone shots, this video is also for you!
    Thank you for stopping by! Be sure to give us a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe!

    What is the purpose of the “screen” behind you on the rops ?, does it help when mowing?

      @fourpasturesfarm  Před 2 měsíci

      Just a piece of plastic. It helps reduce chaff blowing in on me. Worked pretty good till it broke.

    Nice tractor-mower setup. Flail mowers leave a really nice cut. With 24 PTO HP I'm looking at a FL135 and since I have mostly grass and weeds I'm thinking Y-blades. Hammers on yours I'm guessing?

      Thanks! If you don’t have heavy brush, small trees, etc. then I’d go with Y blades for sure. Once I get my brush lines cleared I’ll probably go to Y blades too.

    Can you put in the description of the video what equipment you are using? I think this would help people when they are looking at options for what they have. I, for example, have the Kioti ck2610 and a bush hog 4' shredder but am looking at flail options. Thx

    Hey I’m just wondering if that mower is quick hitch compatible. I can’t seem to find anything that specifies if it is or not. I know that the economy flail they have isn’t which has me looking at this model like you have.

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hey! The only downside I have with this mower is that it’s not quick hitch compatible. Which is why it stays on 98% of the time and only comes off if I need to use a different attachment.

    What was that red tree at 7:54? My new property has tons of those , not quite that big but they are tough.

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před 6 měsíci

      I think that one was poke weed. Soft’ish stem, at least not woody like a true tree. Has dark blueish/black clusters of berries late in the summer.

    Do you think you can cover as much ground with a flail mower as with a rotary cutter? Trying to decide which one to buy? Thanks!

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před rokem

      More actually. I can run this mower as fast as I want or at least as fast as I can without shaking the tractor or myself apart. I’ve done the rotary before. I’ll never go back!

    I have CK3510 as well. Thinking to buy Woodmaxx FM62H or FM78H. Do you think Kioti could handle larger FM78H?
    Your mower seems to be between these two.

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před rokem

      The three point system may be able to lift a heavier unit but I don’t think the hydrostat will handle anything bigger. The hst bogs down a bit occasionally as it is.

      @@fourpasturesfarm Thank you Brent. We will go with FM62H then. I would hate to fight with underpowered implement.

    Is it possible to have a flail mower mow a yard to 4 inch height? Every flail mower video I have ever watched cut everything down to dirt level.

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před rokem +1

      I don’t see why not assuming the mower has the ability to adjust the roller and skid plates. See our video on replacing flail mower belts where I show how ours is set up.
      Between the roller and skid plate adjustments and adjusting the top link I get about 3” now. Getting another inch or so should be doable.

      also, what you are cutting is exactly what i will be cutting. Can you give me some info on the flail mower as well. All together i will be cutting about 9 acres. Will this set up work? All flatland with no trees or bushes to worry about.

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před rokem

      Don’t see why it would t work. The link to the 175 I have is below. If you don’t have brush, saplings, stumps, or rocks, you could probably go with a less beefy option with “Y” grass blades instead of the hammer blades I have.

    I have a lot of thick heavy brush I want to clear out of about 50 acres over this year. What would you recommend blade size?

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před 8 měsíci

      Not really sure how to answer that one. The blades on my mower are 3 inches each which I think is pretty standard for flail mowers.

      @garrettaustin6675 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@fourpasturesfarm ok thank you. I wasn't sure if there were other options if you have thicker cover or not. While I have you how fast is it to use? .5acre an hour maybe?

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před 8 měsíci

      Depends on how many hp you have. On flat or slight down hill I can go full speed in mid range and can get 1.5’ish acres an hour. The hst suffers a little on uphill and slows down but if you’ve got more than 35hp you should be able to cruise pretty good.

    • @garrettaustin6675
      @garrettaustin6675 Před 8 měsíci

      @@fourpasturesfarm I have the kioti 5320 hat. I have a 7ft brush hog for fast cruising but I was wanting this flail mower more for ditches pond banks but mostly to slowly clear my woods out because it's to thick to burn comfortably and to expensive these days to hire someone to do that for me

    • @fourpasturesfarm
      @fourpasturesfarm  Před 8 měsíci

      I love my IronCraft for sure but it only offsets about 10” or so. I know there’s other manufacturers that will offset completely which I think would be better for ditches and banks. Just a thought. Let me know what you end up with!
