Salford - Look At My City

- The film highlights the contrast between Salford in 1977 and the more recent development at Salford Quays. But behind the glossy veneer, much of the old Salford remains. The music is written and sung by Salfordian, Albert Thompson. I have found several people I photographed in the 70s and I am still trying to trace more people I photographed all those years ago. I now have a photography exhibition in Salford called SALFORD 77 from 28th June 2024 until 29th August 2024 at the Langworthy Cornerstone Community Centre. Please contact me if you can help. info@philportus.co.uk

Rise up Proud Salfordians we came from a Great Place, that was more than a Dirty old town💥💥
GOD BLESS SALFORD ✝️
Who, in their right minds, doesn't love Salford and its brilliant people? God save Salford.
I LOVE my Dearest Salford...
Love this video , I grew up in seedley in the 80s so I remember all the old streets and sadly very different now.
The place I once knew now looks a very different place..
Good memories stay forever though
Thank you Mark.
I was born and bred in Regent Rd in Salford. I now live in sunny Durban South Africa. What I would give to go back to those days with what I know now. The humor , (" the crack")in the pubs...The Red Cow on Albion St was my local. Best pint of "Boddies" in the country. Thank you Salford for given me a great start in life. I am seriously thinking of returning after living in SA for 40 years.
I live in Salford. I'm walking up to Irlams o'th Height in a couple of hours, there are still three pubs in a row. Nice to stagger from one to the other. Cheap beer and I can assure you the crack is still the same. We'll pick up a curry on the way home and nurse our hangovers in the morning with paracetamol, strong tea and full fry up. Nothing much has changed around here, apart from the middle classes buying over priced apartments on Chapel Street. I think you'd enjoy coming home John, at least for a visit, but I reckon you'd miss the sun, it's absolutely peeing down right now.
Stay put mate. Your Salford is long gone. More like Soweto without the sun.
My grandparents live in regent road Patrick and Kate O'Donnell x
Salford, my Salford, what have they done to you?
I am the middle kid at 1.24. Great memories of the fair at Cross Lane.

Great memories I have of Salford
Salford in the 1980s, great childhood memories
Many thanks, great pics and a heartfelt song.
I used to go in that amusement arcade on Langworthy road! Would have been late 1980s, long gone now.
I was born there, but never got to see the docks or the river. All I really knew was Great Cheetham Street.
Me & my mates used to get the number 1 salford bus from mandley park, along gt cheetham St to the docks & walk over the bridge to old trafford, Happy days.
Some great stuff on there, Phil.
Excellent presentation

Great pics and memory's many thanks from a proud SALFORDIAN 1962 to present day :-) wow so many changes.
I lovely film and a beautiful song. I am glad some of those photographed have posted and hope your exhibition went well. I remember it mostly from the 1950s and 60s. We lived in Swinton but I used to spend quite a bit of time at my grandparents house in Holly Street between Eccles New Road and the docks. The present market is not a patch on the old Cross Lane market.
Great song!! Thanks.
great tune ,wonderful pictures
In the early 1970s, I was mad on photography. Had the gear, developed my own films etc but it never occurred to me to just walk around and take pictures because it was familiar and I didn't think it would ever change. Lower Broughton, the mysterious rusty old remnants of a truck on Adelphi Street that had been there years, the shops on Lower Broughton Road, what once was a beautifully kept small park opposite those two blocks of flats... My School, Broughton Modern and the big fire in 1967 ish at a candle factory off Lower Broughton Road, am I really the only one who remembers that? Dirty Dick. I would have loved to have photographed him. What was I thinking? Oh well.
I know wot u mean.
I so wish I would of took photos of seedley
@@MarkFromSalfordUK Decent Chinese chippy on Seedley Road (or was) and a Launderette I used to use!
I'm sure mum lived near those dock gates.

The flats to the right ,Everard house and the globe just peeking out ,the boys are on the croft as we knew it ,had many bonfires.adventure playground for a time was always dirty I lived at 59 from 71-78 good times.
Yes, but we are enriched now - diversity and multiculture ... just what Salford badly needed.
